Adam Lambert [merged]

Re: Adam Lambert's Album Cover

When was the last time mainstream America embraced someone like him? He is the first mainstream openly gay singer to be out at the start of his career.

Meh. Boy George did it in 1983. It's a bit different, for sure, as George played coy a bit and then played the "bisexual" card but he was a drag queen.. I mean.. ya know? Deeelight had two gay members and they ruled the charts for a couple months in 1990. Frankie Goes To Hollywood had two gay singers at the start of their career and so did Bronski Beat, although they weren't "embraced" by American radio. (although is Adam Lambert embraced? his album only did "ok" and if it weren't for American Idol, he wouldn't have a career at all)

That said.. Adam Lambert is doing just fine. Sadly, he's been around for ages, it seems, and I still don't know what he sounds like.

I heard his first single a few times but his voice is is auto-pitched and processed he sounds like R2D2.

Lets all hope he gets taken seriously as a singer and not an image.

Re: Adam Lambert's Album Cover

Hmmm... You didn't think those "Details" photos were "hetero-pacifying?"
The magazine came up with the idea of the photo shoot and Adam accepted the idea. That is not about realism and it is abundantly clear that he is not trying to dive back into the closet. He is proudly out and posing with a woman in one fashion magazine does not threaten his gay, lol.

Well, I was talking about solo artists, not bands. I don't think any of those gay members of bands became successful as a openly gay solo artist in the US. Adam's album is the second biggest debut for a new artist this year behind Susan Boyle and has sold 300000 copies in three weeks. That's an amazing accomplishment especially by an out young gay pop singer. Also his album has gained many positive reviews from the press achieving an average score of 71 on Metacritic which is great for any Idol alum. For example, SPIN Magazine which usually ignore Idol contestants - they certainly haven't condescended to review any of them - gave FYE 3.5 stars out of 5.

Re: Adam Lambert's Album Cover

Sorry, but if he'd really been proud of his sexuality, then he wouldn't have done that kind of photo shoot.
A gay actor doesn’t sell out when he does a movie playing a heterosexual male involved in a relationship with a woman, so why would a few art photos for the fashion magazine be considered selling out? Adam wasn't even the person who came up with the concept for the photoshoot.

Boy George did manage a couple solo hits in North America, but that's not really the point.

Culture Club had 2 huge albums and two medium-sized hits and they did it without being staples on the highest-rated TV show before their first record. My point is that anyone can get the kind of press that Adam Lambert got and have 1record sell half a million copies.

Let's see if he's able to sustain his career for any length of time.

I hope he is, but it's not looking good, to be honest.

Re: Adam Lambert's Album Cover

Adam was not acting out a role in a movie or play. He was being himself. (You did notice the guyliner and nail polish, right?) Doesn't matter whether he came up with the concept or not. He could have declined or simply asked for a different kind of shoot.
Magazine photoshoots are not all about realism, are they? Most of it is an illusion, a fantasy. He has always said that he is an entertainer. All you have to do is see all his interviews to know that he loves to dress-up and role-play. And the article talks about him being gay, he is not going back in the closet or something like that.

Well, Culture Club is a british band. Adam gets the media attention becasue he is the first young pop solo singer to be out at the start of his career in America, and he is overtly sexual. There is no one like him on the mainstream music scene today. He is not mainstream, this is exactly why he lost to Kris in AI in the first place. He is doing well IN SPITE OF it. His album debuted #8 in New Zealand, #87 in the UK, #11 in Canada, and #26(foreign music genre) in Japan. He has so much potential to do well internationally judging from the sales in other countries with 0 promotion. His label are planning to launch him in the UK and Japan next year, so they seem to think he has a lot of potential and they are really supporting him. I’m sure they have their reasons. I don’t think that they would be supporting his career as much as they are if they didn’t intend to keep him around for awhile.

Re: Adam Lambert's Album Cover

That's not the point. He had just come out officially a few months earlier, and the fact that he went out of his way to have a very explicit and sexual photo shoot with a buck-naked woman sends out a pretty clear message. And seriously, how many people do you think have read that article? Compare that to the much higher number of people who have seen (and will continue to see) the photos. Now that he's caught hell because of that male-male kiss on the awards show, I wouldn't be surprised if he goes back to doing sexy shoots with women. It's much more palatable for the public to see a gay man acting straight than a gay man actually being true to his sexuality.

Besides, it's pretty obvious from the way he talks about his escapades with women that he's really bisexual, not gay. I wish he'd just go ahead and admit it instead of riding on this ridiculous "I'm gay but women are pretty and I love making out with them and wanna go farther" crap.
Get real. Lots of gay/straight people are bi-curious

Re: Adam Lambert's Album Cover

I am real, and it's my opinion. You don't have to agree with it if you don't want to. Being bi-curious is no big deal and pretty common, but his interest in women goes beyond that, as far as I'm concerned. The media eats it up too; they talk more about his sexual experiences with women than anything he's even remotely done with a guy.
He has talked about being gay and having boyfriends in all his major interviews (even Details). He has been photographed holding hands and kissing men.
He is very sexual guy and admits he is bi-curious but he says he doesn't have intimate relationships with women. What the big deal. You have got to quit pigeoholing and labelling other gays because you presume to know the best way a gay man should behave. You get ticked off when heterosexists tell you how to live your lives, yet you have no qualms heaping the same kind of pressure & criticism on one another. What really gets to me is the sense of entitlement, and huge expectations gays place on anyone who comes out and happens to be famous. And we wonder why more celebrities won't come out of the closet?

Re: Adam Lambert's Album Cover

I dont get these gay people who feel the need to constantly nitpick and undermine every little thing Adam Lambert does. He is the only young gay artist to begin his career openly. Most other people have come out after their success or being outed by force. He is being very brave because the fact is much of this country is still homophobic and his safety is at risk every day. There are people who hate him just because he likes guys. And we all know people like that can be dangerous. Just look at the abortion doctor who was killed.

ANd Jasun, I generally appreciate your comments whether I agree or not, but you have a nerve talking about "dudes" who like Lil' Wayne are not gonna like Adam. Who gives a fuck about "dudes" that listen to Lil' Wayne. Lil Wayne is a nasty ass pig that has 2 different girls pregnant at the same time and his dumb ass is goin to jail. Him and the meathead straight guys that worship him are worthless. Thankfully all straight guys are not the "dudes" that live at the gym, do keg stands, and fuck those rotten skanks with tramp stamps. Some straight guys do listen to Adam Lambert, Kris Allen, Joss Stone, and many others. Adam will do just fine without the "dude" dollar. Gay people needa pull their heads outta their asses and stop criticizing every gay guy who isnt straight acting enough or doesnt say everything perfectly.

Can't some people just accept the fact that we don't like his music](*,)

Most of criticism about him in this thread have nothing to do with his music  It frankly pisses me off to read some of the comments coming from gay men on some so-called popular gay sites. There are always comments like "he is fat, wears makeup, not butch enough and he is not my type". I'm not saying that if you are gay you must love Adam, but seriously it'd be nice if just one time, the bitchy gays would drop the pretentious attitude and just acknowledge that a young gay man out there is doing well for themselves in spite of being openly gay. Hopefully, just as old homophobes have to die out, the bitchy, old bitter queens have to also die out, and will be then replaced by a more embracing, and secure, generation.

But you are exactly like the people that you claim criticize Adam for being gay. You seem to only like him because of being "a young gay man out there is doing well for themselves in spite of being openly gay."

You also don't care about the quality of his music, just his sexuality.

When did I say I don't like his music? I like most of his songs and I think he is talented and charismatic.

73 posts and almost all exclusively Adam related. Bet most of those have nothing to do with his musical "talent".

Happy Holidays!

Re: Adam Lambert's Album Cover

Nobody likes his music. "his" music is just a generic hodge-podge of whatever shit they could throw at the wall. His album goes from Britney Spears rip-offs to Aerosmith rip-offs to Lady Gaga rip-offs and I'm sure they're kicking themselves for not including a cover of "I dreamed a dream."

Adam Lambert is, like most pop stars, all style and no substance. What's funny is that unlike Britney Spears... he actually can sing. But the target audience for his album don't like "good" singers, they just like "Divas."

If that's the case everybody is ripping off everybody. Nobody is original. I dont see you ripping Susan Boyle apart. She didnt exactly reinvent the wheel. The main reason she's popular is because she has the voice of an angel and the face of a troll.

I honestly think he's playing the bi-curious card to keep his straight female audience interested. I mean, let's face it, the industry is completely paranoid about letting a gay guy be gay! I think he, and his management, are convinced that he needs to express SOME interest in the opposite sex in order to stay popular. Remember, he wasn't photographed with a woman at that Halloween party in the early November issue of "Star."

This is coming from the guy who likes Susan Boyle and bought her album .
Stop acting like a music expert when you are just one of old fogies who buy an album of unoriginal cover songs.

Precisely! I'm sick and tired of having his fans invade every gay site to shove
this guy down our throats by playing the "but he's a young gay guy out at the beginning of his career" card.

So what? It doesn't make his voice any better or his contrived image any more attractive.
Gay sites are the ones that keep writing articles about him, not his fans.
Most of your posts here are bitching about Adam, and it's obvious that you are a Clay Aiken fan who is being bitter because Adam is the one getting all the attention from the gay media
