American Idol: Season 10

I don't think Pia should have left yet, but it's not shocking. She has a great voice and is pretty, but that's about it. Last night she gave a bad performance. She basically turned Tina Turner into a quasi ballad. There was no punch or grit to the performance. She showed that she can't do up tempo. I had been voting for her (in addition to others), but after that performance I didn't vote for her this week. I suspect the others felt the same way.

I still don't know how Paul ever made it into the top 12. I just don't get him. How his performance last night earned the pimp spot is beyond me. Talk about making a joke out of a serious song. I'm also tired of Casey's smirk and growl in every performance. They should be the next two to go home.

I wish we could get all new judges. All three are useless.

My top (insert number) run-down

Pia deserved to go. She put herself in the land of giants that she absolutely CANNOT compete with. Whitney and Mariah are similar, rhythmless divas with big voices, but Mariah has her whistle register and Whitney sings 100% original riffs.

Pia robotically belts notes when she's supposed to in a safe/contained manner. The lifelessness in her riffs is only paralleled by the lifelessness in her hips. She got eaten alive trying to take on Tina Turner who was known for having a one-of-a-kind stage presense. Honestly the most interesting thing about her performance was the congo solo. Big ups to the percussionist!

If she spent as much time studying stagemanship as she spent picking dresses and fussing over hair/make-up she could've stayed longer. Big voice (notice I said big, NOT great), zero personality.

I was sad to see Naima and Thia go, but neither of them were vocally consistent. Casey was my early fave but the constipation he calls growling and whatnot has already been overdone. He can improve if he explores more colors of his voice, and if he stops taking himself so seriously. Running around like a pansy and pretending to care THAT MUCH that the save was used on him was clearly a play-up for the cameras. Next!

Lauren Alaina is a sweet girl but in a perfect world she'll be the next to go. Jacob Lusk irks me because I'm not a fan of church queens, especially when they immitate Kim Burrell and try to make their voice sound higher-pitched than it is. Stefano is a potential winner because America loves pretty light-skinned boys who can kinda-sorta-barely sing. Paul is fun, James is a tool and the judges need to get off his cock. Choosing a slow song isn't a risk, it's a calculated decision. Smart? Yes. Bold? Risky? Nowhere near it.

I adore Haley but I doubt she's gonna win, bluesy artists never last on Idol although Benny and the Jets was magic and Piece of My Heart was the best rendition of the song on idol ever. Hell, it was the ONLY competent rendition of the song on Idol (hi carrie!).

Did I forget anyone? If so, it's not my fault, it's theirs.

Am I the only one who is LOVING the crazy things Steven Tyler says? Or am I the only one waiting for Will.I.Am.Not's corny ass and unforgivable haircut to get OFF camera?

This is the 5th straight week that a girl has gone home (not counting the Casey Abrams save) and now we're left with two pretty white chicks and a bunch of dudes. I'm really starting to believe that America is racist and sexist. I mean, look at tonight's Bottom 3: A black guy and two Italians. Meanwhile, six pretty white people remained safe.

The first girl to go home was black. (Ashthon)

The second girl to go home was Puerto Rican. (Karen)

The third girl to go home was... well, I'm not sure what her ethnicity was, but she wasn't a pretty blonde white chick. (Naima)

The fourth girl to go home was Filipina. (Thia)

And then there was Pia.

I wish we could get all new judges. All three are useless.
This is true. Why are they even there? I don't think I've heard them give a single negative review all season. Every performance (according to them) has been "amazing" and "mind blowing" and "incredible."

Although America is absolutely NOT racist, and has absolutely NO PROBLEMS with racism WHATSOEVER, every year the idol voters consistently show love to anyone with pale skin, talented or not. I think it's a coincidence though, cuz everybody knows racism doesn't exist anymore. ;)

And I take offense to the two pretty white girls thing. Haley is a pretty white girl WITH a rock and roll voice. Is she RnR Hall of Fame-ready? Nah, but she can get there if they put her in the studio with Raphael Saadiq and Alicia Keys and avoid giving her sub-par, corny pop material. I don't care if she wins I want her to have a nice lil career. :D

I give Pia more credit than you, but I'm TOTALLY with you on these points! I only have Haley to root for now!

Lauren Alaina is a sweet girl

No she isn't.

but in a perfect world she'll be the next to go.

Yes she should.

LoL, Lauren does have kind of a stinky bitchface but for some reason I like her.

LMAO at stinky bitchface, I need to use that one some time. There are SO many people that could describe.

I want Jacob to go home for the simple fact that he clearly has a bigger ego than anyone you can think of. Why is he NOT catching flack for saying this "If America votes me off it's because they aren't ready to look in the mirror."

What an arrogant thing to say but I guess people are too busy patting themselves on the back for being tolerant of a gay black man. I'll give him credit, of all the black queens on idol (every season has at least 5 or 6) he does have the most consistent vocal ability.

Right?

Tonight when Ryan brought it up during the results, I thought Jacob might take it back or clarify the statement as a joke or whatever, but no. He just stood there and looked ahead like, "Yeah, I said it! AND...?!"

I hope I'm wrong about him but he strikes me as the type that goes shopping with the girl contestants, bbqs with the guys, but then goes to his room at lights-out, calls his friends and talks about how much better he is than the competition.

You guys are so right about Jacob. America wasn't ready to look in the mirror...said the guy who doesn't look in the mirror when he makes those weird-ass faces while singing. Can't stand him after that comment. And I can't believe that alone didn't get him the boot over Pia.

But he's still only second on my list after Miss Piggy Alaina. Candle in the Wind? More like candle-wax in my eyes.

Also, with my Survivor buddy slipintothefog, my Big Brother buddy Salemite, my feisty frenemy aijalon, and now my darling Karen Walker popping up (after I haven't seen him in far too long), this thread is just chockful of people I enjoy!

Too bad I can't say the same for Idol.

It was quite interesting to see all minorities in the bottom three and all the pale people just chillin in safety. I don't think idol necessarily reflects America but moreso a particular segment of America. And unfortunately a segment that votes. If you notice all the annoying honkytonk singers always do so well on idol pretty much every year.

And i feel so bad for Stefano. Obviously I would try to make babies with him, but I kinda want him to go. I'm tired of America constantly putting him in the bottom 3 and him having to hear people being audibly upset that he is staying and someone else is going. He doesnt deserve that.

And he is not just a pretty boy. maybe people don't like his style but he does have a good voice. That is undeniable. Even though most people here do have taste, when I have been to "mainstream" idol boards people are not into his exotics looks. Lots of people think Paul and Casey are hot and Stefano is not. I hate middle America.

Speaking of which, the new season premieres July 6th! I know I shouldn't be excited for it after the snoozefest that was BB12, but I am. At least we know BB13 can't be any worse.

I didn't get to actually see the show I was shopping for a birthday present for one of my bestfriends, but I'm pissed Pia went home, especially with Paul still there. He needs to go imo

WHAT THE FUCK????

I used to think Melinda Doolittle's boot before the finals was the worst AI result. But this surpasses it. Pia Toscano was the best fucking singer every week and she doesn't at least make it to F3???

Fuck this season!

And of course this makes me hate Casey even more. His fat ass got saved when Pia really needed it. Damn.

In all fairness though, that was the FAIL of the Judges, I knew when they used their save during the Top 11 (which was way too Early imo) that it was going to bite them in the ass and it did.

Right?

Tonight when Ryan brought it up during the results, I thought Jacob might take it back or clarify the statement as a joke or whatever, but no. He just stood there and looked ahead like, "Yeah, I said it! AND...?!"

Wow That really just made me have some dislike for him, i mean he's ok but not the BEST by any means

As long as you run the thread, I'll be there. :D

Seriously. How else to explain Scotty McCreery's likely sweep to the finals, even though he's been corny onstage several times (including last night), barely finds the melody in his songs, and performs with sex-less self-conscious smirking and winking? This is what middle America wets their panties over? Blech.

Also, remember how they were overpraising Lauren Alaina for singing a song she's way too young -- and way too stupid -- to understand? The judges need to watch this over and over for some perspective:

That's singing bitches.

I didn't get the Lauren praise either, and I like her. She swamped through Natural Woman with clumsiness and awkwardness and didn't give the song any of the passion Aretha gives it on her worst days. I think the producers of the show are out to prove that they can make it without Simon, so the judges have to convince America that these are superstars they're voting for. Would Lauren have been able to compete against Fantasia or Clay or Kelly? ](*,)
