He denies that he ever said HIV patients should ne quarentined or locked up, and does not retract what he did not say. He says that he would not today say what he said before because of increased medical knowledge.

If two homos choose to marry, they have entered into a binding contract that carries with it both rights and responsibilities.

If they choose to nullify that contract, then there is the remedy of divorce which frees them to move on.

As we know, divorce is a time honoured institution and used by straight people with wild abandon.
 
BTW Ben, marriage is a civil contract. Next time you go to a wedding, listen carefully to what the priest/pastor/reverend/rabbi/imam says about the power of the state.

By attacking marriage, as it has historically been known, gays have unnecessarily increased hostility against themselves. Gays already had the right to marry and live together in all but government involvement.

Benvolio marriage has been changed countless times historically and yes some nations even in the ancient world allowed gay marriage. Gays have every bit of a right for marital protections for themselves. Again your republican friends are no different then the fools against interracial marriage who thought that the fact that they could not discriminate against non Whites violated their religious freedom.

Damn. I knew (afterwards) that I shouldn't have dumped that folder. I'll have to see if I can find the link again. It shows a list of reasons for not allowing marriage. Then asks if it's about interracial marriage or same sex marriage. The list is against interracial marriage but is almost 100% like the list against same sex marriage. The bigots dusted off the old bigotry and reused it.

My point was, that in insisting on changing the traditional definition, gays unecessarily increased the hortility against them. And it is wrong to conclude that those who disagree with the change of marriage "hate" gays.

What traditional definition? Marriage has changed dramatically through out nations and history. The idea of modern marriage that two people meet, fall in love and then marry and stay faithful to one another is a purely modern invention. The most common form of marriage in antiquity and this includes the Bible was between 1 man and as many wives, concubines and sex slaves as he could afford. Not only that but even in places such as say Greece and Rome where marriage consisted of one man and one woman the structure was completely different. It wasn't about falling in love and being faithful to one person. Literally it was about two families uniting their assets by marrying two people from both families. Many times without the two people even knowing each other. Even still men were not expected to stay faithful to their wives and regularly had sex with prostitutes, mistresses and male lovers. Now while it would be an offense for a woman to be in a relationship with someone other then her husband it was perfectly fine for her to have affairs with other Women. Sappho of Lesbos was an example of this a married woman who frequently had affairs with women. Not only that but certain places even had polyandry. Among certain areas of India it is common for one woman to marry multiple brothers from another family. Draupadi a Avatar of the Goddess Parvati married 5 brothers. Among the matriarchal Mosuo of China marriage does not exist but rather a man will come to a woman's house and have a "sweet night" with her but he is expected to leave the next morning. Any child born from this union is raised in the mother's house with father's having no right to their children. In fact the woman's brothers, uncles etc have more of a fatherly role for the child then their biological father. Some nations even did have gay marriage such as the Celts, Native Americans and certain African tribes etc. So yes traditionally before the European colonists came in gay marriage was practiced by the Native Americans. Even during America's history marriage changed. Originally marriage only consisted of one free white man and a free white woman. Slaves were not legally married and could be split up at the owner's wishes. They it changed to one man and one woman of the same race, to one man and one woman of any race and finally to two people of any race.

Also yes people against gay marriage are homophobic just as people against interracial marriage are racist.
 
Without bothering to dicuss ancient history, it remains true that by unnecessarily attacking marriage as most people understand it, gays have stirred up avoidable hostility. Doing so has set gays back a generation or more.
