Another Obama lie: Raising taxes on Middle Class

You're absolutely right, Toriko, and your point of view brings to mind the drawbacks of the much-touted National Sales Tax.

Already, the poorest are getting hit the hardest with states sales taxes, but you will find a lot of wealthy people pushing the idea of a National Sales Tax as a viable replacement to the Income Tax. What they won't tell you is that a National Sales Tax, besides being terribly unreliable to the national budget, is cruelly regressive....

If, perchance, you are referring to HR 25 - The Fair Tax amendment, you are totally wrong.

The so-called 'poor' are totally protected from the normal regressiveness of a sales tax.

By "productive single Americans", what you really mean is "wealthy", and they are assessed at about 32% without any deductions—a situation which is rare.

Wrong yet again.

Productive and wealthy do not always go hand in hand.

Plenty of small business owners are very productive - they provide 80% of the jobs being created in this country. Some, but by no means all, of them may be wealthy.

On the other hand, people who live on the income from trust funds may be very wealthy on paper, yet produce nothing.

Got it?

Put a consumption tax in and they'd have to tighten their belts more and would have more incentive to do things that actually help the economy. What they're doing now is basking in the spoils of power.

I don't see why a consumption tax would force the government to 'tighten their belts' any more than the current tax system does.

You make it sound like they only spend what they collect which is far from the case.

For all I know such a tax will only mean they will borrow more money which is something I'm against. Cutting tax has failed to reduce the size of government I doubt this tax would show any more success.

While I am not American and have no vested interest whatsoever in the main vein of this thread I do want to say that the quoted post is representative of one of the most despicable views on politics. To reduce an entire group of people (read: republican voters) to people who simply don't want to pay taxes is beyond reprehensible and was disgusting enough for me to make the effort to post against it. I hated Bush just as much as I hate Obama. American presidents, as they go, tend to be rubbish in general so this has nothing to do with me supporting either political party (which are of course in essence identical but Americans seem to think differently).

The point though, is that this is the EXACT same type of attitude that led to the holocaust and other major genocides in our history. Reducing any one group of people to any one defining trait dehumanizes them and takes away any element of individuality. I don't think JohannBessler that you would like it if someone said that all lefties are lefties because they want to raise taxes in order to pay off their cronies or that all lefties are lefties because they're secretly anti-semitic Israel haters. Although it is certainly true that many republicans dont like paying taxes (I doubt most democrats enjoy it but we'll ignore that hole in your argument for now) it isn't true of all of them and it is absolutely absurd to suggest that this is THE reason they vote as they do. Similarly, the stereotypes of lefties are just as valid, they are prevalent traits of the left but it is hardly defining or the absolute for the group.

You need to get knocked off your high horse and start treating other people as human beings before your unsaddled hatred spreads and we end up with another genocide against all republicans. I mean, people in Canada get pretty stupid when they're attacking political parties they don't like but I've never seen anyone be that stupid? On another note, I have noticed that the left to a far greater degree makes an effort to demonize the right. While the right will dismiss the left as being incapable of handling an economy, or unable to handle national security (not true, but this is what they say) the left will make such outrageous and vile claims. I never heard a right-winger call a left winger the devil or a baby eater or suggest that a leftist LIKES war because he LIKES to kill or shed blood for oil etc. It's so incredibly untrue and smacks of such desperation to find some way to make the other guy look bad. It's actually this precise trait that led me to stop voting for the lefties here in Canada, I couldn't handle the idiocy and the attitude which JohanBessler has exemplified so perfectly,

lol, Alfie. I wouldn't go THAT far.

I'm just trying to hear HR admit the truth that he despises paying taxes and will go to any length to avoid paying them. That's the major reason righties are righties, you know, but few of them will admit it.

Here's how the psychology goes: many of them have worked their fingers to the bone all their lives, have built up a comfortable nest egg by sometimes working two jobs, or going to school while working a full-time job, in order to get what they got.

It just doesn't seem fair to them that the government wants to come around to take it all—especiallly to feed a fuckin' Welfare Ho with ten children who's too damn lazy to work. It's almost like theft to them.

I can see their point of view, but it's refreshing to meet righties who will just come right out and admit all this—but it's not very common.

No offense Alfie, but you're really going to lengths to try and pull something out of my post that is not actually there. It's amazing that even though my post was politico-neutral you managed to take it as an attack on your precious hero and respond with your political garbage. I never said all lefties do this or that no righties do that, nor did I claim that one trait defines all people in a specific group so no, you're dead wrong I didn't do what I accused him of. Using Bill O'reilly as an example of the right is also just plain dumb. He represents an extreme which I doubt most righties identify with. Even so, tiller the killer is very different than the sort of thing I was referring to. Not knowing anything about Dr. Tiller, who he was, or the comment you're alleging I won't comment further on that.

I'm finished with you.

Since you seem to be more arrogant than your beloved president and on account of your blind hatred and antagonistic nature I'd be glad if you not respond to me again. I think, judging by what I've read thus far that many folks feel the same way.

Jav, the people who promote this kind of tax are often brilliant with numbers; Henry Reardon, for example, was a life-long accountant—an occupation filled with people with an average IQ of 130. .

Another sweeping generalization. Got some proof to back that stupidity up?

BTW one doesn't get accepted into Mensa with an IQ of 130.
