Human masses ARE a force of nature. A message board is as good an example of it as any.
Ignoring that plain and relevant fact can be called stupidity or whatever name-callers want. History makes sense as it is being made and even foreseen: if you just "study" it, which is by the way always a partial and partisan study, whether you want it or not, it will be deemed as something from the past, that's why economical crisis and wars and political mistakes keep being repeated.
I will repeat it and I will be ignored again: it's not about foreseeing desasters, nor "being prepared" to face them: it's about how you are able and DO deal with whatever comes along.

If your idea of "being prepared" is merely or basically stockpiling, you will need more luck than whatever shit you can stock... now if your idea of it is more like being aware of your own condition in the environment around you, and of your own ability to face whatever happens, then you got it.
This is not about survivalism: a survivalist thinks of prevailing over adversity with a sense of superiority over everything and everyone, and it's not about oversmarting fate or adversity or whatever you may call it... I am talking about being more than a clueless animal who gets overpowered by the conditions around, about bringing all the shit we are used to hear and repeat about dignity and freedom and blahblah even when you get physically defeated: I am merely talking about awareness, and therefore, furthermore, ability to the highest degree possibly attainable.

That would depend of the location of the epicentre: Wall Street, the Middle East or even North Korea could very well do the job.

I do have one observation.

It would appear that the biggest BULL fight in Barcelona is not held in the

You should look up the Cascadia fault line. Oregon is over due. They have been having seminars all over the state of Oregon trying to get people prepared for what will likely be just like Japan.

LIke others have said, where the epicenter of an earthquake is located will also have a lot to do with how much damage and death will result.
One can only people will be prepared in the U.S. for such an earthquake.

Well, seeing how Katrina was handled, we would pretty much be on our own. Our government has prepared plans for various disasters, but no where near as well as Japan has. Part of it also has to do with the willingness of the governor of what ever the state the disaster happened in to have the federal government come in and help.

It was so sad. I used to live over in Japan. I still have friends there. They're all okay, thank god. I'm going to return to Japan this May to volunteer and help rebuild. Till then, I'll just keep them in my thoughts and continue donating. <3
