Another shooting, another 10 youth killed, and where is the Republican reaction?

An enlightening article on gun owners in the United States...worth the read:

http://www.theguardian.com/world/vi...guns-yoga-ammo-and-lgbt-rights-video#comments

I quote:

With more than 310m guns in the US, not all owners are alike. These three progressive gun owners fall into the middle of the political spectrum and break the mold of traditional gun ownership in the states.
Kristin Beck is a transgender woman running as an underdog for US Congress, Kurt Mausert is a Hare Krishna devotee and attorney and Chris Cheng is a professional marksman and former Google employee. Although they make up a clear minority in the states, progressive firearms owners are willing to consider new approaches to gun control

Let's start by stopping people from coming into the U.S. with guns.

The second any gun registration scheme is realized I might just have to have a 'tragic boating accident'.

It's ok, nothing will change. More lives will be lost because you care about the second amendment more than you care about human lives.

If they made it a felony to sell a gun to someone who wouldn't pass a background check, then the transaction that would cause the buyer to be an offender need never happen.

A simple procedural clarification would suffice, but gun shops naturally wouldn't like that.

When Clinton was claiming that a hundred thousand felons had been stopped from obtaining guns because they failed the background check, it was gun shop owners rolling their eyes and asking why he hadn't put anything in the law to allow them to hold those felons for arrest for trying to buy a gun!

Why you want to make a law that wouldn't change anything... well, just pass a law deputizing gun shop owners to arrest felons trying to buy guns. You'd see an enthusiastic response that would scare felons into staying off even the sidewalk in front of gun shops!

You surely mean WITHOUT guns. Your party approves of more guns. Silly.

No, he means with guns. People here are supposed to buy their guns from good American businesses!

Though there have been a number of guns the BATFE handed to Mexican drug cartels that have come back in and been used to murder Americans; they came from the U.S., so maybe they're okay (Obama certainly seems to have no complaint).

Actually most NRA members care far more about human lives than any politician. We just want laws that will do something, and are constitutional. Background checks, especially when the law is written to let felons who try to buy guns just walk away, accomplish nothing except to spend government money and hassle law-abiding citizens.

Congress has the authority to provide for the discipline of the militia. We're all the militia -- "the whole people", as the Founders put it. A militia that leaves guns accessible to criminals is not disciplined, so let's start by requiring safe storage of all guns not in use -- with a tax credit for acquiring/implementing such storage.

Meanwhile, address the other end of the mass shooting equation: get out mental health care system in order... or, I should say, build a mental health care system, because what we have doesn't count.

In potential scope for regulation. Is it possibly a good idea to restrict the number of guns that a single person is allowed to own. Maybe something like 3 per person max, regardless of type of weapon. My reasoning is that it would help to cut down gun numbers without affecting a person's right to own. It may be a good idea too since some people hold arsenals of weapons, which is potentially a lot of weapons finding their way into the criminal market should they be robbed.

ANY sensible solutions to cut down mass shootings MUST be focussed on regulations on firearms in general, not simply targetting felons. It is not felons who are typically carrying out these most serious sprees. And on that note, since i expect that mental health care would be used as a diversive to the biggest problem, proliferation, that it is a very good idea to invest in mental health services, but you should also bear in mind that you can't do a lot about mental health issues where the issue is say, anger management. You kinda have to snap BEFORE you're noticed , before that issue is approached upon.

I assume you're blaming Canadians... Again!

I'm sure he wouldn't be directly.

Everybody knows that Canada is just a gateway. With their more relaxed borders, it is easier to smuggle them from the UK. They enter Britain via the Aussies who set up bars over here as a front for gun-trafficking. And where do the Aussies, get them?

Yeah, you think the world doesn't know what you guys are doing tucked away in the South Pacific. Well i'm onto ya buddy!! You aint got me fooled by them sheep that we see on satellite. Fluffy white sacks of ammo strewn around the place ready for the taking. :grrr:

The problem with the pro-gun crowd is they don't want anything that inconveniences them when it comes to gun regulation. I don't see a problem with background checks for "Law Abiding Citizens" because clearly the only problem with a background check is if you are not one.

Also the "Mental Health Problem" being a driving point by most pro-gun people and Politicians is odd to me because generally most of these folks are against Healthcare being available to everyone. Another problem with Mental Health being a problem is that it is not like it is something people all inherently have. A lot of times these things develop over time and like Mitchymo pointed out, some people just snap.

A part of the solution is regulation, but people are so self adsorbed that they don't want that. They care about themselves more than others.

Also I'd like to mention that thank god a school shooting plan was stopped by Police in California. It has not even been a fucking week and another one could have already happened.

Crazy people tend to want guns more than anyone.
And they vote. Nothing quite as wholesome as whipping up fear and paranoia in people who are already unwell and making sure they've got easy access to assault weapons.
