  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Apple fanatics and their religous devotion

Mmm...

But those tools at the "genius table" or whatever it's called have SUCH an attitude....

I'd rather talk to my tech support guy (whom I'm fairly certain is located in Outer Mongolia ) to talk me through whatever problem I'm having with my PC.

Still, I know I'll give into Apple eventually.

Let's face it: They have a superior product.

That's your own personal perspective. I of course do not promote complacency and the myth that Macs don't get viruses. I'm not going to make this yet another Apple vs Windows based PC thread. It's really inappropriate.

Why?

Because you don't like losing? :p

Losing? No, I don't like getting infractions or warned not to take threads off topic.

What would I be losing? I already proved my point in the other thread. Take your weak trolling attempts elsewhere please.

Not trolling...

Just saying that, from many years of my own experience, Macs don't get viruses....

I love it when people grand stand and say "from years of my own experience"... it's your own opinion.

And yet, if no one ever shared what happened to themselves, and how things turned out, what else would we ever have to go by?

I'm saying 10-15 years on Mac and never a virus. You can take it or leave it.. :p

Whatever.

I owned PC's before I had Macs.

The only viruses I ever had were on the PC's.

See I have used OS X (on a non-brand PC, since a "mac" today isn't anything else than a branded PC), and Linux and I still use a lot of windows.

I never had a virus ever. On any of those platforms.

It's all about not being an idiot.

The person who clicks on an ad that says "your computer is infected" is the same kind of person that enters their root password when something says that it is needed to perform an iTunes upgrade.

And I'm saying you're simply being complacent as viruses do exist on Macs. You can take it or leave it.

I argue with facts only. It's why I won the argument in the other thread. ..|

Well you are right about the fact that malware exists for Macs.

You were wrong about the "fact" that it is easy to get. That is not a fact. It is actually rather hard to get any kind of malware on a Mac since there is so little of it out there compared to Win.

you would first have to stumble accross some file that was a Mac trojan or whatever, and then you would have to install it.

I obviously know what product is superior.

Kind of a hilarious statement here after you just claimed that you only use facts.

That statement is not a fact, it is a value judgment.

You see, a find a Mac superior for my work, so I have the opposite opinion. Neither opinion is "right" since the question is not factual, it is a personal judgment based on many varying factors.

Damn, GiancarloC, you're sounding like the religious folks you're doubting on another thread.

These arguments are stupid because it all boils down to whatever suits you.

The reason why Mac supposedly didn't have viruses is because less people used them, it wasn't economically viable. Now since there's been a humongous exodus of computer users migrating to Apple because of its simplicity and good looks, viruses do indeed exist, hence the reason why programs like clamav monitor your systems in the background.

If you're generally incompetent, or basic with your computer usage, then Mac is the best way to go. It's great for making amateur movies or simple music mixes/updating your ipod with itunes! whee! Macs are great, especially if you have a lot of extra money to spend. The OS is pretty. But pretty comes with a price. Apple outsources their hardware, which = lower quality, higher price. Let's not even talk about their stupid intellectual property rights lawsuits, jailbreaking fiascoes. If you buy something, you should have complete ownership of it.

If you like paying less for the same or even better quality hardware (depending on what you spice it up with), PC's are the way to go. Windows 7 is not inferior to MacOS. Especially if you like playing high, graphic and cpu intensive games. With the proper antivirus, you really have to be downloading really bad porn from a really shady site onto your computer to get a virus. It's a little less user friendly, but still manageable. I won't go into detail why Microsoft is an oh-so-evil monopoly because we've all heard that story already.

Linux based OS's are the best, because they're open source and you can do the most with them, but it's harder and more complicated to learn. Recently, Ubuntu's been getting all commercial and user friendly, and it's still a better more reliable option than Mac or Windows. And that's REALLY where you don't get viruses because they can never get access to the root to do any damage! (The exception being malicious scripts)

Check out Ubuntu, it's pretty, and boot speeds are incredible. Oh wait, you can't do that on Apple because of their uptight intellectual property policies, nevermind, don't do it if you care about your warranty.

What did I say about more and more mac vs 'PC' related threads popping up? ;)

The trolls have now discovered an effective new bait topic

I love Apple products, I still think obsessed people are rather ridiculous, it's just a phone/computer/etc. Some people even defend the products as if they were getting paid or something, it's so annoying, and that comes from all kinds of "fanboys" not only Apple's

I had to laugh.

Anyone who thinks their computer is immune from computer viruses is delusional. See the Pwn2Own competition. Although not about viruses, it shows that most computer stuff can be cracked.

I didn't say that macs have 100% immunity to viruses, I said that it has "strong immunity" meaning it's less susceptible to viruses than PC, no one can deny that it's a fact!

What is this stupid myth by PC fanboys that macs are for incompetent and beginner users? That's a full load of BS if I've ever heard any! Most of my PC using friends don't know shit about their dell or acer whatsoever and they are always replacing them with a new computer every 2/3 years and they are always complaining about viruses killing their machine.

The majority of computer owners in this world are beginner to average, not programmers or nerds who want to tinker with and build and troubleshoot all day on their machine, please get this fact in your head PC fanboys! The PC market is still at around 90% of the entire consuming world so the majority of that 90% are beginners and average users so don't give me that BS about mac s are for beginners and average users.

As for the viruses thing who the F cares about why macs are less attacked by viruses. The fact it they are less attacked by viruses. Until macs outsell PC and the table turns on the virus thing then you can make your case but for now macs are safer against viruses than PC machines.

Yes macs are more pricey because they freakin last longer!!!!!!
You get what you pay for!

I've gone through this many times and told why it simply isn't true. You're about ten years behind when it comes to that statement. And as far as graphic design, good luck with those machines and their standard graphics cards. They aren't light years ahead of PC makers... and they haven't been in many years.

"I don't think I'm going to touch this topic. You all see what happened in the other thread. As I said before, I have certain criteria in making decision when buying products. For me, Apple falls short in the quality department."

So much for that. /\
You're funny fanboy Giancarlo!

I have a G4 thats about 4 yrs old? I think. About a year ago it seriously crashed , thnk goodness I had their insurance plan,
Now I have 8 fine coloured lines down my screen, they ( apple services) tell me my monitor is on the way out. So I now have to look at a new computor. I am very happy with this G4 but last they don't, problem free their not.

All I know is that my MacBook Pro just works. I can't say the same for my desktop PC or my last laptop. If I have to pay a little more to know that I'm going to have fewer problems over the life of the product, then so be it.
