Age and Age Groups

I don't think 26 is young anymore because of my age. I am scared of turning 20, let alone 25 so, 26 is just terrifyingly old. I think that everybody will have a different idea of what is old etc. based on their own age.
Honey, don't be scared of twenty. Be scared of thirty!... that's a total mindfuck. ;)

But it's true: the definition of "old" gets pushed farther and farther back the longer you live. When I was twenty, twenty-five seemed pretty old; now I'm forty-two and twenty-five is still a baby! And my grandmother, who will be ninety-three next month, always shakes her head and sighs "but s/he was so young" when someone in their seventies dies; if you asked her to fill in the ages for youth, middle age, and old age, it would be 0-50 = young, 50-100 = middle aged, and 100+ = old.

I'm 21 and my life partner is 34. I don't think that is old at all. I have never had a better relationship and never thought a guy could ever be so wonderful.

I would say

Young - 20 -40

Middle Age - 40 - 60

Old 60+

I used to feel the same way at your age but was wrong.

This is so true. Lots of young guys try to sound so deep and insightful, but they really have no idea what they're talking about. It's really all immature ego projection...but they don't realize it until they're a bit older.

Not true for me. I still fear aging as much as I ever did. My definition of old really has not changed.

Why are people afraid of aging? From what I've seen, people can be forty and fabulous.

What about those of us who aren't so fabulous? I never was fabulous, and much less so at 50...:(

I'm sorry, but you seem rather vapid and shallow, based on your responses.

How dare you. Because I want to stay young, you're basically saying my life lacks liveliness and I am unintelligent?

Sorry, but who the hell are you?

Based on your rather boring responses, I think you're quite the bell end. And if you haven't got anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. Get over it

I'm sorry, do you have a problem with me or just with young people in general? Or maybe just a mental illness? Personally, I hope it's the third ...

No, but since you are now saying it, I might as well agree.

I think you should be asking yourself this question. You don't seem to know.

I was never under it.

Dude, I am only a few years older than you. I don't have a "problem" with you, but I do take issue with some of your comments and responses in the thread, so they'll be addressed. That's how discussions work.

All you teenagers who are afraid to turn 20, if I were you I would try not to STRESS or get DEPRESSED cause that shit makes you age just as fast as smoking or drinking. Take it from someone who stressed all through College, I've never smoked or never drank heavily but people think I look in my late 30's.

Oh yeah also don't grow facial hair cause that adds about 5 years to your actual age.

I find that there seems to be so many insecure people here on JUB who happen to be 'older'. Maybe it's the issue of 'aging' in the gay community--but it's really annoying...and I can't understand it. I can also tell that some of them feel the need to defend how they may be 'older...but still feel (insert young age here)'. It's really disheartening to see...

Interesting, because I sense that, as well. There's a lot of insecure (and off topic) projecting in this thread, and a few others dealing with age that have popped up. I do think some of these people need professional help.

or fifty and fabulous. ;)

And many can say that I'm still young, I have no idea how it feels to be old and aging--but I can assure you that I won't mind getting older. Hell, it beats the alternative.

I readily admit to being insecure, about my age, and may other things too.

I sincerely hope you don't mind getting older, and handle it much better than I have. However, how does anyone know that it beats the alternative?

0-14: Children
15-35: young
36-70: Middle aged
71+: Old

That said, I think it really depends on the individual person. My grandparents were probably 80 before i thought of them as old.
