Here's the numbers:

South Dakota Weekly New Cases:
  • 24-Jul: 196
  • 31-Jul: 265
  • 07-Aug: 374 <Sturgis rally starts 6-Aug and ends 15-Aug
  • 14-Aug: 1,150
  • 21-Aug: 1,548
  • 28-Aug: 2,479

In New Zealand, things are looking promising for stamping out covid 19 again. Last 4 days case numbers have been 83, 84, 53 and today 48. We are in the strictest ever lockdown with everyone confined to their house except for grocery shopping, where you have to wear a mask (strictly enforced). So far it's working. Then back to covid free living again, for the meantime. While lockdown is in place and people adhere to it, there can be no spread. Vaccinated are now 53% at least 1 jab, 28% 2 jabs.

How soon are they going to start accepting applications for immigration? I may want to relocate.

You'd be welcome Kara.
Some more stats. Even from this small outbreak we have 35 in hospital and 8 sufferers in Intensive Care Units. 2 are ventilated. 6 babies under 1 tested positive, which is something new it seems with Delta.

Something new with Delta it seems. This is really horrifying. Another reason pregnant women should be vaccinated.

Doctors confirm COVID is now infecting women’s placentas....

Sehn says the coronavirus knocks out what is basically the root system connecting the baby to the mom. The baby can’t live inside the mom and must come out. Sehn says this finding has only become evident in the last few weeks to months.

If the numbers I saw are correct, there were no deaths, fortunately.

One thing that worries me about 35 hospitalizations- that would be a very high hospitalization percentage, given the new case numbers. By my calculations, there were 577 new cases in New Zealand in the past 6 weeks. Either the hospitalization percentage is >5% or there's a group of people who were infected who never got diagnosed.

In the US, we're seeing infants coming in with COVID-19. In some cases, newborns who get discharged with their mothers and come back to the emergency room within a week or two with COVID-19. That's something we did not see last year. It also makes it more important that vaccines become available for young children. The current trials are testing vaccination for children 2 and older. Although that may not directly benefit infants, it would remove one possible source of infection in the home: siblings.

And, there's another good reason: because we can't immunize infants, the only protection that newborns may have are antibodies that they acquire from their mother.

COVID-19 antibodies transmit from moms to babies during pregnancy [CIDRAP - Jan, 2021]
SARS-CoV-2 antibodies transferred across the placenta in 87% of pregnant women who had COVID-19 at some point, suggesting that newborns of seropositive mothers may have some protection against the novel coronavirus at birth, according to a study today in JAMA Pediatrics. However, a second, unpublished study suggests that the maternal-infant antibody transfer is lower than expected.

^ They never had any problem with GM foods, let alone with pesticides or industrial farming in general; they never even had any problem with vaccines before, like they didn't with electricity and electromagnetic waves at home, yet now they are fearing... :rotflmao:

Just to be clear- the story is about infections with the virus- SARS-CoV-2... not vaccines. The vaccines have proven to be safe and very important in pregnant women. There have been multiple studies that indicate that pregnant women are at higher risk of complications from COVID-19 illness, including death. There are hundreds of cases of pregnant women getting COVID-19 and either having a miscarriage or dying from the COVID-19 infection.

Why does anyone think that it's safer to get COVID-19 than to get the vaccine?

It's becoming apparent that there's something wrong with the education system if high school graduates are getting through biology class without understanding that a virus makes copies of itself by inserting DNA or RNA into human cells, killing the cells in the process.

Coronaviruses are enteric viruses (infections of the gastrointestinal system) in bats. In humans, it produces a respiratory illness but we've been aware that it also affects the circulatory system, the heart, the intestines and other organs. And while most people only shed virus for 10-15 days after they are infected, studies indicate that there's a percentage of people who get COVID-19 infections who continue shedding virus for weeks, perhaps months after they recover.

The placenta is a highly vascular organ. It makes logical sense than the placenta would be affected by a SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Case Report: Prolonged Viral Shedding in Six COVID-19 Patients [ASTHM]
Recent studies showed that patients could asymptomatically shed SARS-CoV-2 for weeks. Herein, we report six cases of COVID-19 who showed persistent positive SARS-CoV-2 on repeated RT-PCR nasopharyngeal swab testing for varying durations, reaching 9 weeks after the initial diagnosis.

^My Doc and I were having a chat about this this morning. Even in Ontariostan, where we are close to 68% double vaxxed, he tells me that there are 'less informed' patients in his roster that just are immovable...and we agreed that given our history of vax adoption...this was inexplicable...except that it has been politicized and exploited by those who mean us harm.

We also understand that the rural population may be be slow in the uptake because they think they are not in contact with the 'spreaders.

God. Help. Us.

At 69.5% of double-dosers in Spain today, attaining the vaunted, long-time obsolete 70% mark in a couple of days, the goal now is not even attaining the impossible 90% (even allowing for Spaniards being generally less barbarian in relation to vaccination), but implementing "functional control" of the spreading of the disease: treating it like the flu, for which there is no herd immunity either.

^^ See...like I keep saying. The one common theme among all of them is "You can't tell me what to do". They'd rather die than take advice from someone else and protect themselves. FreeDumb is a simply a justification for mindless, stubborn, obstinacy. They are willfully brainwashed beyond help and hope. It's very sad but they cannot be persuaded to even take the simplest step of self-care; much less care about anyone around them. You see how the knew on their death bed they should have gotten the vaccine? They knew, but they purposefully refused it to get vaccinated all because of some pigheaded libertarian fixation - "You can't tell me what to do".

The cases before 21 August were cases caught at the border. Anyone that flies into NZ have to spend 2 weeks in a quarantine hotel or they are kept there until they test negative.
I think there is a higher than expected hospitalization rate because a large number in this outbreak (over 300) are Polynesian due to a superspreader event at a church and, on average, this group tend to have weight issues more often. The other thing is that there is a high % of younger people in hospital, probably because the older age groups have mostly already had at least one jab.

^ The hospitalizations of the last wave in Spain were of people between 30 and 60 with no, or just one, dose: where do you get the idea that one dose protects your health against the Delta? I didn't know about that.
