Most beta software is time limited to my knowledge. Boot Camp is included in OS 10.5.

^ Yes. Apple has stopped the beta because the final version of Boot Camp is now ready and will ship Friday with OS 10.5.

Apple always said that Boot Camp was a beta and the final version would be included with Leopard.

most commcercial betas end at some time. it is still quite a bit unusual that you cannot get bootcamp as a single product, but have to buy the new OS. which is kinda pointless since the beta proved that it runs on the old OS as well.

I would think that the only way for them to stop it would be when it calls home as they didn't know the release date of Leopard when the beta came out. I would think one could use "Little Snitch" to stop it "phoning home" Not sure on that though.

Whereas Microsoft was supporting Windows 95 years after it said it would stop and provided all the patches/fixes etc. for download years after that again. This behaviour on the part of Apple makes it the new Microsoft IMO.

OS 10.3 came out Oct 23 2003 and is still supported by Apple. Thats 4 years ago.

My experience has been that every incremental upgrade has produced a faster computer. Those that haven't upgraded to 10.4 should do so unless they intend to go to 10.5. Required is a Mac with an 867 MHz processor or faster.

Unlike Windows, Mac OS disks are full featured and come with development tools and sell for $129. Also unlike Windows, there are no requirements for a key;)

Aye - you don't need a key but you do need an Apple computer - no wonder they can sell the OS for a pittance - you have to spend a grand or more for the computer first whereas I can buy a brand new PC with the OS for less than $500 :p

ouch! ;)
Yes, but then you need to use it:gogirl:

So where's all this stuff you were talking about doing on a PC that you can't do on a mac? Just out of my morbid curiosity.

Hope he is 18+

I've got several pieces of beta software that isn't time limited. I've got a beta version of Firefox 3 and uTorrent and neither is time limited.

Apple will discontinue and disable Bootcamp for Tiger to force users to upgrade to Leopard.

The Boot Camp beta wasn't an ordinary beta - it was billed as a preview of an upcoming Leopard feature. A fairer comparison would be to the Safari 3 beta, which will continue to be supported on Tiger as far as I know.

You two should get an Apple fanboi room while I go and use my PC.

What shall I do on my PC today? Watch a movie? Edit my own movie? Edit wav/mp3 files? Edit graphics? Maybe write a new app with Visual Studio? Or burn a CD with Nero? Or watch TV on it? Surf the web? Send some emails? Read some spreadsheets/documents/databases blah blah blah

This is the 'magic' laptop that Office 2007 runs on without activation and it runs on Vista Ultimate that also didn't need activation and that hasn't crashed in months btw (the last time it did was because of crappy drivers that Windows warned me not to install but I did but Windows fixed itself in ten minutes).

I can't do half the things on a Mac that I can do on my PC - all for free

I'm afraid Apple and OS X have a long way to go to sell their wares to me.

(*8*)

Considering you clearly admit to stealing the software you use, it sounds like Apple will NEVER sell their wares to you. :-)

Don't you think it a bit obtuse to so adamantly defend the platform and applications you use, whilst failing to contribute to the development of said apps/OS by paying for them?

@ wascallywabbit - you sound just like a fundamentalist - making up excuses for your religion when holes are found in it.

Um.. you've elevated your anti-Apple thing to a cult, it seems.. I mean honestly... you don't get how bizarre all your anti-Apple rants are? And now we find out that it's all because you'd have to learn new software?

sheesh.

I should have listened to all those PMs and ignored you.

You could make a pie chart, go command line C:\> or you could defrag your hard drive after removing bloatware, spyware, worms and virii. How about re-installing your system? You could also press*Start* to shut down. Meanwhile Jasun and I will search the internet for that elusive fanboi room and do what Mac guys do very well (have wild sex with horny str8 dudes with all the free time we have because we don't have to do all that stuff)
:p
Just toying with ya noelie:D

Noelie, your topic doesn't make sense. Yes, the beta has ended because Apple always intended to include Boot Camp into their next OSX operating system (which just happens to be Leopard). There's nothing bad about it. It was nice they even created the software.

Besides, you're going to want Leopard anyway. Time Machine is worth the cost in itself.

But you posted that youtube video of that hot guy so ..|
