I seriously don't know what this lesbian was thinking she'd accomplish by heckling Michelle Obama, the wife of a democratically elected politician in a democracy. (The president doesn't make the laws of the country, woman.) But, she interrupts her...for what?

She should be heckling people her age and up. They're the last holdouts for marriage and social equality in society.

Saxby Chambliss, a Georgian politician, recently told a reporter from Politico that he didn't give a shit about them, with "them" being gay people. Where was she then? Michelle Obama is a private citizen. Chambliss, unfortunately for gays in Georgia, is an elected politician.

Selective outrage here. And it accomplishes nothing.

Are gay people this desperate that we don't challenge the bigots, but instead harass the people on the right side?

Don't bite the hand that feeds you.

More of your predictable age discrimination suggesting that marriage and social inequality is determined by a number on a birth certificate?

Heckling public speakers is a right in all democratic societies. It would be a disaster for democracy were that right extinguished.

Had I been present at that event I would not have heckled Mrs. Obama.

Again, heckling anyone gets you no where, you just get bad press and made to look like unstable. She can't "make" the POTUS do anything and pissing her off won't get her to talk to him about it, lol.

I've been hearing about it all day and didn't know til this that it was a Lesbian that did it.
I think Michelle handled it quite well.
I would love to see the video of it. To see how the crowd reacted.

So what?

I'm sure that Jack Springer and Benvolio would heckle Obama. At the very least. Just because the woman was a rug muncher doesn't mean dick.

One thing that some in the Gay Community CONTINUE to forget is that not ALL LGBT Activists are Obama supporters. Some Gay Activists don't care what The President has said & done in favor of Gay Rights. The Activist had every right to Protest, but the 1st lady doesnt have to stand their and be shouted down disrespectfully...No one has to take yelling and screaming at an engagement like that...I don't blame Mrs. Obama for threatening to leave...

Heckling is a Right but you don't have the Right to do it on Private Property without an invite...

How come NOBODY caught this on Video?...Not ONE News Network showed footage of the event..Were the Cameras kept out of the Fundraiser by Obama's staff?

Found such actions lack of respect towards the first lady. Look what has been accomplished in the gay community under Obama.

Mr. Canada, you don't know me at all.

I'd never heckle a US President. If given the opportunity I would ask him difficult questions.

However, I can you see rolling over on your back, peeing like a little puppy if you had the chance to meet Mr. Obama.

Michelle has a temper.

“Listen to me or you can take the mic, but I’m leaving. You all decide. You have one choice.”

MM, surely you've been paying attention to how the Administration treats the press. They have a pool reporter who is allowed limited access to an event like this - video is rarely if ever allowed. The press pool are closely watched and escorted out after the Administration official talks.

Here's an audio of the confrontation. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs...onts-protester-threatens-to-leave-fundraiser/

Back in 2011 pool reporters were locked in a storage closet during a Biden fundraiser.

You're missing the point here: this woman's (Ellen) issue is with another woman, a private citizen (Michelle Obama), that is actually in favor of her being a full-fledged American citizen, while she totally ignores people like her (read: older Americans) who are the LAST group of people to still hold bigoted beliefs against gays and lesbians. My message to her is to look at her peers first before she gets impatient with other people, especially when these other people aren't standing against gay rights.

This makes no sense. If she wants to heckle people, heckle bigots.

They pretty much were forced to toss the lesbian out of the event, which was probably well deserved. I understand Ellen's frustration, but if she's into heckling and protesting, please heckle the protest the bigots please.

I've learn to not talk to trolls that are nationalistic. Said person comes to threads to talk about and rip the US which is fine. But the one time you mention something about a country needing to toss a monarchy, which shouldn't be controversial for a so called "progressive" (and in 2012 too), he gets his panties wet and starts PMSing.

This bitch makes me sick to be honest---I know that the Democratic party has a wide range of voices unlike the zig Heil party--but do the Obamas need this shit with all the bullshit that the lunatic right throws at them every second of every day? I think not.

Don't get me wrong, I understand this woman's frustration, but towards an ally?

And I'm sincerely sympathetic to older gay men and women as they had to deal with these people. But c'mon...Michelle Obama? Really?

There's a certain way to behave at public events, and yelling at someone while they are speaking is not that. It doesn't matter if the speaker is a Democrat, Republican, or whatever - you sit your ass down, and behave like an adult. Then afterwards, you can say your peace during the Q & A session (if there is one), or approach the speaker in an adult manner and ask them your question respectfully. All this heckler did is make herself look like a fool and hurt the gay rights cause. Michelle doesn't write policy, and to assume that screaming at her is going to spur Obama to do something is completely asinine. MLK didn't advance the civil rights cause by hollering at Jackie Kennedy, now did he?

Obama said he would sign an executive order, banning federal contractors from discriminating on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.

He has not done so.

That is Ellen Sturz's complaint.

It is unfair to target the first lady for the failings of her husband. She is, after all, not a legislator and has no authority to do anything at all about gay rights.

But, she is an obvious representative of her husband, and needs to expect to be heckled, so long as he continues to ignore our rights.

Executive Orders can be easily repealed by the next President, so it's a temporary move at best. Obama is good for playing the long game: Repealing DADT took a while, but he did it, and reversing the repeal is next to impossible now. ENDA is the better and more permanent route.

Some people need to learn some goddamn patience. (and tact - you heckle those that refuse to hear your message, not allies willing to hear you out if you don't act like a fucking dumbass. When you scream at someone in the middle of their speech, don't be surprised if they take you to task for your asshattery.)
