I think the key is that they had two shots. No booster. My guess is that they probably got their second shot over 6 months ago and needed the booster. Even with Omicron, the booster is 70-75% effective against infection... which is lower than the 90-95% that was seen with earlier strains.Kuhlindahr said:Meanwhile, a buddy's brother, along with wife, and entire family, all who have had two shots, are all in the hospital, two in the ICU.
There's over 200 vaccines that were developed and tested.Which countries have their own covid vaccines? The U.S. has three (I believe), England has one, China has one, and I think that Russia has one. Do India and Israel have their own covid vaccines? Do other European nations have their own, or the European Union? Who else?
The two that have become dominant in the Western countries are the mRNA vaccines Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna. They are the most effective but they also require low temperature refrigeration which means that they can't be used in areas without electricity or without access to special refrigeration units.
The US approved a 3rd option- a viral vector vaccine from Johnson and Johnson (Janssen). It was used early in 2021 but is being replaced by the mRNA vaccines. A fourth option will probably be approved in the US- Novavax which is an injection of the spike protein.
The US stockpiled AstraZeneca/Oxford but did not approve it for use in the US. Canada and Europe used AstraZeneca early in 2021 but it has also been replaced by mRNA vaccines in those countries.
China developed two vaccines - Sinovac (CoronaVac) and Sinopharm.
