NEW YORK, N.Y. - The abandoned home that served as a clubhouse — and allegedly a torture chamber — for a street gang accused of trapping and brutalizing three gay men sits in a neighbourhood where homosexuality is both common and tolerated, residents said.

Gay men and women lived openly, and while neighbours were disturbed by some past violent behaviour by the group of young men alleged to have been involved in the attacks, some said they hadn't previously targeted homosexuals.

"I was friends with all of them," said Natty Martinez, a gay 16-year-old who lives in the Bronx neighbourhood.

"They were chill. There was no beef," she said. "I had no idea they had no heart."

New York City leaders continued to express outrage Saturday over the attacks, which police say took place over several hours on two nights. Seven suspects were arrested on Thursday and Friday. Two more were still at large.

Police said the nine members of a gang that called itself the Latin King Goonies went berserk after hearing a rumour that one of their new recruits, a 17-year-old, was gay.

Investigators say the teen was stripped, beaten and sodomized with a plunger handle until he confessed to having had sex with a 30-year-old man who lives a few blocks away.

Then, the group grabbed a second teen they suspected was gay and tortured him, too. Finally, they invited the 30-year-old to the house, telling him they were having a party. When he arrived, they burned, beat and tortured him for hours. The attack included sodomizing him with a miniature baseball bat, police said.

I guess having a new recruit turn out to be gay was more than they could take. Hope they do long prison terms.

Sorry, I disagree with both of you. We're supposed to be the good guys. Torturing anyone, for any reason, is wrong. We're better than them, remember? And let me get out my broken record again: just because someone deserves something doesn't make it right for you to do it to them.
 
I hope they get life in jail. How can people be so fucked up. I really REALLY want to hear how much time in jail they get.

I find it funny, they hate gays so much that they will torture someone because of it, now they will take it in the ass in jail.

S 130.70 Aggravated sexual abuse in the first degree.
1. A person is guilty of aggravated sexual abuse in the first degree when he inserts a foreign object in the vagina, urethra, penis or rectum of another person causing physical injury to such person:
(a) By forcible compulsion; or
(b) When the other person is incapable of consent by reason of being physically helpless; or
(c) When the other person is less than eleven years old.
2. Conduct performed for a valid medical purpose does not violate the provisions of this section.
Aggravated sexual abuse in the first degree is a class B felony, punishable by nine to twenty-five years in prison.

Something that always baffles me and is predictable in these stories is that they sodomize the victims. Well, if homosexuality is so disgusting and sinful, isn't it 'gay' for a dude to shove a baseball bat in another dude's ass? I mean, in their minds, isn't 'gay stuff' to be avoided at all costs? Sick to the core!

I hope they go to jail too, but it's not part of our judicial system for people to get raped in prison. It happens all the time, but it's a bad thing every time, no matter how bad the person is who gets it.

I think the idea is "so, you like it up the ass huh? WE'LL give it to you up the ass!" The sense is that they're using it punitively, to "teach them a lesson."

Yes, it's sick to the core.
 
I sure hope they get more than 25 years behind bars. I honestly hope they get life in prison. Are the 3 people okay?

Does anyone have info on the court case that maybe calling in to the department would help, or something?

I hope they get fucking life prison sentences and get repeatedly raped.

I had the same reaction......so he's allowed to beat up gay people because he pays taxes? What about the gay people who are beat up? They pay taxes too.

Not if there's not enough evidence that they participated in the crimes in question. Really, don't fall into the trap of believing that being accused and being guilty are the same thing!

You don't want to live in a society where you can lock people up just because someone SAYS they did something, trust me.
