Alien V Predator

Re: Alien or Predator, which movie franchise is better?

Aliens. The Predator movies are awesome, but the Alien franchise has a bigger potential imo. I loved AvP at first, but after watching it 70 times I've found too many flaws.

Re: Alien or Predator, which movie franchise is better?

The main flaw, being, that it's shit, right? ;)

Re: Alien or Predator, which movie franchise is better?

Alien(s), no question!

Re: Alien or Predator, which movie franchise is better?

What pissed me off most was the fact that the predators are claimed to come to earth only every 100 years. According to AvP the predators hunted in 1914 and 2004, but the Predator movies take place in the late 80s and early 90s. Furthermore they come to earth to hunt aliens, not humans, which contradicts the predator movies.

In AvP, the Predator shoulder cannons are stored inside the pyramid, but they bring all their other weapons with them from the ship. This makes absolutely no sense and it again contradicts the Predator movies in which the Predators bring all of their weapons including shoulder cannons with them. Then, why would you have to input the date to retrieve the weapons? Also, the Aztec calender was based on the multiples of 13 and 18, not 10 as stated in the movie.

The pyramid's supposed to shift every ten minutes. Exept for the part where it shifts two times within a period of three minutes and stops shifting for the rest of the movie.

In the Alien movies the time span between the "infection" by the facehugger and the actual "birth" was at least a day or two. In AvP it seems to be a matter of minutes or a few hours at most until the aliens burst out of their hosts' chests.

And there are much more types of flaws that I don't want to go into at this point...

Blue or green - which color is better?

Re: Alien or Predator, which movie franchise is better?

Also if you read the AvP comics, they were in fact quite similar to the movie.

After reading all the comics, I have to say I prefer them over the movie.

In AvP that, was a ritual, a sort of Rites of Passage for "teenage" predators.

In the Predator Movies, the reason why they came back early was to get, technology taken from them, and because for the first time, the humans kicked their asses.

Like I said, in AvP the predators come to Earth to hunt Aliens, their ultimate prey, and we just happen to be chow for the critters. That contradicts the Predator movies, in which they come to Earth to hunt Humans, not Aliens. Also, the predators brought hosts to the Sacrificial Chamber before the hunt could begin. But in 2004 they just enter the pyramid without bringing hosts. Paul Anderson tries to explain this contradiction in the movie itself away by saying that the heatplume was bait for the human expedition, but that contradicts the whole Sacrificial Chamber concept, and doesn't make sense because we wouldn't be able to detect said bait until today, and there were no humans yet on Antarctica in let's say 1804 or 1704 or so....

You have to give Paul W. S. Anderson as he's not the most affluent, or adept int he english language.

Neither am I! :D lol
Me thinks I got to watch the movies in english sometime anyway...

Re: Alien or Predator, which movie franchise is better?

The Alien movies were better all the way, hands down. Aliens was the best of the bunch if you ask me. Alien 3 was pretty lame, but I did really like Alien 4 (mostly because I like almost anything by Jean-Pierre Jeunet) up until the did the really cheesy Alien-Human hybrid baby. THat ruined it right at the end.

I remember hearing that the original script for Alien 3 had the Aliens coming to earth, and that earth would have been completely overrun ( like the books and comics). That would have made for a much better movie.

As far as AvP goes, I enjoyed it. Yeah it was cheesy and had some plot holes, but it was better than any of the stand alone Predator movies. I did like how they linked the "Bishop" character.

Re: Alien or Predator, which movie franchise is better?

Actually you're almost right.

What James Cameron wanted to do was have Ripley be in the first few minutes of the film. But she was going to disappear, and Newt, (That guy who died) and Bishop were going to head to earth, and Newt was going to get some kind of psychic message from an ALien (Not the Xeno-Morphs but a different Alien) Anyways they were suppose to goto earth and warn the people that the Aliens (Xeno-morphs) were either heading to earth, or already there.
The government dismissed them and through another psychic vision it is revealed to Newt that the Government is actually BREEDING the Xeno-Morphs. It also reveals to Newt that it's race is going to destroy earth, because of what they are doing.

So big stuff happens, Marines fight the Xeno-Morphs, they end up evacuating earth or soemthing liek that, with in the background you see the other Alien ship. it leaves, but gives another warning to Newt, and by the end, they plan to take back earth and that's when Ripley shows up again, leaving it open for a fourth movie, other than ressurection.
}
I'm sure it's more detailed than that, but I think I'm really close. IGN did a full write up of how James Cameron and Ridley Scott would of continued the franchise, but Fox deemed it too exspensive...

Man, that would have been WAY better than the Dog Alien VS prisoners Alien 3. Shame Fox botched that up. I remember the original teaser for it showed the Alien egg floating towards earth. I'm rpetty sure it's on the collectors edition DVD of Alien 3.

Re: Alien or Predator, which movie franchise is better?

"Alien" was a classic in suspense and gradual creeping horror, but my favorite was 'Aliens", which is non-stop balls-out action. It has one of my favorite lines of all time . . .

"We're fucked, man! Game over, man! Game over !" !

My fav line of all time is in Aliens, too.

"Get away from her you BITCH!!!"

lol

Re: Alien or Predator, which movie franchise is better?

I just go through watching Predator 2, first time I saw it and it will probably be the last time I see it.

The first Predator was OK, but my vote is still for the Alien franchise. Bonus point for Aliens cos Hicks is way hot.

Re: Alien or Predator, which movie franchise is better?

I love both of them... In fact, even if I love a bit less AvP, even this one was pretty cool... I'll watch AvP2.

I have some kind of chauvinist feeling about Aliens4 (remember that the director filmed "Amelie" just after this one...) but I love the third one, especially the director's cut, really better than the original.

Re: Alien or Predator, which movie franchise is better?

I'd give Alien 3 credit though for having the balls for doing somthing completely different from the first two, and the thought of having to fight one of those things without technology or guns or marines was a rather good idea and worked rather well in the confines of that creepy prison. I actually thought it was creepier than ALIENS and the atmosphere was quite gothic and predatory when I saw it, though granted I was underage and my big brother was supposed to have hidden all his tapes of that nature away from my prying eyes ;)
But yeah, the first three Alien films were good and should have been the only films, though I think RESURRECTION was good as a stand alone movie, though I kept praying through the whole damn thing for one of those Aliens to kill Call aka Winona Ryder. God I hate that bitch !

Re: Alien or Predator, which movie franchise is better?

man the above idea for aliens 3 would have been awesome.. man they should do a Batman Begins and go back and do a 3rd film like that, with the CGI they could do i think this would kick ass... although saying that i think we have a similar movie coming up (Halo).

The Halo film is on permanent hold, so I doubt we'll ever get it. Maybe after Halo 3 comes out and does well.

On a side note, was anyone else annoyed when they made the Superman Vs Aliens and Batman Vs Aliens comics. I just didn't see the need for those universes to cross.

Re: Alien or Predator, which movie franchise is better?

I liked all the alien movies except AVP i even liked Ressurection, i thoght it was very different from the other alien movies...def. not as good as the 3 previous movies but still a good one... in 79' when i went to the theatres to see "ALIEN"
i was about 7 and i really liked scary movies so it was no big thing...but when that alien popped out af Kanes body i almost had a heart attack...it took me a few years to watch it again but now im a huge fan of the alien series!!

Re: Alien or Predator, which movie franchise is better?

Aliens! coolest looking creatures that scared the shit out of me.

Re: Alien or Predator, which movie franchise is better?

The Alien franchise is by far the best of the two and Aliens is the best of the franchise.

Re: Alien or Predator, which movie franchise is better?

OK Aliens and Alien are far better. Compare 3 the cinema realese and Resurrection to both Preditor films and they win hands down.
