^^ Why is Kris Allen not under me?
Why not support him? He is member of a minority group that you belong to. His success can only help to improve things for people like you and me. And by support I dont mean go to a Adam Concert and send him money. I wouldnt go to an Adam concert. All I mean is stop trying to find fault with him not doing things to perfectly suit you and acknowledge that his courage will help the visibility and viability of the gay community.I dont like the notion that because I am gay, I should support Adam. I also dont support the amount of attention the "fools" are getting, but thats a different story.
I completely agree that Adam is talented, but I still think the attention is over the topic and unwarranted. Yet. I am not judging him negatively because there is nothing to judge.

I've read the interview. He didn't diss rockers, he was talking about himself cos he loves playin dress up as a performer. And he never called his fans "bitches". I know you are a bitter Claymate, but stop twisting words of him.![]()
To Haliburton:
Let's be real though, Adam is not the only "opportunistic" person here, he's just the one getting the most opportunity right now. But the very act of going on American Idol and trying to win, and doing interviews and playing to a fan base, and crafting a stage persona during the competition -- all of it is about opportunism. And there's nothing wrong with that. These people are trying to become music artists after all.
I love Kris too but if the media is more fascinated by Adam at this moment, well that's because he's been more savvy in courting their attention, and because the opportunity is there right now for him to exploit. There's no rule that says the media has to give more attention to the eventual winner. Adam gave the kinds of dynamic performances week after week that had people talking, and like it or not, he is what most people will remember from this season (at least right now) and so he was likely always going to get more attention. And sure, he's exploiting the "coming out" part of it but
1. It's not his fault that his sexuality became an obscene media issue during the competition (Bill O'Reilly?) that could have negatively impacted him; if he has to deal with that, then I certainly can't begrudge him for turning it around and trying to make a positive out of it. If he has to choke on the bad, then he also gets to dine on the good. Fair is fair. And
2. Let's not be naive here, Kris Allen would take every opportunity to drum up media attention for his soon to be released album if he could (and that's what this is all about). Kris' emphasis on his laid-back persona in interviews, his humility, his status as a winner, his good looks -- all of this is being exploited as well. And once again...nothing is wrong with that.
I'm just happy that the two people I enjoyed the most all season made it to the end and got record deals and that even Allison Iraheta got a record deal before Danny Goat-Cheese. My god! If you wanna criticize someone for being an unyielding douchebag, look no further than the Ghoulish Widower.
No you're right but I dont really mean we should just support him and everything he does. What I mean is stop being negative and finding fault with little things. To Aijalon:
You know of course that I completely agree with your affection for Adam, and your criticism of those who seem to enjoy bashing him. However, I do believe there's a difference between people who are reacting in ways that reaffirm the established paradigm of hetero-sexism, and people who simply opt to not base their likes or dislikes on whether someone is the same race/sex/sexual orientation as themselves.
In other words, I like Adam a lot, but I certainly don't believe that gay men should support him just because he's gay. That's actually playing into the very idea that we're trying to criticize; that Adam and Clay (or any other gay man) must be grouped together just because they're gay. I certainly would not support Clay Aiken or Lance Bass or Perez Hilton just because they're gay. But I would support Adam Lambert and Will Young because they're talented and because I like them.
In his defense, Haliburton was NEVER one of those people in the American Idol thread who called Adam derogatory names or made snide comments that were clearly derived from internalized hetero-sexism. He wasn't a fan of Adam's music but he usually gave credit whenever Adam was good, and he just simply preferred Kris Allen's music (as do I, though I like them both).
I'm not a little girlGo back to the fanclub, little girl. You don't belong here.
I never bashed his personality. I like Adam. I loved how candid he was in the RS interview. I dislike that he used his sexuality for attention. I would have preferred if he had just been open about it since day 1, or at the very least right after Idol was over.
He didn't have to say anything at all. It was his business. If he didn't want to acknowledge it until the show was over, then he had that right. Besides, acknowledging it on the AI stage would've probably meant losing votes, unfortunately.
I just don't understand why it was turned into a big game. The whole "Am I or am I not? Hmm... wait and see!" thing was unnecessary. "Coming out" (and I put that in quotes for a reason) doesn't have to be a game, or an opportunistic ploy for cash -- if, in fact, that's what it was.
^^ EXACTLY aijalon! It's been very clear for some time that some of the vitriol towards Adam (by other gays) had to do with the fact that he isn't "straight acting" or "masculine." In the American Idol thread on JUB alone, a few obnoxious posters week in and week out, couldn't negatively critique his performances (which they are free to not like of course) without calling him a drag queen or a fag or any other code word for "effeminate", which in their minds was tantamount to "bad."
I actually really like Adam and every interview with him just ratifies my early intuition that he is a smart, funny, self-possessed young man with a lot of talent. He's right that he and Clay Aiken are totally different people.* Clay is an obnoxious douchebag, while Adam seems like a genuinely nice guy.
* and by the way, this media comparison to Clay Aiken is another example of how hetero-sexist culture views and essentializes gay men. Those two have nothing in common other than the fact that they both like men, and they both happen to be somewhat effeminate.
I was afraid they were gonna put the words "Yes I'm gay" or something like that in the cover (like People Magazine usually does) because it would give the message that he was actually trying to hide and then decided to come out but they didn't do that and I'm happy.
But he did actually hide and then decided to come out. It is completely dishonest that he went in the closet during Idol just so he wouldn't lose votes and then played coy long after the show was over to get maximum impact on a magazine cover. Adam was out for nearly a decade and then he put on a false image pulling a bait and switch in a calculated way.Besides, acknowledging it on the AI stage would've probably meant losing votes, unfortunately.
Hello? He didnt hide anything. He just didnt make an announcement to the world. DO you announce your sexuality in every situation? Did Anoop, and Matt announce that they like pussy and pussy only? He wasnt directly asked during idol. And then after he didnt answer. It has nothing to do with being in the closet. TBH it is an inappropriate question for people to demand to know your sexuality. Especially if you are a singer in a singing competition. If you use your brain you would know straight people would just put all their focus on his sexuality if he made an issue of it right a way and he'd be a late show punchlline. But he did actually hide and then decided to come out. At least "Yes, I'm gay" is honest and gets straight to the point. People magazine has real people looking natural instead of like something from a porn cover shoot on their covers. On Adam's RS cover everything is designed to bring attention to his cock. Its tawdry and cheap.
