The Catholic Archdiocese of San Francisco filed for bankruptcy. Was it because they gave away so much money to the poor and needy?

The Archdiocese of San Francisco has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy as it faces more than 500 lawsuits alleging child sexual abuse.

“The unfortunate reality is that the Archdiocese has neither the financial means nor the practical ability to litigate all of these abuse claims individually, and therefore, after much consideration, concluded that the bankruptcy process was the best solution for providing fair and equitable compensation to the innocent survivors who have been harmed,” Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone said in a Monday news release.

Meanwhile on the other side of the Bay:

Terry Reed, a registered sex offender, is accused of raping two teenage boys that he met through his in-home church, authorities said.

A pastor and registered sex offender convicted twice for sexually abusing minors is now facing new charges for allegedly raping two teenage boys, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.

Terry Reed, 63, whose church, Vessels of Christ Ministry, was operated out of his Terrytown home, preyed upon the victims, ages 15 and 16, sleeping in the nude with them and telling them the sexual activity with him would provide the teens the "covering of Jesus" and "help them become a man," according to Capt. Jason Rivarde, spokesperson for the Sheriff's Office.

A Valley Christian Schools staffer has been arrested for paying students for explicit photos and videos.

The Director of Operations of Valley Christian Schools has been accused of paying students for explicit photos and videos.

Todd Baldwin was found with explicit images of children, and further investigation revealed Baldwin had paid students for the content, according to the San Jose Police Department.

Baldwin was arrested Thursday and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail.

And the judge's ruling is in. Peter Navarro will go on trial next week for contempt of Congress for refusing to testify to the Jan 6th Committee. He cannot claim in court that "Trump made me do it. Executive privilege yada yada". He risks spending 2 years in prison if found guilty.

A federal judge ruled Wednesday that former Trump White House trade adviser Peter Navarro will be barred from telling a jury that executive privilege was part of his decision to not respond to a congressional subpoena from the now-defunct House select committee that investigated the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.

In a hearing Wednesday, Judge Amit Mehta said there was no evidence that former President Donald Trump had formally invoked the privilege to shield Navarro from testifying before Congress. The judge ruled Navarro can't use his contention that Trump asserted privilege as a defense at trial.
