Hello, Frankie!
That is a pretty planting of fuchsias. I'm sorry that your relatives killed yours. They sound like the kind of people that don't bother to talk to you or ask you what you want or need, they just assume. That's why I refuse to hire a lawn maintenance service, because they'll mow down and kill all my good plants. Sure, they'll make the yard "neat" but sterile.
Yeah, my yard is a hell of a lot of work, but I'm also getting rewarded. My amaryllis is displaying spectacular blooms right now, and even my neighbor noticed. And my mulberry is full of delicious fruit. I just pick them and eat them right off the tree. I would think they'd be more popular.
And yes, I did more yard work yesterday. I gave some of my established fruit trees a special formula of 0-3-16 fertilizer. That's 0, as in no nitrogen, in that I don't need to stimulate them to grow any more. Besides, everything will get plenty of nitrogen anyway, from the nitrogen fixing that comes from thunderstorms. We'll have plenty of those starting in about a month, and running until October.
I did some mowing yesterday, as the grass has suddenly grown up high due to the recent rains and warmer temperatures. I'm trying to get my blanket flowers started, but the grass is overtaking them in places. I'm also trying to get some Dutchman's pipe vines to grow up, but again, the grass is overtaking them. They're left over from a planting that the elderly lady next door had some years ago. I had to mow, carefully avoiding the areas where things are growing that I want, and I'll just have to cut back the grass with hand clippers in those areas. It's slow, tedious work, but I'd like to save the blanket flowers and Dutchman's pipe.
Here is a picture of my amaryllis:
