Did anyone expect anything different from "community organizers"?

ACORN is the plague and this Washington will never do anything about it other than throw more money into the swamp.

That's not worse. ACORN stands to gain by 8.5 Billion Dollars in Stimulus money from tax payers across this nation, and no investigation has be made by the Democratic Congress into the organization. Indictments have come down in 14 states for voter fraud and even Charlie Rangel says that an investigation has be squashed by powers from above. So much for community organization. And they are going to be involved in the 2010 US Census? So much for your transparency, Mr. President.

^ Could be worse. I mean, there's a Republican senator who USED prostitutes and he's still in office. Oh! That's right! The extremist right protects their own and doesn't see a problem with prostitution. Or fiddle-faddling with young pages, certainly not when it's a Republikook doing the texting and screwing.

Alfie - don't forget the Congressman from Massachusetts who unwittingly had a brothel running out of his basement.

Also . . . the ACORN office in DC . . . .

I know it's only two ACORN offices . . . . but do you see a trend?

So a bunch of people with an agenda of PUNKing the ACORN people walked in and made up the most outrageous lies about owning sex slaves, and being a 'ho and her pimp? :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

I probably would have told them to start their own cruise line called the Amadeus.

I think you mean Amistad...

Amadeus would be Mozart...

Are you serious? Vanman, have you ever heard of Jack Abramoff? You're actually worried more about two knuckleheads Acorn hired, as opposed to a scandal that reached deep into the Republican party, sent a Republican congressman to jail for 30 months, resulted in the resignation of Tom "Dancing with the Stars" Delay? Please.

What's all the ruckus?

Organizations like that depend on donations, right? Well, donations aren't a dependable source of income; there are good times and bad times.

So, for the bad times, you gotta have a little business on the side!

so if i understand the 85 correctly

what ACORN is doing is not a problem

just so i understand ...................

I've seen some of the video and I am frankly rather disgusted by it.

I still believe that this thread is a partisan hackjob, but that does not excuse the people who did this.

You believe that because you think in terms of us versus them rather than right and wrong.

ACORN has been doing smarmy things for a long time and people like McCaskill and Obama who used them knew it, but it didn't matter to them because smarmy is fine if it gets you what you want.

People who believe the ends justify the means only use that as an excuse to do the wrong thing.

Why, I bet Obama and McCaskill knew Acorn was promoting child prostitution. I bet that's how they funded their campaigns. I think Obama and McCaskill would promote murder, rape and genocide to achieve their aims. There is nothing they wouldn't do.

The reason people with integrity don't become involved with the ACORNs of the world is because smarmy people do smarmy things and one thing you can count on is that what you know about them that's smarmy is not the worst of their smarm.

As Oprah Winfrey is fond of saying, when people show you who they are believe them.

This is simply the rankest form of hypocrisy I have seen in a long time. Acorn is a large organization stretching over many states, with thousands of members and employees. Yet the government is going to sever a relationship based on two knucklehead employees. Ridiculous. People are up in arms because Acorn represents the interests of poor people and minorities against the powerful and wealthy. They're an easy target.

Just look at the unbelievable crimes corporations commit, and they are still in business. Let's start with the war profiteering by Halliburton. Or Coca-cola and its involvement with the murder of trade unionists in Columbia. How about Blackwater and its murder of civilians in Iraq. American corporations have been involved for decades in the overthrow of democratically elected governments. How about the corporations that knowingly dump toxic wastes all over the land. Poultry processing companies that lock exit doors, causing deaths when fire breaks out. No one is clamoring to have the government sever ties with these groups.

The fact is that Democrats and Republicans alike take campaign donations from corporations that are engaged in crimes large and small. And Nick, before you condemn Acorn and those who were affiliated with them, remember that your heroine, Hillary Rodham Clinton served on the board of directors of Walmart, one of the most disgusting corporations of them all.

So please, everyone who wants to jump on the anti-Acorn bandwagon, spare me your self-righteousness and hypocrisy.

If Republicans are 'tho Up 'Thet about prostitution, why do they have a sitting US Senator who used the services of a high-price prostitution ring? Right wing Republican Sen. David Vitter cheated on his wife repeatedly with a whore -- he paid for sex. So, why didn't the 'then-tha-tive anti-prostitutionists throw Vitter's sorry ass out of the GOP? Oh! That's right, he's one of them!

The rank, cheap, tawdry hypocrites of the GOP should decide, once and for all, if they are pro-prostitution and pro-adultery, and act accordingly - this constant whip-sawing is manic and laughable.

I call on every gay Republican on this forum to condemn Vitter and to demand he resign!

C'mon, vanman, you posted on this thread, condemn the hypocritical GOP! C'mon, lurchinurchin and chance1, call out your party for its hypocrisy!

Juxtapixel and NedNickerson, show some spine -- condemn Vitter, because YOU posted on this thread, too.

Jack Sprnger, where is your outrage over the prostitute-paying, adulterous US Senator, Republican David Vitter? Where is your outrage NOW?

I expect to head ZERO, NOTHING for ANY of the people I listed above, because THAT is how the Republicans work. It is cowardly and it is SOP with you guys.

Alfie - Vitter is an ass. If I lived in Louisiana, there is no way I would vote for him. I'm doing my part in 2010 and 2012 -- I'm not voting for any incumbents. I'm not a fan of prostitution, adultery, or running a brothel.

Let's get rid of all of them!!! How's that Alfie?

This is different. We're talking about an organization that was involved extensively in recent elections, and was going to be involved in data collection in the 2010 census. (which will affect how votes in the house are re-apportioned) When you're talking about the very foundation of our democratic republic, ANY impropriety, even at a local level is unacceptable and must be dealt with in the way that the government is now dealing with it.

And this isn't just an isolated incident; Acorn is under investigation in 20 states. They've now officially lost all funding from the federal government, and will likely NEVER be involved in ANYTHING relating to the federal government from now on.

Nice try trying to pitch this as rich vs. poor. This is about an organization that was perpetuating fraud and actively engaging in activities that violate state and federal laws. This is not about rich vs. poor; this is about right and wrong, and whether we want the federal government giving money to an organization that flaunts its authority and the public trust.

Well it's up to videos in 4 cities/offices now where this took place.

Not looking good for Acorn.

Are you referring to Halliburton? I mean. let's be honest, your fauxrage sounds like you're talking about Halliburton. That's what good Americans are worried about.

If you can show me the proof that Halliburton broke the law, then I'll be more than willing to voice my outrage against them. There is proof that Acorn broke the law, and has continued to break the law.

There's a big difference between for-profit corporations that sell soft drinks and non-profit social justice organizations involved in elections or other public or civil concerns.

I think corporations like Haliburton and Blackwater, which receive funds from the government, should be scrutinized for wrongdoing and penalized if they've done wrong; believing that and believing non-profits that receive government funding should also be scrutinized and penalized if necessary is not mutually exclusive.

Acorn has been shady for a long time, it's not been a secret and that's the reason these videos are causing such a stir in Washington. They lie and they cheat, and their defenders give them a pass because they think big rich corporations lie and cheat so therefore this evens the playing field. What a smarmy defense. There are lots of non-profit social justice organizations that assist the poor and minorities and are highly respected. Southern Poverty Law Center comes immediately to mind because it was founded around the same time as Acorn and yet its reputation is solid.

There are organizations both private and public, for-profit and non-profit, that operate honestly, and those are the ones that deserve high regard.

Pentagon opens criminal probe against Halliburton.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A466-2004Feb23.html

Where have you been, Droid? Halliburton's crimes have been all over the news. The above site took me two seconds to find.

Nick, I wasn't defending any wrongdoing on the part of Acorn. I was criticizing the hypocrisy of those who want Acorn forever barred from getting government contracts, while remaining silent about those corporations that defraud the government or engage in other criminal activity, yet continue to get far more lucrative contracts from the government than Acorn ever had.

Guys the thread is about ACORN and not Haliburton.

The reason both Democrats and Republicans in the House voted to defund ACORN was because they had had to -- ACORN personnel was on video telling how to evade taxes, promote child prostitution, etc. The congressman who voted against the amendment are mostly in in districts where they will have no opposition in 2010.

They voted to keep their job.
