/\ You've never heard of the WiFi controlled vibrating butt-plugs?

Surely one can set one up to buzz whenever someone on TV says a certain word.

One trick of getting a non-smart TV might be to use a computer monitor. Obviously, a lot of basic functionality goes away (like the TV tuner), and one would need something to connect to the monitor that has a compatible connector. These days it would be, say, a DVD player with HDMI connection. You wouldn't get a big screen. There may be some gotchas I'm unaware of. But I've done this trick with a DVD player connected to a monitor, and it worked for me.
One problem in using a spare computer monitor (or even one already hooked up to a computer -- but switching to a different HDMI port on the monitor) is that you need a speaker of some sort. I didn't hook up a dvd player to a spare monitor, but plugged in a streaming stick (like a Roku stick). It worked to get the picture but then I realized I didn't have a way to get the sound. If speakers are built into the monitor, then I think that would work.

Or else learn to lip read what the TV show actors are saying.

In my case, I run the audio through my audio system. I figure it's there and might as well be used. Although this approach is workable because the DVD player does have dedicated audio outputs, so the lack of audio ability in my computer monitor is not a problem.

I merely looked at a new Estwing hammer at the local hardware store last week and now I am inundated with ads. "There's something happenin' here. What it is ain't exactly clear."

I'm happy so far that me registering my new water heater online hasn't resulted in a deluge of ads or offers. There was a little notice on the registration page that said something like, "You're OUR customer; we don't sell or give your info to anyone else!" I like that attitude.

I was in a meeting today and popped open my laptop at the client's offices and this evening I see the email ads for their parent company.

mmmmmkay.

It could be coincidence. mmmmmmmmmaybe
