And Let's not forget about the other Deplorables

When you're a pastor, you shouldn't be sending dick pics to a minor...

A Goleta pastor who also coached high school students has been arrested on felony sex crime charges involving minors.

Shaun Donald Hertlein, 42, was taken into custody Friday, May 9, after Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s detectives served him with a warrant. Detectives began investigating Hertlein in April.

He faces charges including sending sexual images to a minor, communicating with a minor with the intent to commit specific crimes, and possession of obscene images of a child. His bail is set at $500,000.

Sheriff’s officials said Hertlein worked with children at a church in the 5800 block of Cathedral Oaks Road. Online videos list him as a pastor at South Coast Church at that same address. Social media posts also show his affiliation with the Santa Barbara Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Once again.

Jesus Christ. Wept.

New frontiers in AI (or A1, if you're Secretary of Education)...

A teacher at a Christian school in Florida (of course) decided that arts and crafts didn't scratch that itch, so he made AI porn from 6th grade students' pictures.

David McKeown, 47, is facing 25 felony charges for possession of child sexual abuse material, his arrest affidavit states.

An anonymous tip to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children reported that a some other website user had inappropriate images of children. Investigators identified McKeown using the phone number and IP address associated with the account, the report states.

Investigators said McKeown had used pictures of students to create AI-generated child sexual abuse images.

McKeown was a sixth-grade teacher at United Brethren In Christ (UBIC) Academy and has since been fired from the school.

Judging from that out-of-control beard on his face, he's probably not a drag queen.

Homeschool isn't even a safe place from pedophile pastors.

The pastor of a Loxley church, which routinely hosted homeschool and youth fine arts activities, is being accused of possessing pornographic videos and photographs of young girls.

Allan Kyle Jones, 48, pastor of Lifeway Community Church in Loxley, is facing four criminal charges for possessing sexually explicit images. He was arrested Tuesday morning by the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) and released several hours later on a $60,000 bond.

It was only a matter of time, wasn't it?

I am sure that somewhere a man with no professed belief in any God might be contemplating the same thing...but with the religious...they generally get there first, fastest and in greater numbers than people who may have a stronger moral and ethical compass because they aren't pretending that some God forgives them for exploiting children.

This may come as a shock but youth pastors can't keep it in their pants.

In June 2024, then 39-year-old Ryan McElrath, a former youth pastor at Fellowship Bible Church in Jackson, was booked into the Madison County jail on charges involving inappropriate sexual conduct with a minor.

A warrant revealed that the arrest stemmed from an alleged incident that took place at the church between McElrath and a 17-year-old female victim.

In February 2025, McElrath pled guilty to “use of a facility and means of interstate commerce to persuade, induce, entice a minor to engage in criminal sexual acts.” The plea agreement includes that McElrath will be placed on the national sex offender registry.

On June 6, 2025, McElrath was sentenced at the U.S. District Court in Jackson to 252 months (21 years) in federal custody and five years supervised release. He was also ordered to pay over $8,000 in restitution.

One of the recurring questions has been, "How can these so-called 'Christians' support someone like Donald Trump?".

Well, birds of a feather...

So, what constitutes child porn? I would have thought that the images would have to be recordings of actual children. In this case, a non-porn image was altered by AI to produce an image that looks real but is not. Doesn't seem like the same thing.

Is a drawing of child porn illegal?

Just going to point out something- Mike Johnson is a Republican from Louisiana but he's also Speaker of the House and the second in line in Presidential succession. He does have a bigger responsibility to the nation at large.

This bill is not a small piece of legislation that can be laden with pork. It's the 10 year budget for the Federal government and it is being passed under Budget Reconciliation. It includes raising the debt ceiling and massively exploding the Federal debt and the annual deficit, which means that the Treasury will be printing money to cover Treasury securities that will be declining in value.

Everyone, Democrat or Republican, is responsible for the financial security of the United States. When the foreign investors pull money out of securities and the interest rate on the Federal debt has to increase to attract more investment, every citizen in the United States will suffer for a generation. Voting for the bill under the excuse you got freebies for Alaska is a shit excuse for tanking the entire Federal economy. Murkowski is not stupid. She knows that is exactly what she just did.
I agree both democrats and republicans have a responsibility for the financial health of the country and I would add that voters do as well. I doubt many Americans feel responsible for the debt or even that they have benefited from it but in a democracy they are and they have. Ronald Reagan showed that if you give Americans 100% of their government at 90% of the cost they are fine with that and it nicely mirrors the private finances of many Americans.

Murkowski is as guilty as the rest of us but no more.

You are right about Johnson and his responsibility but lacking a spine he’s not the man for the job he has.

It is her job to save the country from a bad bill. Pure and simple.
I disagree, her job is to represent the people who elected her and what they think of the bill matters not what you or I think.

He was exactly the man. He WANTS this.

He is a Christian Dominionist and one of those who believes that the federal government should be destroyed.

We'll agree to disagree.

If this is how you see a federalist system working, it is no wonder that it has failed.

Not to defend him, but it's so odd that in the US he is a pedophile and in Great Britain no crime was committed at all.
It's a good question. In the US, there are different laws in the various States about where the line where sexual conduct with a minor becomes statutory rape.

The rest of the story here is that the young girl was taken to the police station with bruises after she had been sexually assaulted by Rev McElrath. The girl, who was 17 years old had met up with the pastor at the church's high school. McElrath performed several sex acts with the young girl. Apparently, there was a history that dated back to when the girl was 14 years old. Investigators found over 39,000 text messages between the two and many of those text messages were sexually explicit. This is that "grooming" situation that drag queens are always accused of.

What makes this really troublesome is two factors: the 23 year age difference between the pastor and the girl, and the ecclesiastical relationship between the two parties. The pastor had sex with her at the church school, making it even more problematic.

In the US, we've had a series of large Christian denominations investigated for decades of sexually predatory behavior, and subsequent cover-up. We're talking thousands of pastors who have taken sexual advantage of men and women of all ages. The Catholic Church is the most famous but there was also a massive investigation into the Southern Baptist Church that uncovered hundreds of cases of pastors having sex with their congregants.

When I write up these stories about pastors, I don't have to look hard to find them. Within minutes, I find about 4-5 new stories about this kind of behavior. It's typically in Texas, Florida or Mississippi.

Yes, it is her job to save the country from a bad bill. She took an oath to the Constitution and the rule of law. Not an oath to get what I can for my state and fuck the whole rest of the country. But that's the republican way, isn't it. I got mine, screw everyone else.

She could have had some honor and integrity and voted to save the country from a disastrous bill that will harm millions of people and will ultimately harm her state as well.

She could have been "John McCain", but instead she chose to be Benedict Arnold.
She did not violate her oath. And the ‘I got mine screw everyone else’ mantra applies to many Americans not just republicans. Nothing says screw you better than closing the only hospital within 100 miles of where you live but most people hear that and say ‘not gonna effect me’ and mush on. I have 2 hospitals I could walk to near me so it’s not an issue for me but, like you I’m guessing, I do care about rural hospitals. It’s shocking to me that we can find doctors, nurses and staff to work in rural American hospitals but we’re too cheap to pay them.

You do have a point with the McCain analogy, she could have voted no and given a speech in the senate decrying all that’s wrong with the bill but I’m just not confident that’s what Alaska wants.

a non-porn image was altered by AI

AI law is evolving. Any child pornography based on the image of a real child is illegal. AI-generated images that are fully fake are at least theoretically not included in that legal determination. Some US jurisdictions have enacted laws criminalizing AI-generated child porn that have not yet been challenged at the federal level.

AI generated pornographic images of real children (deep fakes, in other words) are illegal. However, the law becomes murky in many states when the AI-generated materials are not based on a real child.

AI is hurtling us toward a child pornography crisis (The Hill; June 23, 2025)

The bill that just passed in Congress may have had a 10 year exclusion on AI regulation at the State level. That might pose an additional legal mess, especially if there's not a burden for investigators to prove that an image wasn't AI generated.

The State exclusion was in the original House bill and was alleged to have been removed in the Senate version. Since no one in the House read the bill before they voted on it, it's unclear whether the provision was removed before it passed the House today.
