ABC's One Life To Live -- dying???

While I think all soap operas are fizzling out, I believe OLTL to a big gamble with killing off Phil Carey's "Asa Buchanan". I also think Y&R wanted what could have been a really good storyline once they killed off "John Abbott" but wasted the opportunity.

OLTL fans, was it a mistake to kill off Asa???
 
Heather Tom is leaving/left ONTL to go on Bold and the Beautiful as katie logan

I hated when they killed off John Abbot, mostly b/c i HATE HATE HATE Gloria
 
Heather Tom belongs back on Y&R - I really don't like Amelia Heinle.
I think killing John, Asa and Alan (GH) were huge mistakes.

As for Gloria, I think it would have been more fun to have the Abbott household lively with her, Jack, Ashley, John and Mamie.

Lynn Latham is destroying Y&R piece by piece. Killing John , getting rid of Ashley, that dreadful "Nazi reliquary" story....Bill Bell must be spinning in his grave.
 
i dont think the show had a choice carey wanted a contract the show didnt want to give him one so.......when is gloria gonna pay for what she did. it is so frustrating

Asa is a blow to the show...Yes, Judith Light was awesome, but then so where ABC soaps -- all five of them -- even Edge of Night....it's a shame that daytime tv is sooooooo bad. Scrapple is correct -- Lynn Latham is responsible for some of the poorer ratings Knot's Landing suffered. Yes, Bill Bell is spinning right now. They need Kay Alden back NOW!!!

True. Carey did not want to be bumped to recurring -- something I thought would have been a mistake given the absolutely horrible characters that now infest OLTL. The glory years are just about over. I can only wonder what Erika Slezak must think.

The soap industry is dying.. Ratings have been falling since the late 90s, and they are making less money. They practically have budget cuts every single year. Eventually I wouldn't be surprise if ABC drops one of their soap shows, and just broadcast two. Maybe even cut one of them to 30 minutes, and just have a 90 minute block.

Starting this fall NBC will only have one soap.. Call me crazy, but they may just drop Days of our lives in a couple of years. The only reason they canceled Passions is due to them actually OWNING the show, and they weren't making any money off the show. If they owned Day of Our Lives.. it would have been dropped along with Passions.

I have no idea what CBS will do, but its the only network that broadcasts a soap in HD(Young and the Restless). General Hospital was suppose to be the first soap on ABC to go HD a year ago, but I guess due to budget cuts they decided not to even bother with it.

Hell.. these soap operas can't even keep a damn head writer for a freaking year, before changing. I'm still pissed at the writers of One Life... for dropping the Evangeline/Todd storyline. They really dropped the ball on that one(even the guy who plays Todd was pissed). I know that there were issues with the lady who plays Evangline contract... but she's a terrific actress, and I would have kept her.

I can't imagine how they will do that? The old ladies of the shows will have to be let go (Erica,Dorian,Vicki) Than you have the mid 40's cast who have been on for 10 to 20 years and than the young cast. the only thing I could see happening is the shows would take turns every other day. What a mess to figure that out!
 
The Young and the Restless has really gone downhill, I gave up when they brought back Kevin's psycho girlfriend, Jana, and her annoying accent that comes and goes. There are still hot guys on the show, Adrien, Michael Baldwin, and his hot little brother Kevin, but Daniel has overstayed his welcome, his bedhed hair and limited acting talent are so tired. While we're at it, why not do something to really shake up the show, like ATWT, my new soap addiction, and run a gay story line with two hot guys. It's also time to pull the plug on the entire Winters family,without Drew who walked last spring, they are all so boring, get rid of them and bring in some new blood. Bill Bell would be so sad to see this once great soap gone so far off course...

Another loyal Y & R fan letting go...
 
While Jana's accent is fake...the actress portraying her IS british and has a British accent but it was decided that Jana is a different class and therefore has a different accent.

I like her,...now that Sheila's dead Jana could fill that role for the younger generation.

I HATE HATE HATE the new colleen, She's not attractive her Aussie accent slips in too much and the old Colleen was just suddenly let go with no warning to fans or the actress. so what if she was only there a year she MADE that role.

What I hate on Y&R is the CONSTANT court drama and its ALWAYS Phyllis...lay off of Phyllis...Brad killed like 4 people, made illegal real estate deals, cheated on his wife, and has been lying about his identity!!! Gloria is responsible for one woman's death, Jack did a dirty business deal...there are TONS of other things to explore and they just dont follow through.

Y&R and Bold and the Beautiful have been consistently at the top of ratings they don't seem to be going anywhere but CBS had this weird Neilson questionaire on cbs.com/daytime about B&B and I think there are going to be quite a few people cut from the show.


btw I like Ameilia as Victoria..she's prettier and I like her and JT (who are married and really expecting a baby in real life)
 
There have been crossovers between All My Children/One Life To Live.. So they are basically in the same "world".

These two would be the easiest to merge together, and just change the name.
 
The actress that plays Dorian on OLTL was on AMC as Christine and was married to one of the Martin boys. I think his name was Jeff. I used to watch that show all the time but now only see it a few times a year. I also watched OLTL back when Judith Light was on and she was the best thing in daytime at that moment.
 
Yeah Bradlee she played Karen Wallick. She was married to Dr. Larry Wallick who is Vicky,s brother. Not sure if he is even on the show anymore since I havent seen it in so long.
