The iphone does not have 'lots' of features that regular phones don't. Outside of it being able to sync and do things with other Apple products and the amount of space with it, and the rest of it is just basically your basic phone.
The non replaceable battery life is a horrible idea and definitely isn't something that's going to last long during the day if you're going to use every single little gadget on it constantly.
but hey, if you really want to spend 500-600$ bucks on something like this, at least I can say it's not my money.

Oh, c'mon, you've got to be kidding. The iPhone is smaller in most dimensions than my Palm Tungsten E2, which isn't even a phone or iPod.
How many phones have an
enormous touchscreen?
How many phones can surf the
real web without some cut-down featureless browser?
How many phones have voicemail that allows
you to choose which order you want to hear them in?
How many phones have huge, dedicated, easy to hit buttons that clearly say what the function is (merge calls, dial, hang up, play music, send e-mail, etc. etc.)? (Most phones don't because they use physical lumpy buttons that must serve multiple purposes)
How many phones can play YouTube videos and sync with your iTunes audio & video library, keeping track of ratings and albums and play counts? And let you scroll through your albums with the flick of a finger?
How many phones have all of the above? None, other than iPhone.
Have you even looked at the Apple web site?
Oh, and in my case, anyway, I've got an iPod adapter for my car stereo that also charges it. So it gets charged half an hour or more on the way to work, and the same on the way back. So I won't have to carry cords or chargers around, and it will always be fresh and ready and charged, and I can listen to my iTunes collection while it's charging.
How cool is that?!
