Another porn actor commits suicide

I just read that one of my idols in porn, Macanao Torres, took his own life on December 29th.
He stopped doing porn in 2016 when he was diagnosed with a rare health condition.

Is his "rare health condition" some derivative disease that is a result of AIDS?

Even if it is not, perhaps the headline isn't that a gay porn star committed suicide, but that a terminally ill man did. The two are different stories.

In either case, condolences to those who loved him.

I'm quite ignorant in medicine, but I understand his problem was a rare type of cancer. The doctors gave him only 10 more years.
You're right, he was a terminally ill man... who happened to do porn before. So I'm not surprised that a gay magazine uses "porn" in the headline.

I only raise the issue for a couple of reasons.

In the porn industry, there is some pressure to deny the impact of AIDS. They spend a lot of energy talking about testing and safe sex, and it obviously doesn't play well when an actor actually contracts AIDS and doesn't live happily ever after.

It's certainly plausible that Torres contracted HIV and then AIDS, with the rare cancer a symptom of his defeated immune system. All speculation, admittedly.

But, if he was terminal, his worsening health and pending death would be the more likely cause of his suicide, rather than any implication that he was unhappy with having been a porn actor.

There are biases against different narratives.

He actually campaigned within the industry against the relaxation of safe sex in porn.

If he was suffering from AIDS, it's all the more tragic if he had been a safe sex advocate.

I had a close friend in Albuquerque who claimed he hadn't had unprotected sex, but in fact contracted HIV and had no other exposure (no transfusions, etc.)

There's still a lot of shame in the HIV world, regardless of the general change in treatments and life expectancy.

It's more likely that he had HHV8 or Castleman disease. It's a complication of HIV infection.

There are 6 versions of the video that I watched. I dont know which one I watched. Theone I watched had a 20% suicide rate (someone said it was probably due to them having AIDS)

wow - that is some cold hearted shit - funerals or memorials are for the living - to provide a venue to pay respect - honor friendships and relationships - and mourn losses - if it's being abandoned then it is only by the self absorbed
