Another Hollywood celebrity to come out on May 5th [Chely Wright]

John Rich has issued a public apology to Chely Wright for the homophobic comment(s) he made to her several years ago.

Chely claims: “[John] said, ‘You’re not gay are you?!’ I said, ‘No, John, I’m not.’ He said, ‘Good, thank God.’ And that began a spiral for me. I had a meltdown shortly after that.”

Here's his apology...
I would never pass judgment on any friend of mine. I feel awful that, at this time in Chely’s life, my decade old comment – ‘Good, thank God’ – was taken the wrong way. I was clumsily trying to express my relief that even a country boy like me had a one-in-a-million chance of having a beer with a woman as talented and attractive as Chely. For years after that conversation, Chely invited me to perform at charity events. In all that time, I wish she would have said something directly to me before the book’s publicity tour, especially since some of the comments attributed to me in the book are not mine. But I am happy for her and only wish her the best in her personal and professional life.
He can claim she misunderstood his words 'til he's blue in the face, but I'm not buying it -- not after THESE comments he made a few years ago on Steve Gill's radio show...
I think if you legalize gay marriage, you've got to legalize some other things that are pretty unsavory. You can call me a radical, but how can you tell an aunt that she can't marry her nephew if they are really in love and sharing the bills? How can you tell them they can't get married, but something else that's unnatural can happen?

I think its the fact that no one knows who she is, so they just don't fucking care.

I just noticed when I wrote "hot studs" it lets you click on that and takes you to an adult site?! How does that happen? Like, if you hit the "right" phrase that will happen on here? I don't like that.

Still. I hate to think that women just have it easier because they're seen as the weaker species in this male dominated world... while men run scared to come out. The two combined reek havoc on my psyche.

Me too. And I'm a woman. Weirdly enough, most heterosexuals seem to be so intimidated by male sexuality (penis jokes don't count). I suppose that has to do with male dominance--that men can't ever be thought of sexually lest they are reduced to being objectified as women are. If a woman turns out to be gay, it's okay (in the straight male-dominated society) because women are still being thought of as sexually attractive. But if a man turns out to be gay, we're horrified because men...being thought of as more sexually attractive than women? Blasphemy!

Which is why I love gay men.

LOL Excellent point! Kudos for your response!

Just a thought but is it possible the acceptance level is

so much higher because lesbians (as a rule) are not the uhm

uh...well, not the Threat to the male anus as a gay male can

be perceived to be? ](*,)

Heeey, don't make me get my strap-on out on you...

Sorry Maa'm,

Only the Dr. on an ANnuAL basis is ever going there. Ever.

I think you have a point there, Lefty. As viewed by str8 male society man sex has an implied rape/violation sense to it. That's not what "real men" want. Lezzie sex, on the other hand is ok because they're just wanting what all str8 men are wanting. Plus no strap on or Energizer powered member could compete with a real, live stud, now could it(sarcasm there)? And a guy could join in with them and they'd never be able to resist(more sarcasm)said stud.

Has anyone bought/read her book? Even though I'm not happy with how this all turned out, I might actually be interested in reading what she has to say - provided it focuses alot on her homosexuality. I think it might be an interesting story, about her ups and downs and finally accepting herself in a VERRYY heterosexual environment. And I think she had a gun at her head at one point. Maybe I'm just interested because I can relate.

If it's about her career/bio then it's a waste of time in my opinion... How could she not write a bio w/o talking about her GAYNESS though?

I must say I'm proud of her ... coming out in a predominately male and some might say a little conservative area is a bit more risky then a Hollywood actor doing the same. She has strength and fortitude and I am glad she did what she felt was best.

However, what I am disappointed in is the lack of compassion by fellow jubbers simply because she was not their wet little fantasy actor who they had hoped and prayed for it to be.

I think more JUBers would have been receptive if she had actually been a person of note.

Somehow, I think that even conservative males wouldn't be too opposed to an attractive woman coming out as a lesbian. If she'd looked like K.D. Lang, people would be screaming, "F***ing dyke!" at her, but from the reactions I've seen so far, it's been generally, "Good for her...I wonder if her girlfriend is hot, too? And could I watch?"

Yeah, that was crass, but I wonder if she'd have been as positively recieved had she been a more "butch" lesbian or a man.
