American Christian Taliban?

"So they only die on the highway if God wills it?"
"That's right."
"Then I assume you'll be taking the airbags and seatbelts out of your car, because you'll only die if it's God's will?"
"Ummmm..."

LOL.....

"but God requires that as one of the Chosen, that I don't endanger any possible converts that I take to Prayer Meetin',"

But Kuli who are we to argue with the will of the divine?

The will of the divine: You shall not murder.

I've seen Christians describe the chaos resulting from believers disappearing in the Rapture, and they seem to take positive glee in all the pain, death and destruction that would result. Although the doctrine is a very recent invention, I can't dismiss it out of hand; considering it, I'd think the proper reaction to all the resultant chaos would be sorrow and compassion, not glee.

Then I guess you'd better not drive, because if the driver disappears, your possible convert may have but a few seconds to make a decision.

I suppose one could argue that since the Rapture is supposed to be the first move in a sort of "Party's over! Everybody out of the pool!" scenario, a relative handful being cashed out early (okay, so I'm mixing metaphors) isn't that big a deal. But to reference a poster popular among evangelicals:

A little girl walked along a beach, picking up sea stars (starfish) and tossing them into the waves. A man came up to her and said, "There are thousands here dying -- you're not going to make a difference". She picked up another, threw it into the water, and replied, "It made a difference to that one".

How does compassion for the individual so easily vanish?

Yeah, I wasn't being serious there Kuli.

I kinda thought so, but while I entertain that the Rapture may be a possibility, in spite of being a recent invention in doctrine, I really get burned at people who think it would be funny to see planes crash because their pilots were suddenly gone, massive freeway pileups because of vanishing drivers, and other havoc.

They say it would just be part of God's judgment, but even God feels the pain of those on whom His wrath falls -- these people don't, and that's just twisted.

I assume you're talking about the rapture people here.

Yes.
Though not even all of them; some few don't fit the picture I've painted -- but most struck me as the sort who thinks that the verse that says of God that "He sits in the heavens and laughs" applies to when non-believers get hurt and suffer.
