And Let's not forget about the other Deplorables

The lectern was all set up in front of the camera with the students with their face masks all on standing right behind, then DeSantis comes along and chastises them with cameras rolling. It was a setup! Those kids were the only ones in the place wearing masks. Somebody had to have told them to keep theirs on. I liked how some of the kids did keep their masks on though...they weren't going to cave to do whatever the old white authoritarian guy told them to do. Good for them.

That's a good point. These things are highly staged, so it wouldn't surprise me if this were one of those things that some aide thought would be a good idea but didn't quite create the "optics" that they hoped that it would.

What I'm surprised about was that they found 6 teenagers who didn't say, "Go fuck yourself, boomer" to him.

Companies who have donated to Florida politicians who voted for the "Dont Say Gay" bill.

AT&T, yeah, not a surprise at all. But...PUBLIX??? Really??? I've always respected them as having excellent stores, but that's becoming questionable now...I mean, they're a Florida company for Chrissakes. It's not like they don't know what this is all about.

One of the heirs of Publix is a right wing fanatic. She gave a lot of money to the Stop the Steal grifts in 2020.

Publix is privately held company of which the Jenkins family is the controlling shareholder. Even though they are generous in stock options with employees, the Jenkins family is still the majority shareholder, making them one of the top 10 richest families in the US.

They are generous in their support of the communities where the are located. They are also located in a Republican-controlled state and they make campaign donations to curry favor with those politicians.

The problematic donor is Julie Jenkins Fancelli. She was one of the underwriters of the organization that sponsored the rally that preceded the Jan 6th insurrection. Allegedly she donated over half a million dollars to that rally.

More of the usual suspects:

House passes Emmett Till Anti-lynching Act with overwhelmingly bipartisan support [CNN]
Lawmakers passed the Emmett Till Anti-lynching Act on Monday in a 422-3 majority. A similar bill was first introduced by Democratic Rep. Bobby Rush of Illinois two years ago but was then blocked by the Senate in February 2020 following the murder of Ahmaud Arbery...

Only three Republican representatives voted against the bill: Andrew Clyde of Georgia, Thomas Massie of Kentucky and Chip Roy of Texas.

Senate passes Emmett Till Antilynching Act of 2022, sending bill to Biden for his signature [CNN]

It actually made it through the SENATE?? Oh, my God! I had such lowered expectations (because I'm aware of how often the football gets moved or taken away) that I didn't expect this to happen. I mean, even Boebert, McCarthy, MJT voted for it? Wow.

And, may I add, GOOD!! It's about time.

Well, of course, it's all our fault.

Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill, leader of Russia’s dominant religious group, has sent his strongest signal yet justifying his country's invasion of Ukraine — describing the conflict as part of a struggle against sin and pressure from liberal foreigners to hold “gay parades” as the price of admission to their ranks...

I wonder how many little boys he's molestered.

Somone needs to tell him we're far too busy with all those hurricanes and tornados, plus the odd volcano to fit Russia into the schedule just now.

If for no other reason, click on the link to get a gander at Mr. Jeebus. The flying nun headgear is precious - though the big golden one is quite spectacular.

"Unanimous consent". When the bill was called, no Senator objected. It's a way to avoid having specific Senators named in the Federal Register.

It goes on and on. The law applies, unless the law applies to him. Idiot.

North Carolina Rep. Madison Cawthorn charged with driving with revoked license [CNN]

North Carolina Rep. Madison Cawthorn is facing a charge of driving with a revoked license for the second time since 2017. The Class 3 misdemeanor charge, which could carry a maximum penalty of up to 20 days in jail, is one of three pending traffic citations against the Republican congressman in his home state.

Why the fuck doesn't someone just drop a house on MTG.
