Araucaria Appreciation Thread

Hello Johnnie , I hope you've had a great weekend

Have a pleasant new week !
:rb:

It seems that Pogo the opossum has vacated my utility room. I hadn't seen him/her in the last several days, so I straightened up in there, leaning my hurricane shutters back up where they belong, and placed the fertilizer bag where it should go. Now the place is back to being its usual mess. I can now get to my gas can, which is currently empty, but I'll need to fill it up to start mowing soon. With all thunderstorms, rain, and heat we've been having, the grass and the weeds should soon take off like gangbusters.

Everybody thinks it's the rain that causes everything to grow like crazy in the summer. That's part of it, but I've heard that it's actually nitrogen fixing which occurs in the atmosphere. Lightning bolts cause the nitrogen in the atmosphere to bond in molecules that plants can use, and then those compounds fall to the ground dissolved in the rain droplets. So nitrogen fixing, rain, and heat make my yard like a jungle.

Hello Johnnie , I hope you have a pleasant weekend My Friend , take care

Have a great weekend, John! (*8*)

Good Sunday morning Harke, Paul, RM, Frankie, and Andrew! (*8*)

Thanks for stopping by, Harke!

Well, I mowed the lawn yesterday evening, or at least half of it. The recent rains made the grass and weeds grow high in half of it, but the other half is just getting in gear after it being so dry previously that it really didn't need mowing. Hey, mowing in the heat is hard work, and the really hot weather hasn't arrived yet. I'm getting older, and in the last couple of summers I would mow the front yard, and then have to quit, and mow the back yard another day.

Have a good Sunday, everyone!

Good evening, John. (*8*)
I'm aware gardening is a lot of work but I'd like that so much. You are lucky to have the space and the time for that. You can always take your time if it's too much work.

Hello Johnnie , having a garden must be beautiful , like Paul said ...
I would suggest you do the gardening work progressively in order not to get too overwhelmed and strained . Take advantage that the super hot weather hasn't arrived yet

Have a pleasant new week

Good Wednesday morning Christian, RM, Frankie, and Paul! (*8*)

Christian, that stud is looking back like he's saying "You want my beefy buns? (I really hope that you do!)"*|**|**|*:bj::fellate::sex::sex::hump:

Paul and Frankie, my garden is really doing well. I've noticed that everything is doing well. My mango trees are loaded with developing fruit that should be ripe in a month or two, my plumeria has started blooming, and my rare Jamaican Brunsfelsia is loaded with fragrant white blooms. You can barely detect the fragrance in the day, but they produce this exquisite perfume in the evening that wafts past my window.

Fortunately I've done most of the major work I wanted to get out of the way this winter, before the hot weather sets in. Unfortunately I'll have to do lawn mowing about once a week, there's no getting around it, but I won't do anything else except water the plants during dry spells. I don't want to hire a lawn maintenance company, because they'll cut down all my good things along with the grass. You lose so many things with them.

Hello Johnnie , I love the sweetness of mangoes , your garden sounds very appealing and I love plants that produce a fragrance at night only , we have a plant that is similar with white flowers as well , here it's called " Galan De Noche " something like Night Handsome Knight , it's on our sidewalk street garden .

I hope you have a pleasant Thursday ! :rb:

Good Wednesday evening, Frankie and Andrew!

Frankie, I googled "Galan de Noche" and the sources said it's called "night-blooming jasmine" in English (Cestrum nocturnum), and yes, we do have it in Florida, though I don't have one myself. It is very powerfully fragrant, and you can smell it from a long distance. I used to keep a regular jogging schedule in my younger days, and I'd frequently smell them. And I noticed something interesting about them. They would only bloom at the time of the new moon and the full moon. Quite remarkable that a plant blooms according to the phases of the moon!

Good evening, John.
I'm glad everything is going well in your garden.
I think I've seen this Galan de Noche some time. Here we also have what we call "Flor de nit" (Night flower), a plant with flowers of different colors that only open during the night. They have a sweet smell. I tried to grow them once and failed. I think they can't live in pots, only on the ground.

Good Friday afternoon, Frankie and Paul! (*8*)

Paul, I recognize that flower as what we call four o'clocks in the United States, because the flowers don't open until late afternoon. I used to have one when I lived in Tampa, in a large pot, no less. They had a deep rose color and a wonderful fragrance. Unfortunately I had to leave it and a bunch of other wonderful plants when I moved, since they had all rooted and I couldn't move them without a lot of trouble. My next door neighbor had one when I was a kid, and my grandmother had one on the farm in Alabama, which probably means it does well in a wide range of climates. Maybe I should look out for some and plant them again.

Paul, I think you said you had a north-facing apartment? That's probably why yours failed, because I think flor de nit/four o'clocks are sun lovers.
