51st Grammys Thread (Predictions, Bitching, Etc)

Re: 51st Grammys Thread (Predictions, Bitching, Et

Judging on how the Grammys give out awards I dont think they'd be aware of what a dick was if Katy Perry slapped 'em in the face with one. They are totally oblivious. Id like to know how that garbage by Robert Plant won these awards when it never gets played on the radio. I dont listen to the radio much but Im aware enough to know that Ive never heard any of this shit from his Album with Allison Krauss. The way they give out awards is getting old and its time to try something else or just scrap these awards altogether and let them die.

The Grammys are voted by stuffy old white men, that's why country/folksy albums (Brother Where Art Thou, Alison Krauss/Robert Plant) continually get the most love, and that's why the "Best Rap" nominations are always given to household rappers like Lil Wayne, it's the only rapper they know. I flatlined at him winning 3 Grammys. Once again the Grammys loses credibility. Apparently they're giving it to any rapper who makes an "okay" album just because his previous ones were atrocious, he finally made one that didn't suck....that much.

On a side note, kudos to my girl Alison and her 25(?) awards. I thought it was 21 or 25, but that was BEFORE her wins tonight.

Re: 51st Grammys Thread (Predictions, Bitching, Et

Alison Kraus is a wonderful artist but I'm sorry, Raising Sand is as dull as that Ray Charles album that won a few years ago. Compared to it, every other Album of the Year nominee (except Ne-Yo) was more deserving.

Yes, even Lil Wayne.

I didn't really enjoy the album except for a few tracks. I wasn't hot about ANY of the Best Album nominees, then again the list of noms read exactly like I thought it would.

CBS ran a segment on Coldplay right before the Grammys and it made me wanna vomit, they act like those guys have reinvented the wheel or something. Atleast they seem to be aware of their limitations and don't claim to be any real credit to rock music.

Re: 51st Grammys Thread (Predictions, Bitching, Et

and tell me why Neyo was nominated for Album of the year? talk about an odd one out..that album had no place in that category...

Im so glad Blink 182 are recording a new album. that was the only highlight for me...

Do you mean Green Day? I didn't see Blink at all and I had the show on for the entire 3 1/2 hours.

I'm on the west coast and am short on time, so forgive me if this has been covered previously in the thread.

What the HELL was that rap "performance"?! Holy shit...I've never seen such an abomination of a "live performance" in my short 19 years of life. Completely obscuring your mouth with the microphone while waving your arms in the air, pretending to rap the VOCAL SAMPLES live. I'm looking at you and your moo-cow inspired get up, M.I.A.

I suspect one of two things:

1. Her mic was off because of her pregnancy, everybody else's mic was on. Jumping around in your third trimester can't be too much fun, let alone actually vocalising.

2. They (possibly) didn't have time to throw together a proper performance because her performance was an impromptu replacement for Rihanna and Chris Brown's. I know that JT/Al Green was one transposition, but nobody mentioned the other.

Nik, you are looking for uptempo songs on some people albums and that's just not going to happen. Sometimes slow is better with some songs and albums.

Re: 51st Grammys Thread (Predictions, Bitching, Et

It doesn't count if the "stuff" is crap. Which it is. I'm sorry but Taylor Swift is just godawful! She's one of the most horrible things I've ever seen/heard.

No, Nik! I'm usually on the same page as you but Taylor is great. Unlike the JBs, Miley and the other teens, she's actually displaying talent as a writer (even if some of it is corny) which can improve over time and maturity. She also plays guitar and while her voice is mediocre, I think she's better than the likes of Miley, JBs, Rihanna, etc. I think out of all the teen acts out there, she stands out as one who will have a successful career. Okay, I'm done.

When I say M.I.A. on stage tonight I was like "That heifer about to about break her own water and placenta and all will come out on that stage." She needs to sit her ass down somewhere.

Re: 51st Grammys Thread (Predictions, Bitching, Et

What are you talking about? Slow is fine if it's done well. But Raising Sand is just DULL. There's a difference. I thought Norah Jones third album Not Too Late was pretty terrific and that's definitely "slow." And Aimee Mann is one of my favorite artists of all time.

Oh and btw, you'll be happy to know I finally listened to Alicia Keys As I Am and I loved it. :D It's her best album to date and while it's not a masterpiece, it's the one that convinces me she may have a masterpiece in her in the near future.

Alright, I accept your argument. However, some of the albums that you have trashed in the past left me like "WTF?" he must not be a slow song person.

Oh, I'm glad you did enjoy As I Am I bought the whole thing off Rhapsody last year and it is a great lazy Saturday morning or early afternoon album from beginning to end.

Ugh, I hate music snobs.

Anyway, the Grammy ratings were shockingly up 10%. So they must have done something right in that mess.

So people who have opinions and standards are snobs? I'd gladly wear the snob title rather than to be a robot/puppet for the embarrassing modern music landscape. Some of us are content settling for red beans and rice, others want a REAL meal that will stick to the bones.

I'm sure Jennifer's return had something to do with that, their ratings have been faltering in recent years. Also, people turn to forums of entertainment like this during hard times as an escape, so it makes sense that more people are tuning in. More people are staying home so more tv sets are likely to be turned on.

Re: 51st Grammys Thread (Predictions, Bitching, Et

^^ LOL. Beyonce is one of my favorite pop artists. I doubt that makes me a "snob." But Blink 182 is a mediocre band and Taylor Swift is just -- I repeat -- GODAWFUL.

As for their ratings, maybe a lot of people just turned in to see if Coldplay would be served with court papers live?

Guess thats a no for coming to DE and helping me break in my new Apartment huh Nik:cry: really thou you can blame me for trying:wave:

Blink 182 aren't too bad for what they do. Taylor Swift I have never heard of before the Grammys and I can't say I was impressed with her or Miley.

It doesn't have anything to do with having a opinion. My problem comes when you (the general you) start trying to make others feel stupid for what music they like. I knew a guy in high school that liked really really really indie stuff. And he would always make comments about how cool his music was and how much more mature it was was, yaddah yaddah. The thing is, I didn't like his crap at all, so I didn't give a damn what he said. He always struck me as liking certain stuff because nobody else knew about it...real mature. The same can be said for some movie lovers. It's personal opinion, much like politics or philosophy, albeit on a much lower level.

The escape thing sounds like it would make sense, but I was surprised in the rise because most other award shows have been down. So I guess the cross-genre/cross-generational performances really helped.

I agree, people are entitled to their preferences. I don't think it's so much about making people feel stupid as it is recognizing the simplicity of the music industry which is grossly oversaturated with formulaic music.

It doesn't make someone inferior to listen to it, but it's not fair to expect someone to sugarcoat their opinion about the actual music.

That's actually part of the reason I watch the Grammys, I LOVE seeing the new artist/legend pairings, and I like the cross-genre pairings. For the most part, performers seem to step their game up when they do the Grammys, understandably so. To me, one good performance makes it well-worth 3 1/2 hours of drivel, though that concept is receding with the surgence of youtube.

If I were the programmer I would shut that shit down, there are some awesome and painfully obvious pairings that they haven't done yet, the AMA's smashed the Grammys having Pink sing harmony with Sarah Macachacalacan.

Re: 51st Grammys Thread (Predictions, Bitching, Et

I thought it was a rather blah show. I'm really pissed Leona didn't win anything but at the same time, I'm really glad for Duffy and Adele. I think they are both amazingly talented.

Lil Wayne winning anything pisses me off. I would have loved to see TI or Lupe Fiasco win anything that jerkoff won.

I like Allison Kraus but that song was blah. I expected her wins though. The Grammy people love the obscure shit.

Glad to see J-Hud win a Grammy. It was the same feeling that I had when Kelly and Carrie won their first ones. Here are three people that I voted so hard for finally getting industry cred. Now if we can only find a way to get Tasia one!!

Re: 51st Grammys Thread (Predictions, Bitching, Et

If she didn't get Best R&B Vocal for Free Yourself, Baby Mama, Hood Boy, When I See You, Let Me Put You Up On Game, or Best Gospel for Endow Me then she might have to sleep with somebody cuz those were top-notch vocals.
