American Idol Results [SPOILER]

I know there is an Idol discussion already in the Entertainment section...but I want to take this a to a more cultural/political note.

Adam is obviously gay. He's a little flamboyant, a little different. Let me be honest...I find Kris way more attractive, and the type of guy I'd be drawn into. However I recognize talent, and know when a star is born.

Adam is a star.

Maybe its sour grapes on my part but I see this as another instance of America staying in their comfort zone with a good married Christian white boy from the south. It was like...in the end...America just couldn't embrace a gay 'idol'.

They kept saying Kris was the underdog...maybe he was in the framework of a reality competition, but Adam had the politics and social consciousness of a nation working against him.

We've had a lot of wins lately with Vermont, Iowa, etc. but I still don't think America is anywhere close to getting where it needs to be.

Hmm...

No, I don't the 'gay thing' had a lot to do with the outcome....

As I mentioned in the entertainment section... Remember that far and away the largest group of people that actually vote are prepubescent girls.

And, girls of that age LUV the 'non-threatening male' image, which Kris has in spades....

Quite simply, Kris was cuter than Adam, and that's all that mattered to them.

Like I said in the entertainment thread. Kris won because he is cute, not because he is straight or because adam is gay. Hell gay people on this forum were voting for Kris just because of that reason.

Some people probably had a prejudice but I really believe it was a small minority.

Anticlimatic. But at the end of the day, Kris won. He appeals to most of the Idol viewers who vote at home. Adam is still a great guy and no one wanted it more than him.

That passion can go towards a great career!

They both suck but the kid who won was more tolerable than the other one.

Hopefully they're both forgotten in the future like most of the Idol rejects.

Kris won because he is more conventional. He is safer for many people to actually see in music.

You may be right, Stacy. I'd like to give the American public more credit than that, but sadly most folks don't want to be 'challenged' by music. Or movies.
Or most any other art form.

They know what they like and they like what they know...

It's frustrating, really....

The only reason I'm even aware that this Adam guy exists is because of this and other threads saying who he is. Never heard him sing or know what he even looks like...or the other guys for that matter. You are assuming it's an anti-gay slur because he didn't win, when it might be that alot of people don't even know who he is. I've never watched american idol, don't plan to start. It's all political in your eyes, maybe enough people didn't watch that appreciate this man's talent more that the one who did win. Simple it's all about votes, he didn't get enough. Sorry he didn't win, I know you really were rooting for him to win. If he is Gay? you don't know, he will still more than likely get a contract out of this, so he still won't have lost everything.

No kidding. I don't watch the show, but if I did, I'd be pissed as hell at this thread. How inconsiderate.

I'm still wondering about the author of the post making a big deal about this possibly being a conspiracy against the gay community and then putting the straight guy as his avatar...

No one can tell me that Kris Allen is a more talented or original artist than Adam Lambert. No one can tell ANYONE unless they are deaf. Yes, it does feel like a slap in the face. I don't care whether Adam has officially announced his sexual preference; he doesn't have to. But the sad fact of the matter is that America prefers the run-of-the-mill to the truly gifted, and that's a fucking shame.

He already stated that he finds Kris attractive. It's not unusual for a guy to have an avatar of someone he finds attractive.

Talent-wise, it was not close from what little I have heard from the two of them. I can't see Kris getting a record deal. Its not that he is vanilla but that he is not that talented.
