Executives at the network were apparently caught off-guard by some elements of Lambert’s so-called “freestyle” performance, including the singer kissing a male keyboard player and thrusting a male dancer’s face into his crotch. The latter moment at least was a part of the rehearsal, though the AP says the dancer did not get as close to Lambert in the rehearsal.
They knew about the bj.act.It did not go as planned but they still knew.

He made an ass out of himself because his performance was amateurish. Being gay is part of his identity and he does have a right to express that part of who he is as he considers most appropriate. And yes, homophobia does play a VERY big part in the reaction that many have had to what he did. Men are simply expected to objectify women, not other men. Same sex behaviour is viewed as acceptable only when it complies with the heterosexist vision of female submission to the male psyche. Man on man action is seen as repulsive.
I would like to ask you, thus, what should have he done? Being openly gay and not hiding it is a way of rubbing one's sexuality in people's faces, because people feel immensely threatened by homosexuality and are obsessed about it, especially with men. Should we blame Adam for not hiding who he is?

I, for one, am not blaming him for anything except his own behavior. Even then, it's not so much blame as it is just voicing my opinion about his character. Let him hump, kiss and orally violate whoever the hell he wants. At the end of the day, it really doesn't affect my life at all. My opinions remain the same though. I think he's tacky, egotistical and starved for attention.

Equating Adam Lambert to Elton John is a real travesty on your part. In no way is Adam Lambert even in the same hemisphere of talent as Elton John. The only thing those two have in common is that they are both gay. And as elvin1 pointed out, Elton John is at least talented and his performances are classey and tasteful.
Sorry, I know we should all be supportive of fellow members of the LGBT community but Adam Lambert is a real disappointment to the entertainment and music industry. His performance was tasteless and unappealing, regardless of his sexuality. Maybe some people like that in an entertainer but he just doesn't pull it off well at all. And as my gay friend from Germany put it earlier today "He is soo ugly"

The performance wasn't my taste but I do like his creativity on some of his other projects. That goes with every artist. Not everyone is going to see the same thing as the next in what they consider art. Just because I don't think someone has talent doesn't mean they don't. Art takes many forms, personalty I don't judge of an artist on 1 piece of there work.
By the way I am proud to be a Fag. I like it better than a lot of the politically correct terms used today

Can we please stop pretending like everything this guy does is art? Yes he has talent, but that doesn't mean he's making a masterpiece everytime he takes a shit. He should've have been entertaining.
The fact that he's gay isn't a problem.
The fact that he doesn't hide it isn't a problem.
The fact that he did grinding moves with his dancers and kissed his (straight!) male keyboardist isn't a problem.
The fact that he managed to not be entertaining during all of this IS a problem.
I don't agree with those who are playing the "he's giving us a bad name" here. I don't expect him to be the poster child for homosexuality for anybody. But I do expect him to be entertaining. That's what he is - an entertainer. And his performance was just lame. It wasn't that the performance was "shocking" (to the easily shockable) - it's that it wasn't anything else in addition to being shocking.
I'm reminded of my friend, who was a huge fan of Andrew Dice Clay when he was at the height of his powers (such as they were). He kept insisting that if you didn't like Andrew Dice Clay or his humor, that meant that you were too easily offended, and you needed to do some self-examination. No, I wasn't offended by Andrew Dice Clay, but I wasn't amused or entertained, either. And that's the bottom line - he's supposed to be entertaining. Adam simply wasn't entertaining. If you want to claim that that simply means I have some internalized homophobia that needs dealt with, you're more than welcome to think so. But don't expect me to agree.
What could he have done? A better song, for one. And he could've sung it better. And the antics didn't really seem to fit the song. If a song is overly horny and oozes with sexuality, sure, hump away and make out with your keyboard player. But the song didn't strike me that way in the slightest. If Whitney had stopped halfway through her song and started Frenching the conductor, I don't think people would be saying "she's asserting her sexuality". They'd wonder why the hell she started Frenching her conductor halfway through her "I'm a survivor" anthem. Similarly, I didn't think Adam's song called out for sexual antics. And as such, they were revealed for what they were - attention-getting devices.
