Ex-missionary from Ohio charged with sexually abusing 4 children in Haiti

A former missionary with an Ohio-based ministry has been indicted on federal charges of engaging in illicit sexual conduct with four different minors in Haiti over multiple years

Jeriah Mast, 44, of Millersburg, Ohio, was indicted for alleged actions during his multiple visits to Haiti between 2002 and 2019. Mast — who according to authorities admitted to abusing about 30 victims in Haiti and more in Ohio — worked for part of that time for the Millersburg-based Christian Aid Ministries, which coordinates missionary activities for Amish, conservative Mennonite and related groups.

It marks the second court case against Mast, who was sentenced in Holmes County court in 2019 to nine years in prison after pleading guilty to sexually abusing two minors in Ohio.

Because the crimes were both domestic and international, the FBI and DOJ were involved.

More missionaries and megachurches...

Harvest Christian Fellowship is a megachurch in Riverside, California that is affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention. The church conducts services that have about 15,000 people in attendance each week. It has four separate locations across California and in Hawaii.

The ministers at the church are involved in a scandal involving sex trafficking of orphaned boys in Romania. Ministers Paul Havsgaard, Greg Laurie, and Richard Schutte are accused of sexual abuse, physical abuse and sex trafficking. In addition, Havsgaard's family members have accused him of decades of sexual exploitation and rape of family members.

12 men now accuse ex-Harvest pastor Paul Havsgaard of child sex abuse and trafficking

Six more men have filed federal lawsuits in the last week claiming they were sexually abused and trafficked by Paul Havsgaard, a former Harvest Christian Fellowship pastor, while living in now-defunct church-run children’s homes in Romania.

The number of filings — which also accuse the California megachurch's founder, Greg Laurie, and missions pastor Richard Schutte of negligence in failing to prevent the abuse and covering it up for 20 years — now stands at 12.

McAllister Olivarius, the law firm representing the men, said in a September news release that they expect to file complaints on behalf of 23 former residents of the homes.

Lawsuits accuse former California megachurch pastor of child sex abuse in Romania
The complaints detail sexual assault, inappropriate touching and abuse in which children were made to kneel on walnut shells or were tied to their beds.

A former Riverside megachurch pastor has been accused of sexually abusing and trafficking children for years at a shelter he ran in Bucharest, according to lawsuits filed by two Romanian men in U.S. District Court in California.

The complaints, filed Tuesday by 33-year-old Marian Barbu and 40-year-old Mihai-Constantin Petcu, said former Harvest Christian Fellowship pastor and missionary Paul Havsgaard severely abused them and dozens of other children at the shelter over eight years. The lawsuits also name the church’s founder and senior pastor, Greg Laurie, a well-known evangelist and author, as well as other senior church leaders, saying they failed to prevent abuse.

Romanian Survivors File Lawsuits Against California Megachurch and Pastor Greg Laurie Alleging Decades of Sexual Abuse and Cover-Up
22 September, 2025

Los Angeles – Survivors of child sexual abuse have filed lawsuits in U.S. federal court against one of America’s most prominent megachurches, Harvest Christian Fellowship of Riverside, California, and its nationally known leader Greg Laurie, alleging systematic negligence, sex trafficking violations and a 20-year coverup of rampant sexual abuse in the defendants’ operation of children’s homes in Romania. In total, 23 former residents of the homes will be bringing complaints.

The federal complaints detail how Paul Havsgaard, a long-time Harvest pastor and associate of Laurie, was sent by Laurie to Romania in 1998 to run Harvest-sponsored homes for vulnerable children. After attracting street kids with a McDonald’s meal and promises of safe shelter, he carried out sexual and physical abuse on an “industrial scale.” According to the complaints, church leaders in California failed basic tasks of supervision, yet profited from the money they raised through charitable appeals and the false impression that they were doing good works. The complaints allege that Havsgaard may be one of the most prolific child sexual predators alive in the United States today, responsible for thousands of individual acts of abuse.

The complaints relate that Havsgaard raped his own sisters when he was a teenager and sexually assaulted his foster daughter while a Harvest pastor. Despite repeated warnings and evidence of abuse, Laurie and his former missions pastor Richard Schutte kept Havsgaard in place in Romania with minimal oversight. Harvest deposited some $17,000 each month in Havsgaard’s personal bank account and did not require detailed accounts as he siphoned off funds to pay for gifts for his sexual favorites. In turn, Havsgaard returned to California frequently to raise money for Harvest and burnish its reputation, often with children in tow whom he sexually assaulted in California too.

November 18, 2025
After “it was discovered” that he had committed adultery, Pastor Samuel Renihan resigned from his California church and confessed to sin that he said will have “far-reaching” consequences. Renihan, 38, had been a pastor-elder at Trinity Reformed Baptist Church in La Mirada, California, since 2012. He has been married for almost 20 years and has one son.

Renihan’s publications include “Order and Honor in the Household” and “The Mystery of Christ, His Covenant, and His Kingdom.” The former pastor, who contributed to Ligonier Ministries, is the son of prominent Reformed Baptist Pastor James Renihan.

Head of local religious prison re-entry program sentenced for defrauding donors
Thomas Ostrosky stole more than $207,000 from The Lazarus Experience and its donors

The former leader of a local nonprofit that aimed to help people in prison re-enter society has now been sentenced for defrauding donors.

Judge Lindsay Navarre sentenced Thomas Ostrosky, 52, to serve at least ten years in prison, according to court filings on Dec. 2. He previously pleaded guilty to charges of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, theft from a person in a protected class, prohibited acts and practices for charities and telecommunications fraud.

Ostrosky was the executive director of The Lazarus Experience, which is no longer in operation. Ostrosky told 13abc back in 2021 it’s a program that works with incarcerated men to “try to bring them to the lord and create disciples of Jesus Christ within them, and help them through their re-entry transition back into the community.”

Of note, there's no Commandment against human trafficking and sexual exploitation!

Founder, former pastor of Far West Side church admits sexual assault of child

A former Christian pastor will spend up to two decades in prison after admitting to sexually abusing a child for years.

George Bell, 73, pleaded guilty on Nov. 5 to two counts of rape before Franklin County Common Pleas Court Judge Jeff Brown, who sentenced Bell to 15 to 20 years in prison.

Bell, the former pastor of Anchor Baptist Church on Columbus' Far West Side, resigned from his position in June 2024. Bell founded the church in 1989.

A grand jury indicted Bell in November 2024 in the assaults, which occurred between 2021 and June 2024 while the child was under the age of 10. Court records say the assaults did not involve a member of Bell's congregation.

They also say the incidents happened at the church, the victim's home, and inside Kemper's vehicle.

Sheriff: Former pastor charged with human trafficking, sexual abuse of two teens
A Mooresville pastor faces more than a dozen felony charges related to sexual abuse allegations involving two teens following an investigation by the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.

Luis Alberto Sosa, 50, of Wood Acre Drive, Mooresville, has been taken into custody in Florida and will be extradited to Iredell County, Sheriff Darren Campbell said Wednesday in a news release.

The ICSO Special Victims Unit opened an investigation on August 12 after Detective R. Olson received information related to multiple sex offenses involving two minors that occurred in May of 2002 and between April and June of 2008, Campbell said. The victims, both Argentinian nationals, were between the ages of 13 and 17 at the time of the offenses and were part of a religious ministry led by Sosa, who was serving as a missionary pastor from Argentina at the time, according to the news release.

Suburban megachurch sued over alleged sexual abuse by youth leader; pastor accused of cover-up

A man alleges in a lawsuit that he was molested as a boy by a Chapelstreet Church youth leader at the evangelical congregation based in Geneva. Despite telling the interim lead pastor years ago about the misconduct, nothing was done, and another child was then sexually abused, the lawsuit says.

Don Vanthournout is also accused in the lawsuit of abusing another boy from a different suburban Protestant church years earlier, though that second alleged victim is not a plaintiff in the suit.

The complaint states that Chapelstreet’s interim lead pastor, Brian Coffey, knew Vanthournout was a danger to kids but allowed him to keep playing a role within the church — which facilitated more sexual abuse.

This guy.

Update: the remains found in the burned home have been preliminarily identified as Dr McDonough. It appears that after pleading not guilty to the CSAM charges on Friday, he set fire to his home. Hopefully, his wife will get a refund on the bail money?

Dr McDonough is the latest deplorable from Wasilla, a town with a population of only 9,000 people that seems to produce a disproportionate number of deplorables, nevertheless.

One more...

An Orange County man who operated a youth fitness center and led a Bible study group was arrested for suspected child abuse.

The suspect was identified as Cameron Taylor Heath, 39, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

In October, deputies investigated a report that a young boy had allegedly been sexually abused by Heath, who was the family’s bible study group leader, a few years earlier.

The victim was 12-13 years old at the time of the alleged abuse, authorities said. Heath was actively involved in several community and faith-based organizations at the time.

Republican congressional candidate confronts Democratic rival with prison-themed gift bag at event

A Democratic congressional candidate who’s under federal indictment for her actions during a protest against the immigration crackdown was given an unwelcome, prison-themed gift bag by a Republican rival Sunday at a suburban campaign event.

Ninth District Democratic hopeful Kat Abughazaleh of Chicago was confronted by fellow candidate Rocio Cleveland, an Island Lake Republican, at a meet-and-greet featuring many candidates at the Tikvah Center for Jewish Recovery and Healing in Northbrook.

Cleveland handed Abughazaleh a small, red bag and then removed and described each item in the bag. They included a toothbrush Cleveland said Abughazaleh would need “once you are in prison … to protect yourself.” Inmates have been known to use sharpened toothbrushes as weapons.

Cleveland also included a bottle that she said was filled with "holy water", saying that Abughazaleh "needed to be baptized". Abughazaleh is a Palestinian-American who was raised in an interfaith household but doesn't identify with any particular religious affiliation. The event was at a Jewish community center, making Cleveland's behavior even more offensive.

Terry Hall, a Turning Point Church of God minister from Illinois got a pandemic loan in the name of his church and then he put $199,900 of the $200,000 relief money into his personal bank account. He used the money to pay his mortgage, on vacation travel and to build a barn on his own property.

Former southern Illinois pastor sentenced to prison for fraudulently obtaining COVID-19 relief money in church’s name

BENTON, Ill. – A district judge sentenced a former church pastor in Hamilton County to 21 months’ imprisonment for obtaining COVID-19 money from the SBA by fraudulently representing to the SBA that the money would be used for his church.

Terry L. Hall, 58, of McLeansboro, pleaded guilty to two counts of wire fraud and three counts of making false statements. Following imprisonment, he will serve two years of supervised release. Hall was ordered to pay $199,900 plus the accrued interest back to the Small Business Administration.

“The vast majority of pastors across southern Illinois answered the pandemic with selfless service,” said U.S. Attorney Steven D. Weinhoeft. “Terry Hall chose a different path: he requested federal relief on behalf of his congregation, then used nearly $200,000 for purely personal expenses. Conduct that far from the calling of ministry demands accountability, and accountability arrived in the form of a 21-month federal prison sentence.”

And eventually, it catches up with them...

Timothy Dolan, the archbishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of New York since 2009, who has been a vocal supporter of Donald Trump was forced to resign by Pope Leo.

Pope Pushes Out Trump’s Favorite Catholic Leader

Cardinal Timothy Dolan is being replaced as the head of New York’s Catholic archdiocese.

Pope Leo is replacing pro–Trump Cardinal Timothy Dolan as New York’s archbishop in a major shake-up of the Catholic Church in the U.S.

The first-ever American pope has accepted the resignation of Dolan, a prominent figure known for engaging in culture wars, and has appointed the relatively unknown Illinois-based Bishop Ronald Hicks in his place.

Replacing Dolan as leader of the nation’s second-largest Catholic diocese marks a potentially seismic shift in the direction Pope Leo wants to take the Church.

Why? Maybe this kind of stuff might be part of the reason why:

NY Archdiocese inks $490M real estate deal for sex abuse survivors' fund

The Archdiocese of New York says it has agreed to sell the land beneath the Palace Hotel on Manhattan’s East Side to the hotel owner for $490 million — part of a real estate haul meant to fund a global settlement for church sex abuse survivors.

The deal became public just days after Cardinal Timothy Dolan announced the archdiocese would establish a $300 million fund to compensate survivors of sexual abuse as it seeks to negotiate a settlement with more than 1,000 people who allege they were abused as minors by priests and other church officials.

“The sexual abuse of minors long ago has brought shame upon our Church,” Dolan said in a letter to parishioners, adding the church was now looking to “provide the maximum amount of compensation to the greatest number of victim-survivors, and help them heal and move forward.”

Officials confirmed part of the Palace sale would go to that fund, and the remainder would repay loans taken to fund previous settlements.

Finally. Dolan gone. Some good news. I'll bet that this has been months in the orchestration.

One of the most insidiously powerful and far right wing conspirators in the US Catholic Church will hopefully be sidelined and sequestered for good.

If not, he still represents an existential threat to Leo's papacy though.

It is interesting how Leo has been refocusing the Church on the social ministry and the Beatitudes from the Sermon on the Mount.

Pope Francis said the right things but didn't seem to want to rock the boat. Pope Leo isn't a wilting violet and so far, he seems set on cleaning up some of the leadership that is part of the rot.

Eagleman is always a shit stain...but he represents that staggering hypocrisy of all the MAGAt voters who whined all through 2024 about their fear of US involvement in
unecessary wars.

Remember all that faux outrage over antisemitism on "liberal" college campuses?

This time the call is coming from inside the house. :corn:

Members of the MAGA faithful gathered here Thursday to kick off Turning Point USA’s America Fest, the largest meeting for the organization since its founder, Charlie Kirk, was shot to death on a Utah college campus in September.

Despite that somber backdrop, the event quickly devolved into a spectacle of MAGA infighting.

Ben Shapiro, the first speaker after widow Erika Kirk, ripped into those who would take the same stage in the coming hours and days. He called out conservative commentators, blasting Candace Owens, Tucker Carlson, Megyn Kelly and Steve Bannon as “frauds and grifters.”

“The conservative movement is in serious danger,” Shapiro said, arguing the danger is not just on the left, but “from charlatans who claim to speak in the name of principle but actually traffic in conspiracism and dishonesty.”

He called Bannon “a PR flack for Jeffrey Epstein” ahead of the imminent release of files related to the late convicted sex offender, while praising President Donald Trump and his administration’s handling of the issue. Trump pushed to stop Republicans in Congress from voting to release the files, though he signed the legislation once it was passed. Both Bannon and Trump appear in photos with Epstein that were released by House Democrats.

I have enjoyed reading about the shit show at TPUSA so much as they all fight over control of the neo-nazi movement.

Especially the Fuentes v Shapiro slaggings. And the calling out of the grifters making their livings off the hate industry. (They are all grifters, of course).

I don't suppose they allow guns in their convention space?

Meanwhile, this is an official message. They don't even bother with the pillowcase over the head any more.

And another not-a-drag-queen pastor... and the abuse goes back 40 years.

Longtime children's pastor Joe Campbell arrested on child sex abuse charges
The former Assemblies of God minister was indicted in Oklahoma after an NBC News investigation revealed decades of missed warnings.

Joe Campbell, a Pentecostal preacher who for half a century ministered to thousands of children across four states, has been arrested on child sex abuse charges, the Oklahoma Attorney General’s Office said Wednesday.

Campbell was charged with one count of first-degree rape and one count of lewd or indecent acts to a child under 16, according to the charging document. U.S. marshals arrested him Wednesday morning at Camp Bell, his children's camp in Elkland, Missouri, and took him to the Greene County jail in Springfield, where he was awaiting transfer to Oklahoma. If convicted, he faces up to life in prison.

It wasn’t clear whether Campbell, 68, had an attorney. He couldn’t immediately be reached for comment. His arrest is a long-delayed breakthrough in a 40-year effort by some of his alleged victims to seek justice.

Elise Stefanik. Former-moderate Republican from upstate NY turned MAGA-because-it-will-get-me-more-power House member with a BA from Harvard. She was elected to Congress in 2014 as a moderate but she quickly figured out which way the wind was blowing, so she became full-on-MAGA and got a Republican House leadership role in 2021 after Liz Cheney was booted from leadership for supporting the second impeachment of Donald Trump.

Stefanik was nominated to be UN Ambassador in 2025, but got sent back to the House so that Mike Johnson could keep his majority. Stefanik lost her Republican House leadership role when she got sent back to Congress.

She's basically JD Vance with slightly bigger tits.

Her days in the House might be coming to an end. She's in a battle with Mike Johnson over a Trump-suckup bill to make it easier for Congress to leak information about investigations into the President and to slow down the process of investigating bad deeds by Presidential candidates.

Now she's trying to be governor of New York. For her loyal service, she now has a primary challenger. Trump won't endorse her because he's afraid she can't win her primary.

Kathy Hochul, the current Democratic governor of NY is not particularly popular. But she's leading Stefanik in the polls by over 20 points.
Another casualty. So sad. 😭

Elise Stefanik has withdrawn as Republican primary candidate for governor after Trump endorsed another Republican candidate for the primary. Rumors are that Stefanik is also planning on leaving Congress to "spend more time with family" after she stole lost Liz Cheney's former House Republican leadership position.

Stefanik exits New York governor's race after Trump stays neutral and worries flare about a bitter primary

Update: President Trump on Saturday endorsed Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman for governor.
