Thad, I see you had a great time in New Orleans, it's a great place for a gay man to be a bad boy. Yeah, I remember places like the Corner Pocket and Rawhide when I went there some years ago. No worries about the autocorrect, it has sabotaged me more times than I can count. It annoys me when it comes out with something that I would never be sloppy enough to let go.

Gary, I'm glad you got your replacement radio. I hope you can endure your latest heatwave, it sounds miserable.

Eaglex, I think Frida the dog is doing OK. I think I've heard her bark. I didn't actually see her, since there is a thick vegetation screen at the fence, except at the corner of the yard where she jumped it.

This past week has been rather quiet, which I'm grateful for, after having the new water heater installed and having to deal with the dentist.

It's great to see you back on here, Dan! :wave: Oh, it's been a typical Florida summer-- hot, muggy, rainy, stormy-- rinse and repeat. I had to replace a water heater, issues with the dentist, been doing as little gardening as possible due to the heat, etc. You can read about my trials and travails in my thread.

Well, the Rare Fruit Council will have their election for board members tomorrow night, and I expect trouble. It seems the nominating committee has improperly denied a woman who was running a place on the ballot due to a technicality. She is brash, having given a fiery speech last month, but she had a lot of good suggestions for the club. But from reading the emails, it's clear that people are going to insist that she will be allowed to run, as in, if they insist on holding the line they're not going to get out of there alive. I expect lots of fireworks, and I'll just sit and watch the drama unfold. :corn: Seriously, I'm a bit concerned, enough that I considered asking for prayers from those of you who are religiously minded.

The movies are great, but I prefer to watch them at home. Then I can pause to go use the restroom and I don't have to worry about people talking during it.

Hi John! I didn't hear of rioting at any clubs in South Florida so I hope everything is OK.

So with the new water heater...have you left the shower yet?

I haven't done much these last few days, but the weather has been lovely and I do go out, at least a little, every day. Today was off to the library to pick up a "hold" and to Dollar General across the street for paper products. And am hour reading on the back porch. Tomorrow? Well, the Philly Fringe Festival is presenting hundreds of performances this month. I went to two "previews" in August, and one performance since I've been back. If anything's in the daytime, I may take a chance, no matter how flaky or post-avant-garde it may be.

The heat has eased up a little. Next week we will be in the 90s.

I have always had many doves and quail come for dinner, even after the start of dove season September first, when the number drops a little. However, this year after the first the doves disappeared. In the last few days three or four doves have reappeared. There is no hunting here on the California side of the Colorado River, but across the river dove hunting is a big sport on the Indian farms. Quail are in greater numbers than usual.

Prayers for the council.

Gary, I'm glad your heat has eased up a little. Down here there's been no relief whatsoever. It's still hot and very humid. We get thunderstorms and heavy rains every day, but they don't bring relief, because as soon as the rains stop, it goes right back to being hot and muggy. It's always nice to have birds around. I have mourning doves, and I like their sweet "coo coo coo" calls. There's also a lot of non native collared doves, which have a more whooping "Whoo-hoo-hoo, whoo-hoo-hoo" sound. Undoubtedly they were brought in as a game bird, though I live in an urban area, so hunting is prohibited. I also have a lot of mockingbirds, blue jays, and grackles. And flocks of ibises regularly visit my lawn, hunting for grub.

Thad, the Philly Fringe Festival sounds interesting. I'm sure there's some great avant-garde stuff happening, but then you also tend to see stuff that's so whacked out that all you can do is laugh at it. Actually, there were a lot of artsy and creative people when I lived in Tampa, and I enjoyed it over there. I miss having that element over here.

Eaglex, I hear you about watching movies at home, where you can watch at your own pace, stop the movie whenever you need to do something, and you don't have to dress up to see it.

Actually, I'm enjoying my hot water heater, though I'm only keeping my shower temps lukewarm because of the hot weather. Though I'm glad to be able to run my dishwasher once again.

Well, the Rare Fruit Council meeting was as contentious as advertised, with lots of shouting and motions and counter motions. They did finally have a ballot vote, but I'm still digesting all that happened. One thought that has helped me since the meeting is I got the message to assume that everyone involved had good intentions. I have thought about making some suggestions to handle the problems that arose. I'll probably mull them over for a couple of days and decide if any of then are worth submitting,

(*S*) When I got up at 7AM I couldn't believe my eyes, The thermometer read 65F. That is down 20 degrees from Sunday. The cold water is down to a tolerable level, and I am Happy (!) But not for long. The heat returns in a couple of days. Enjoy your new hot water.

I'm glad you're getting cooler. 65 degrees? That will make for nice sleeping weather, and I'm sure you're enjoying being able to take cool showers. Too bad it's going to heat up again soon. Down here it's still hot and muggy, though nighttime temps are starting to drop into the upper 70s. But it's still going up into the low 90s.

Well, I'm still trying to arrange for the municipal code inspector to come look at my new water heater installation with the company that installed it. But it seems that while they said it was a gas water heater on the permit, they attached the page for an electric water heater. So I'm trying to get that corrected. The company with mail out the corrected permit, and we can finally arrange for the inspection when I get it. They actually wanted to email it to me, but I can't print it out, because my printer jams, and besides, it's connected to my old computer, which my internet provider refuses to support, so I couldn't receive it on that computer anyway. So I guess I'm in the market for a new printer. But I'm not looking forward to the headaches you get with new electronics. I'll have to install the running program, configure it so it works with my current computer and email, etc. And usually your first couple of attempts fail, so you have to figure out what you did wrong, and call tech support and wait forever to answer your call, or you have to find the relevant information on the company's website, which isn't easy to understand or confusing, or isn't correct for your particular model, etc.
 
Hi John! I kinda wasted today...but I went to a great concert Tuesday night. My favorite band, Jukebox the Ghost, opened for Lawrence. I didn't know Lawrence...turns out they're an 8-man band from New York led by siblings Clyde and Gracie Lawrence. They are good. And their next tour stop is a sold-out Radio City Music Hall in NYC.

So tomorrow I plan to live a little more fully!

All is well with the water heater, I hope.
Looks like a football burn out ahead. Just watched Stanford win their first game in the new league. At 9AM tomorrow it is Florida and then at 12:30 it is USC, Notre Dame and UCLA. My butt will be sore, and my thumb will be muscle bound from working the remote.

We are at 75F and had a thunder shower earlier. This is the best time of year in the desert.

Yes Gary, the Gators had a big win today. So we can celebrate for now, though their schedule is brutal. Hope your Holy Men and USC and UCLA win today. BTW, I remember college football on the TV early Saturday morning in my hotel room when I visited California some years ago and it seemed a bit odd. But that's what you get with the time zone difference. A noon game on the East Coast will be on at 9 AM on the West Coast. But then again, night games on the Pacific Coast will end severe hours after midnight here. That is, if we can even get them here.

I'm glad you've got a nice cool down out in the desert, with some rain. It's perceptibly cooler here, with temps going "only" up to about 90, with lows in the mid- 70s, and a "slight" dip in the humidity. So far it hasn't rained today, which would be just about the first dry day in September so far.

Thad, Lawrence is pretty good, at least judging from the songs you posted. They have kind of a blue-eyed soul sound to their music, which I like. I don't remember if you've posted any Jukebox the Ghost songs on here.
 
Did you know dynk (Paul Landry)? He died September 2. We became good friends here and met up for two days in Scottsdale, AZ. Also, we talked on the phone every few days usually for hours.

All my friends are dying or moving away. It is very lonely now with BillyT, Boris, Red Fox also gone.
