Oh, but haven't you heard, Drew? Guns don't kill people. Psychotic, whacked-out, homophobic, religious zealot, right wing, Republican scumbags (just guessing in this case, but I bet I'm not far off) who use the excuse that they want guns to "protect themselves, their homes and their families" to have free access to guns kill people.

You're right. Bill Gwatney is a tragic loss.

May I add my sincerest condolences to Mr. Gwatney's family and friends for their tragic loss.

For me, I as surprised that this wasn't a bigger story than it was. I think most papers buried it somewhere in the middle of the paper, and dropped it entirely the next day.

That is not only mischaracterization, it's idiocy. I suppose all those people who rob liquor stores with guns are Republicans? I suppose car jackers are Republicans? And of course all the men and women in the armed services must also be Republicans. And of course, no Democrat owns a gun. I suppose if I want a gun to defend myself I have to be a Republican. Oh, and once I become one I can't be gay anymore because I'll be vilified on CE&P for doing so.

Way to selfishly milk a terrible tragedy!

So, I guess you stand by the call to kill "liberals". The problem is, that the right-wing laughs and looks the other way, instead of calling their people out. I don't think I have ever heard a Democratic say, we should kill the right-wingers. Though, I do wish, God would send a couple of well placed lightning bolts. Don't worry God knows I'm kidding. But it seems these right-wing nutjobs are taking the Bushies seriously. Dead serious.

That's one of the more moronic replies I've seen lately in this forum.
He didn't even comment on the "kill liberals" foolishness by Limbaugh!

BTW, Jav, you don't have to be a Republican; be what the Founding Fathers actually were: a libertarian.

The idea that because this man went nuts and shot someone means I can't protect myself is illogical. The idea that because I want to protect myself and therefore I want to kill liberals is insulting and a personal attack. And they're called "Democrats" not "Democratics," FWIW.

Precisely.
Tens of millions of Americans own guns, and never harm a living creature, let alone another human. They do, however, use firearms to defend themselves over two million times per year, and save lives some quarter of a million times.
I know a few gals who've been raped, and one who hasn't. She had a gun, so she was able to deter the threat.
With good justification, they call anti-gun politicians "pro-rape".

It is a tragedy that Mr. Gwatney is dead. It doesn't matter what his politics were. He was a man who had a right to his life. He had people that care about him and loved him.

But blaming the NRA and people who believe in all the Amendments to the Constitution, simply isn't fair. To say that conservatives simply want to kill liberals, is ludicrous.

The blame for killing Mr. Gwatney, falls squarely on the shoulders of the individual who pulled the trigger and killed him. Thankfully, the police have ensured that this individual will be unable to do so again, in the future.

Let's start blaming people for being assholes. Let's make them be responsible for their actions!

Jack !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Damn congrats on your on your new status here. I Just noticed you now hold a "Magic Wand" :)

No doubt the blame for 9/11 falls squarely on the shoulders of the hijackers also, however, that does not mean that society does not have a right and responsibility to take the necessary precautions to prevent another 9/11, even if some peoples "rights" are infringed.

Thanks to the NRA the gun manufacturers have armed every criminal in the country and now tell honest citizens to arm themselves for protection.

Fifty years ago New Yorkers were horrified at news reports of teenage gangs making ZIP guns, now thanks to the efforts of the NRA and the gun sellers they represent, the teenagers are armed with the best weapons money can buy. First you sell guns to the indians then you sell guns to the settlers to protect themselves from the indians.

The NRA has to accept responsibility for most of the gun crimes committed in the same way government and airlines would have to accept responsibility if they failed to prevent hijackings.

I suppose we are lucky that Boeing is not as amoral as the gun lobby and don't want to profit by replacing blown up airplanes.

Yes, of course it's the gun makers fault! Colonel Colt has been going door to door forcing guns on all my neighbors who didn't even want them. If only they would stop piling them on my doorstep!

And yes, the NRA keeps waking me up every Saturday and dragging me to gun shows. There I am forced to buy yet another AK-47 that I really don't need. Good gosh, I hope the government can save me from these evil people!

Let me state this clearly, so even you lefty anti-gunners can get it. The Constitutional right to keep and bear arms has been decided by the Supreme Court of the United States. I have a right to have a gun.In fact, as many guns as my little black heart so desires. And if you and your grabbing pals don't like it. Too bad!

Maybe if Mr. Gwatney, or one of the other citizens in his proximity, had decided to pack some heat, maybe he'd still be alive. Of course I defend your right to go about unarmed, should you so choose. But know you do so at your own peril! I will remain the master of my own destiny and continue to have the means readily available, to protect myself and those whom I care about.

Iman, I suppose you want MLB to accept responsibility for beatings with baseball bats, Detroit to accept responsibility for car crashes, and the Red Cross to accept responsibility for drownings and heart attacks?

You know, iman, that there never was a "gun lobby" until elitists who don't trust the people decided to wage war on the ancient individual right to keep and bear arms. The NRA wasn't formed to do political battle, but it shouldered that responsibility when, quite recently, some politicians fabricated a "collective right" interpretation quite contrary to the plain sense of the Second Amendment, and set out on a course to do to Americans the very thing that set off the Revolutionary War: deprive them of their individual arms.
All of us in the NRA would much rather go back to just safety training (at which the NRA is the best in the world), shooting competitions, and occasionally having to defend ourselves against a moron who has abandoned the basic concepts of our common humanity. We'd much rather not have to mail letters, call our Congresspeople, pay fat salaries to the likes of LaPierre, and spend time every election explaining to people all over again how they're being lied to. But as long as there are -- to be very honest -- pro-criminal politicians like Barack Obama, Chuck Schumer, and their ilk, we'll keep at it. We'll remember than even as recently as the sixties and seventies most Democrats understood that the right to keep and bear arms is an intrinsic individual right that cannot be taken away, and that even Ghandi referred to the taking away of citizens' guns as a great sin. We'll hold fast to Thomas Jefferson's comment on the Second Amendment, that " it is [the people's] right and duty to be at all times armed".

Wow, my mother who supports gun control, because of a couple of nasty experiences with a gun toting father as a child, is now "pro-rape". No wonder I gave up any support for the "right to bear arms" shortly after I started reading your posts here, Kulindahr! Perhaps by your logic, if she was raped tomorrow, she would really be just asking for it, as she wouldn't be carrying a gun.

So basically if something bad happens to you as a result of a gun toting loon and you are not carrying a gun, well, it is your own fault? Perhaps by that logic the assasin of Mr Gwatney should be released as Mr Gwatney was just asking for it, not having a weapon and all.

The body of the vermin who shot Mr. Gwatney has been released. The police, who also carry guns in this country, shot and killed this miscreant. Maybe if the police didn't carry guns, this poor dear would still be alive!

For future reference, the name of the killer is Timothy Dale Johnson. So far there hasn't been much of anything revealed about him.

^Thanks smelter, I simply didn't want to acknowledge his humanity. You're right, we really don't know what his motives were.

I honestly think he was a far right Republican who got too wasted one night and "God" or "Jesus" told him to do it.
