Well, it sounds like he meant to make the album cover that way:

"To those who found Adam Lambert’s upcoming album cover to be a tacky mash-up of twinkling fonts, outdated inspiration and retouching gone wrong, the “American Idol” runner-up wants to make one thing perfectly clear: he meant to do that.

The singer took to his Twitter account Wednesday, hoping to convince critics that the cover art represented a tongue-in-cheek tribute rather than a personal case of bad taste.

“Thank you to those who appreciate and understand that the album cover is deliberately campy,” Lambert wrote. “It's an (homage) to the past. It IS ridiculous.”

If some are still undecided about the singer’s fairly obvious intent (seriously, forget the glitter — the pore-free “glamour shot” look and frosty pink lipstick give it away), Lambert takes comfort in the fact he was at least noticed, if not understood.

Oh please. They've been saying "the 80s are making a comeback" since 1991. And aside from a few nostalgia CDs, it's never happened.

He'll have a short career... but it'll be over soon.

Well, and that's the real problem, isn't it?

Doing something "glam" and "campy" and "80s" is one thing... knock off he cover of "Rio" by Duran Duran... that would be artistic.

This is just "making a fool out of myself because it's all I've got."

I'd hope that he's not gonna go for an 80's sound....I would like to hear an updated sound from him...like the bands I mentioned before, Semi Precious Weapons and Dangerous Muse...they are doing the glam rock thing...but with updated contemporary sounds....and they fuckin' kill it....but I think Justin and Mike and Tom all have sex appeal.....Adam does not...at least to me he doesn't...but I've also never seen him live...only on AI...so there's only so much sex appeal you can have on AI...lol

I can't believe the furore about Adam's CD cover art. Why? He's not hurting anyone, is he? Squishing puppies? No. Stealing candy from kids? No. He just loves 70's/80's look and dares to wear make-up and look feminine. So what? It actually makes me feel quite sad that he even has to defend himself because he is getting harsh critisizm as if he has commited a crime. I guess people love to makie a big deal about whatever he does cos there is no other male star in the mainstream scene today in Adam's style.

I mean really... He openly admits that he just does all of his lame-ass stunts for attention. He looks like a creepy clown, channels the most tacky images from a decade best forgotten and spends a lot less time entertaining than he does intentionally making a creepy spectacle of himself.

It might be cool to one day have a gay rock star who doesn't just race around screaming "LOOK AT ME IN MY FISHNETS!!! I'M SO RADICAL!!! AAARRRGGHHH!!!"

I really like the cover, I think Adam is going to do very well and even though he would not bring up his sexuality during AI days its nice to see him embrace his true self more.
