The Australian cases went from 1,071 cases on Sunday to 1,682 cases today- 611 cases in one day. We knew from the low death count that it was still early in the game, even though Australia reported their first 4 cases on 25-Jan-2020- six days after the US reported its first case. It's doubtful that this has a direct connection to the US cases. Australia's cases have been brewing in the background for a while.

There were 200,000 revelers at Mardi Gras in Sydney at the end of February. NSW kept the beaches open until this weekend. New Orleans and the state of Louisiana has one of the fastest growing case rates at the moment, probably attributable to their Mardi Gras crowds, so keep your eyes on Sydney.

A sobering statistic:

We're about 83 days into 2020.

It took about 67 days for the case count to reach 100,000 worldwide. (6-Mar-2020 stats here)

It took 11 more days for it to double to 200,000 cases. (18-Mar-2020 stats here)

4 days later, we were over 300,000 cases. (22-Mar-2020 stats here)

Tomorrow- 2 days later, we're probably going to hit 400,000 cases worldwide.

This is why we want people to stay home and avoid crowds.

The number of cases is definitely levelling out in the two bigger, businer areas: 10.575 cases in Madrid, 7.864 in Catalonia.

But the baffling fact remains the death rate, as baffling as the one in Germany, but for opposite reasons: 1.263 in Madrid, 339 in Catalonia, with the sharpest increase rate in infection and mortality in any global city, passing for an average of around 100 to 200 dead every 24h. I would not discard yet any "levelling out" in that respect, given the progression during the past days in both areas, but the outbreak in Madrid remains shocking anyway.

I am still bracing for the worst in big American cities, particularly NYC, according to several news sources, and even in the UK or France.

I haven't been able to find Canada's stats on how many tests they have done and what their positive result ratio has been. I also haven't seen metro breakdowns for Canada - I would be interested in those.

My assumption is that the Alberta numbers were high because of the oil industry and international workers around the Edmonton area.

British Columbia got hit early because of their proximity to the outbreak in the Seattle-Tacoma area.

I've been scratching my head at Canada's numbers, particularly Toronto and Montreal because these cities are close to the US border and have substantial population density. In spite of the propaganda about border closures being for the purpose of protecting the US, it's apparent from the stats that closing the border to non-essential traffic benefits Canada more than it does the US at this point.

As of March 16th, we had tested over 60,000 people and were doing quite well. As of yesterday, one of the reasons why Alberta's cases are as high as they are is because of testing.

As of March 20 Alberta had conducted 20,320 COVID-19 tests or 461 per 100,000 people. Ontario’s rate was 95 per 100,000 people, Quebec’s 91, according to statistics compiled by CBC Calgary reporter Robson Fletcher using data from provincial health authorities and Statistics Canada.

Not unsurprisingly, the highest concentration of cases is in the urban areas where people had been in closer contact with one another.

I would say that Canadians and specifically Ontarians may have taken this all more seriously at the outset because of our experience during SARS.

And it may have been beneficial that because of our winter this year, that many people have already been socially distanced from one another. But we're all waiting for the shoe to drop this week as we go into what will hopefully be the peak of new cases.

Chloroquine Phosphate is an anti-protozoal. Fish also get protozoa infections, so to treat it there are tablets that you can add to the tank to help kill the organism infecting the fish.

There's a loophole in the US drug laws that allows dispensing of "veterinarian grade" drugs without a prescription. You can go to a pet store and buy antibiotics for your dog with no prescription, for example. EBay is running adds selling aquarium Chloroquine Phosphate and people are buying it. There's already two people in the US who have gotten ill after taking it- one died and the other is in critical care.

Trump kept saying it was basically pretty much a cure," the woman whose husband died told NBC.

London Underground commuters have been warned that if they do not stop packing into trains more people will die from coronavirus.

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan issued the alert after photos showed crowds in Tube carriages for a second morning running.

Mr Khan insisted the network was running for essential workers only.
