Anthony's Odyssey

HAPPY 21, Anthony!! :band: --%-- :=D: (!w!)

*SIGH!* Supposedly our government is "Of the People, By the People, and FOR the People". Of course, we know that's not always the case, which is why we have to keep trying to make it so. Ideally, those in public office are there to serve US. They supposedly work for US. We are the ones paying them. Their prime directive is supposed to be to Serve, and Protect US (including from ourselves when necessary).

The power they have is what we grant them. In theory, the laws that are written, and passed, are there to assure they carry out their duties, to the best of their abilities, in OUR interests. They are where they are by the consent of the governed.

As with all humans, power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Some become addicted to it. Some will do Anything to keep that power. It is up to US to watch, and be vigilant, that they do what they're supposed to do, and not use that power for personal gain, and other interests in conflict with the good of society in general. That includes Public SAFETY.

There are those that will use, and abuse, the trust they have been appointed to watch over the people. It's up to us to decide if we want to be used, and abused, or taken care of. That guy (or gal) sitting in The Oval Office holds the most powerful position on the planet. The one in there now said he wasn't taking any responsibility, and it was all up to the governors. Yes, you can thank him for what's happening in PA. The only one he's watching out for is himself.

I could go on about the virus, and how contagious, and dangerous, it is. I could talk about public safety. I could talk about our adult responsibilities to our fellow citizens. I could argue that the best way to watch out for ourselves is by watching out for all of those around us. I could argue there is not quality of life without life itself.

The fight is to contain, and eventually defeat, the virus, because it is a threat to the people. Unfortunately, it transmits itself through the people, so the only way of containing it is to isolate the people that it has infected. If we had adequate testing, we could do that. However, since we don't (and I'm not going to get into why we could, but don't), the only current option is to keep everyone apart, so not everybody gets caught by, and sickened with it.

*SIGH!* I didn't intend to get into all of that, and there's a Lot more I could continue with. Though I'm not done, I'm gonna stop ...

You're a "newly minted" adult, now. Peppermint Schnapps is an excellent choice, as far as "minting" goes. (UU)

Wishing You, and yours, all of the Very Best! (group)

The one talking point that pisses me off is that people want the government shut down through a certain Tuesday in November? OK, really? So that explains this Country maybe . . . . . if you believe that nonsense, but then why is almost every other Country taking similar measures and why are so many of them handling this so much better then the US? So the entire world organized a fake pandemic just to win Joe Biden an election? I mean, please tell me you are not that brainwashed. We can disagree all day about how long stay at home orders should last, best practices, but please stop making this a political partisan issue, because its just not that.

Happy Birthday, Anthony. You're only 21 once and it is a major milestone. Enjoy your youth and make the most of it, like I know you will. You are an exceptional young man for sure. If Ash is as hot as that guy you gave us a link to at post #38, damn, I'd be sitting on that log every night and sucking it dry when I could. Whew! Glad your mom's vertigo is gone finally. It's a shame she had to go through therapy twice to be cured, but thankfully, she is finally cured. That has to be a load off her mind. Can't say I like peppermint schnaps, but it's liquor and liquor is fine, especially these days. BC

Summer is definitely beginning to make it's entrance, though it doesn't officially start until the Solstice, which is June 20 this year. It got up to 83° in Milwaukee today! That is not usual for May in Wisconsin.

We put up the picnic table's umbrella, and fired up the grill. The neighbors on both sides were out grilling, too. The ones to the south brought out their speakers, and turned up the music for everyone to enjoy. Everyone stayed in their own yards, though.

The smells of lighter fluid, charcoal smoke, and sizzling brats, burgers, and ribs filled the air. At times, puffs of gray smoke would hazily waft up into the bright blue sky, perhaps trying to join their cousins, the leisurely drifting white clouds.

One of the neighbors shouted over that they thought they saw smoke coming from our attic. We laughed, and said, "Yeah? Good one!" But, they said they weren't kidding. As we looked up at the attic window, we saw the first flicker of flame. Oh, SHIT!

The fire trucks were here within 5 min. of our 911 call. Though the fire hydrant is out front, and across the street, they had hoses snaking around back in no time. Some of them ran inside, and upstairs with fire extinguishers.

Our attic is the back half of the second story, and unfinished. The roof beams, planks, walls and floor are all exposed 100 yr. old wood. With a 10 ft. ladder, your can look to the front of the house, along the space between the finished area's insulated ceilings, and the gables of the roof. Apparently the flames had swirled up into there, too. It was too much for the few carried extinguishers.

I have no idea how many gallons of water were sprayed into the attic spaces. Thankfully, they didn't have to chop any holes in the roof, and they put the fire out relatively quickly. However, the two upstairs bedrooms, hallway, and bathroom were drenched, and some ceiling plaster fell down. There was enough water to be dripping from the downstairs ceilings, soaking everything everywhere, too. Though saved, our whole house is now a soggy, mushy, mess. The water damage is extensive. I'm expecting to have to have mold mitigation in the walls. Appliances and electronics were also shorted out.

Thankfully, we're insured. However, I suspect that's not going to cover everything. Since we're in a historic district, everything has to be restored, not simply repaired/replaced. I'm sure there are limits, hidden with our policy's small print. I'm not sure what the hell we're going to do, or if we'll be able to ever completely recover at all.

We're going to sue the mayor and the city! The fire guys didn't ask permission before they flooded the place! They just barged in and destroyed everything! How dare they trample all over us like that! Damn them!! And, I can picture His Excellency, the mayor, rubbing his power hungry hands together, as he glares out over his desk, basking in reflective delight at the damage he was able to preside over! After all, it was his fire department! Yeah! It's all His fault!

O.K. Only the first three paragraphs are true. The rest, with the exception of the house description, is all made up sensational bullshit, with no basis in reality whatsoever.

I think it should be obvious why I'm going to the trouble of writing this. I'm doing it because I care. I'm hoping I've successfully illustrated my point.

Anthony, as a fully legal adult, you are now responsible for everything you do, and say. There are consequences to All of your actions. It's entirely up to You, and only You, what you choose to put out into the world, and what you're going to live by. I urge you to make those choices to the best of your objective abilities, intellectually and physically. What, and who, you influence, and/or allow to influence you, is now solely Your responsibility.

May you make your choices wisely. They matter more than ever now. You own them. They will follow, and shape, the rest of Your life.

Happy belated 21st Birthday Anthony. Glad to hear your Mom is doing better and doesn't have Vertigo any longer. That is the most important news you posted.

Chaz so grateful no one got hurt from the fire. Possessions can be replaced a person cannot.

Brian

Dear Sweet Brian.

I want to make it perfectly clear, to You, and everyone else, that the fire I described did NOT actually happen. I made that part up in an attempt to prove a point to Anthony. I sincerely apologize if I may have caused You any undue concern.

The fire was a euphemism for the corona virus, that began by first being taken as a hoax. The firemen were first-line responders, and the few extinguishers were the lack of PPE. The crawl space above the second floor rooms was everywhere the virus can spread before being detected. The exposed wood beams were unsuspecting victims of a highly contagious, deadly infection. The water was shutting down the economy in order to control the fast moving danger, and prevent further damage to the house, which was society in general. And, of course, the mayor was Gov. Wolf, as Anthony has so vividly, and I believe wrongfully, portrayed him.

Anthony, bud. Though I didn't intend it, and tried to avoid it, Brian's reaction only further underlines my point of unintended consequences of our actions, and what we might promote. There is no fault on Brian's part. The fault lies with me in distributing untruths in the first place. Brian's only mistake was believing what I wrote. He trusted my word. And, now that he knows it was all made up, I'm going to have to work very hard to ever gain his trust again, which is something that I value, and do not want to lose.

Yes! Your news of Mom's recovery is awesome! I apologize for not mentioning that myself, before. I was distracted by other matters. Congratulations to Mom! I am sincerely wishing her, and you, continued good health.

Dear Chaz,

You're my buddy and I could never stay mad very long. I'm grateful the fire didn't happen.

Brian

I've been wanting to tell you about my birthday party last Monday, which was a good day. But as I type this I've been glued to my tv watching another night of my country being demolished. I'm angry and sad and scared for what is happening and what happens tomorrow. I was 2 years old when planes were intentionally flown into the World Trade Center and Pentagon, so I don't remember that. The USA is now being smashed from coast to coast by its own citizens, something I haven't witnessed in my 21 years. Some of you probably recall times in the 1960s & '70s when there were race riots, Vietnam War protests, etc. It must have seemed like it was all coming to an end at times. That is how it feels to me right now. :help:

Yes.

I was born in Oct. of 1950, so my teens, and twenties, coincided with the 60s and 70s. I was right around your age when all of that was happening. I still remember how it felt. It is not something that is easily forgotten, nor should it ever be.

'We' learned a lot from all of that, but not enough. This time is similar, yet different on many levels. The support for these protests is much broader, and encompasses all levels of society. Those inciting mayhem are a very small violent element. They are, in a way, reflections of the very hatred that is being protested. Just as those in law enforcement should not be seen in the same light as a few rotten apples, neither should the protesters. We have to look much deeper, with sincerity, into both sides.

It is interesting that another disgraced president was in The White House then, too. Richard Nixon was accused of attempting to establish an "Imperial Presidency". Yet, given all of his flaws, and short comings, and his being known as "The Law and Order President", not even R.M.N. called on the Pentagon to attack his own country, while hiding in a bunker, in fear of his own citizenry.

In some ways, this time is far more dangerous than those times before. Public safety is not only being threatened by violence, but also a raging viral pandemic, coupled with economic turmoil. And, if that were not enough, the very fabric of our country is also being actively unraveled, and subverted, from inside The Oval Office, which is the greater of our current threats. With rampant incompetency throughout the highest levels of our government, 'we' are left all that more vulnerable, to everything.

And yet, there is Hope. The ideals embedded in our founding (though not yet realized), and aspired to by our fellow citizens, is the driving force that will see us through this to better tomorrows. Because of what you are witnessing now, your future will be brighter than it would have been before. I firmly believe that, and you should, too.

This isn't my first rodeo.

I am glad you had a good birthday! There seems like there will be no peace in the USA for a while. I hope those policeman who killed George Floyd are punished but I also hope that the looting stops soon. Being an outsider to the USA I don't know if I have the right to have an opinion on all this but that is it.

Happy belated Birthday Anthony. Hopefully these harrowing times will be footnotes, just like the protests of the late 60's and early 70's, in our history books explaining how a true leader came to power as a result of the protests of 2020 and quieted down in 2021 and began the common sense reforms our country needs.

Wow, so much happening it's hard to know where to start!

Much of Pennsylvania has been bombarded with severe thunderstorms the past 2 days. Maybe more today. Lots of tree and structural damage with some flooding. In my little neighborhood we got hit with a series of storms that produced heavy windblown rain, thunder and lightning. A few small branches and some leaves came down, but otherwise no problems.

My birthday was excellent. Great friends and food. The Peppermint Schnapps went down easy. Kind of like drinking mouthwash with a kick to it. :) I wound up with a happy buzz. My birthday cake was white with a beautiful American flag icing design for Memorial Day. I got to watch a target shooting contest that I declined an invitation to participate in, and I also witnessed the budding romance between Randy and Adam.

Jay, I hope your flowers and veggies are off to a good start. Hopefully Colorado still doesn't look like your avatar! :D We got our tomatoes, peppers, and zucchini planted. One thing I've learned is to comparison shop. We went to Lowes and Home Depot and they wanted almost $4 for a single pepper plant. At an Amish owned greenhouse, we bought 6 for just $2.25! Mom also is giving watermelon plants a try for the first time.

There have been peaceful protests in Carlisle. Everyone speaking their minds and holding signs while staying on the sidewalks and not impeding traffic. The way a protest should be. Harrisburg has had protests that were more rowdy. A masked Emperor Wolf emerged from his bunker to march with protesters in Harrisburg a couple days ago to show a solidarity that he refused to show toward peaceful protesters who were simply pleading for the right to work and feed their families. He chose to call them cowardly and selfish.

When I went to vote for the first time in 2018, the first vote I cast was for Tom Wolf's re-election. Not because he was a Democrat or whatever. I just thought he was a better choice than his challenger, Scott Wagner. I was comfortable with that vote even through the early stages of this pandemic. It was after watching the economy collapsing under the weight of his dictatorial decisions that I lost my trust in him.

The CDC and WHO has recently revised its corona virus guidelines based on modern science and data. 1) When setting fires and looting that the police will not arrest you for, always wear a mask for protection and don't touch your face. 2) When smashing windows and carrying stolen merchandise from looted stores, maintain your social distance. Acts of arson and vandalism will also serve to deter evil business owners from risking public safety by re-opening too soon. 3) Before launching projectiles at authorities, wash your hands for 20 seconds and make sure all bottles, rocks, bricks, and explosive devices are properly sanitized before throwing them. Do it for George.

:didisay: I guess it's my cynicism showing.

Seriously, I hope that society learns a lot and doesn't forget. We seem to repeat the mistakes we choose not to remember. Political leadership is nowhere to be found at any level over the past week. Epic failure has been on display from the White House to the mayor's offices. We need to stop looking to politicians for leadership. Fuck the Democrats. Fuck the Republicans. There is no true leader waiting in the wings. You may despise the current POTUS, and he has been a complete knucklehead over the past week, but the Delaware Dickhead who wants the job gives me zero confidence for my future. A true leader can be any one of us on any day in small ways. We need to look at ourselves. Basic common sense rarely gets elected, but I guess we can thank the voters for that!

So glad you had a good birthday with friends and family surrounding you. You are correct Anthony the Southeast side of the state has been getting hammered with storms the past couple of days. Here on the Southwest side we didn't get as much rain as you did. Oh there was a little flooding in the usual places like the low lying areas of streams and such but nothing major.

Brian

I am thrilled to hear that you had an Awesome B-Day! "Mouthwash with a kick." Yeah. That's about right. (UU)

Target shooting is one of my favorite activities. Though I do not, and don't want to, own a gun, luckily I have friends with some very impressive arsenals, that let me play with their toys once in a while. I've shot just about everything from a black powder Kentucky Long Rifle, various shot guns, rifles, and hand guns, from a little cap and ball derringer, to an authentic Colt .45 "Peace Maker" revolver. I can out shoot my buds with the long barrels, but have trouble hitting things with a hand gun. There's a trick of just squeezing the trigger with your finger, while not squeezing the whole gun any firmer than you're already gripping it. That overall squeeze throws your aim off at the last second. I need more practice with that. One of these days ...

I'm also thrilled with your overall tone this time around. It's possible that you might not be quite as "lost" as I've been suspecting! Keep those young eyes of yours open, and ears to the ground. I promise there are brighter days ahead!

Luv ya, bud!! (*8*)

The weather here in southern PA has been beautiful. I'm spending a lot of time working outside. The garden is looking good, and I finished trimming the hedges. (Not the way Sad Brad did it )

I see that we have a new nation in downtown Seattle called CHAZ! Uh, congratulations? Our elected American government of, by, and for the people fighting hard for the safety of its citizens. ..| What a crock.

Speaking of crocks, I have no idea how many new virus cases or deaths we have. I give no attention to the "facts" that get released on a daily basis. I have zero faith in our Emperor or his health secretary. I don't eat the garbage they feed us anymore.

We don't wear masks at the shop any longer, nor are we requiring anyone entering to do so. Only one complaint so far in 2 weeks. Ash was talking to another business owner who told him that when he required customers to wear masks earlier, he lost some customers. Later, when he made mask-wearing optional, some people complained about that. So, it's 'Damned if you do and Damned if you don't.' We are back to normal business hours as more vehicles are back on the road. I no longer scrub and disinfect everything as I had been doing for the past 2 1/2 months. My fingers and hands are happy. My peeling skin looked terrible. I even got a nickname at the shop: Scrub Bunny. :) There was a dude who came by for a repair on his pickup truck. It was so covered with mud you weren't sure what color the paint was. He has been there before. I joked about it, and he said he'd give me $25 if I washed it for him. He was told his truck would be ready by the next afternoon. When he came back for it the next day, he paid me. It took a lot of elbow grease, but it looked good.

The target shooting contest at my b-day party was between Randy, his pal Jimmy, and one of our mechanics. Shotguns. I don't know anything about guns. I've never fired one, which makes me an oddball around these parts. And with Peppermint Schnapps flowing through my head I didn't think it was a good time to try it. Jimmy said to me, "Come on, live a little. Randy couldn't hit a giraffe in the neck until I showed him how." I passed.

A few days ago, I decided to wade into the JUB slime pit known as CE&P. I began a thread entitled "All Lives Matter." I got absolutely torched. 'Ignorant' was one of the nicer things they called me. You can read through that thread if you dare. Just be ready to take a shower when you are finished. Heck, maybe you'll agree with the haters for all I know. I don't regret starting the thread, though the OP probably should've been worded better. I'm going to reach out to some of them via PM with more respect than they gave me. Wish me luck. As Tom Petty once sang, "I'll stand my ground, and I won't back down."

Its nice to hear things are better in your part of the country. I hope they find a corona vaccine soon so things can get better everywhere. I stay out of CE&P because of the haters. I just had a look at your thread and I am glad at least some people stood up for you for the nice and caring person that you are.

Though I do not agree with them 100%, I have to admit I got a little kick out of "CHAZ". When I first saw that, I was like, "WTF?"

Passing on the shotguns was a wise move, especially if you've never shot any kind of gun before. Those puppies have a strong kick, and can hurt your shoulder if you're not holding them right.

Thanks to what Emperor Wolf did, PA is doing fairly well in relation to those states that ignored most everything right off the bat. Y'all would be doing better if you'd stuck to it. The numbers are headed off the charts in places like FL, GA, AL, TX, OK, AZ, etc., etc. You have to keep in mind that social distancing, masks, washing your paws, are NOT political, but rather the Smart things to do. They're the only weapons we currently have against a highly contagious, possibly fatal, VIRUS, that doesn't give a shit who it infects!

Two countries, not states but entire Countries, who endured "draconian" measures, are now reporting NO new cases, except those found in quarantined folks coming in, and Everyone arriving is quarantined. Their millions of citizens are now Truly Free to get on with their lives. Those would be Thailand and New Zealand. Even places like Germany, France, Spain, Italy, and Greece, are doing FAR better than we are. And, thanks to "the resistance", those ignoring Facts, it's gonna be getting a Lot worse here. That's not an opinion ...

You are One Brave dude wading into CE&P. I try my best to steer clear. It only raises my blood pressure, and my doc has been insisting that's not a good thing. I sincerely wish You all the very best on that venture!

"May you live in interesting times.", can be considered a blessing, and/or a curse. In any case ... HERE We Are!

Enjoy Your Summer!
