Remember Michael Grimm? Two term US Congressperson from New York who represented Staten Island and parts of Brooklyn for 4 years between 2011-2015? Left Congress after being convicted of tax fraud and being sentenced to Federal prison for 8 months.

Still don't remember him? He was the guy who threatened a reporter who asked him a question in the Rotunda of the Capitol building, saying that he would throw him off the balcony?

In September of this year, Grimm was thrown from his polo horse, suffered a C4-C5 injury to his spine and is now paralyzed from the waist down.

Grimm, 54, suffered the devastating injury in September and is now being treated at the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in New Jersey, where the late actor Christopher Reeve was treated after a similar equestrian accident in 1995, according to Vincent Ignizio, a friend of Grimm’s who is a former New York City Council member.

Mr Grimm recently had been working as a pundit for NewsMax. It's unclear whether Mr Grimm has health insurance.

In one of life's ironies, Mr Grimm voted against the Affordable Care Act which provides low-cost health insurance and subsidized Medicare for those who are unable to obtain employer-sponsored group health insurance. Mr Grimm's friends have set up a GoFundMe which has raised over $650,000 for his rehabilitation and medical costs.
