Araucaria Appreciation Thread

Hello Johnnie

I hope you have a pleasant and cool new week buddy

(*8*) Good afternoon, John. The rain and humidity have brought out flies and mosquitos. A fly is driving me nuts as I try to type this.

My bug zapper went crazy yesterday.

Still a steam bath today.

Happy Labor Day John! (*8*)

Hello Johnnie I hope you have a pleasant Tuesday later buddy
Take care

Good Thursday morning Frankie, RM, Gary, Matthew, and Paul! (*8*)

Gary, I hope you're dealing with the desert heat OK, and that your humidity is down, and that your flying insects have gone away.

RM, I hope you had a nice Labor Day.

Matthew and Paul, I don't really have an opinion on Molt vs. Mucho. Molt reminds me of Molto, which you might see in printed music. Mucho is a Spanish word which has become very common as English slang. I take it that Molt is French, akin to the Italian Molto. Italian terms have been adopted to music.

Good evening, John. I hope you had a good day (*8*)

Molt is a Catalan word but you already guessed what it means. If you look at most Romanic languages you can see the similarity:
Portuguese muito
Spanish mucho
Catalan molt
Old French moult
Italian molto

End of today's lecture :)

Hello Johnnie , I hope that you have had a nice Thursday , thanks for writing

Have a cool and fun Friday later my friend

:rb:

(*8*) Good morning, John.

I see the Gators are playing McNeese U tomorrow who lost their first game 52-34. I hope that bodes well for your munch masters. gator.gif

My Holy Men are playing N. Carolina State who lost their first game 24-14. I except crushing defeat for NCS.

My garage floor is finally dry, and the water (Condensate) is being properly pumped out to the drain.

Our heat is around 105F for the last few days and looks like will remain so for the next few days. The flies are going away (y)

I hope Hurricane Lee stays well away from you.

Enjoy the weekend.

Good Saturday morning Gary, Frankie, and Paul! (*8*)

Gary, I think the Gators will be able to handle McNeese reasonably well, and your Holy Men should dispatch with NC State in fine form. I guess you're back down to the typical desert heat, which I suspect is taking care of the flies as well.

I think hurricane Lee is in an area where storms usually turn before they can cause trouble for us. But since this one is very strong, I'll be a little nervous until it actually does.

Hello Frankie, hope you're having a good weekend.

Paul, I've noticed the similarity in all the Romanic languages. Also, I've noticed that there are usually English words that correspond to the Romance language words, which will have a similar if not the same meaning (also true of English and German).

Good evening John. I hope you enjoy the weekend (*8*)

It's funny that you have a sports team called the Holy Men

The same similarities happen in the Germanic languages as well (English, German, Dutch...). I remember watching an old BBC doc about the history of English and they explained all these very well.

(*8*) Good morning, John

Our teams sure had a fun day yesterday. My other favorite, USC, cleaned up also.

We are still at 106F with no hope of getting to below 100 this week.

Is that hurricane still avoiding you?

Paul, BillyT named Notre Dame (a catholic school) "Holy Men"

Good Monday afternoon Gary, Frankie, and Paul! (*8*)

Gary, my Gators and your Holy Men both did well on Saturday. I'm hoping the Gators can prove themselves against stronger competition on Saturday, when Tennessee comes to The Swamp in Gainesville. I'm sorry to hear that you had some damage to your back porch. Hope you can get it fixed quickly and at minimal cost.

Hurricane Lee is still churning out in the Atlantic, but the National Hurricane Center is now clearly showing the storm going north well east of here in the general direction of Bermuda, so we don't have to worry about this one.

Paul, I'm feeling at a bit of a disadvantage in that I am not fluent in a second language. I did take a year of Spanish when I went to university, but I certainly can't understand everything said or written. I can catch a few words here and there, but I usually can't get the gist of what is being said when I hear native speakers. I know even less French. I took a course at the behest of my Mother once, who taught the course, because she was afraid there wouldn't be enough people enrolled for the class to make.

John I understand what you mean. I'm honestly good at languages but it takes some time and a lot of practice before you can speak fluently.

You'll never guess what language I'd like to learn: Finnish. It looks fascinating.

Hello Johnnie (UU)
I hope you have a fun and cool Wednesday later buddy

Good Friday morning/afternoon, Frankie and Paul! (*8*)

Paul, Finnish would certainly be a challenging language. It is my understanding that it is a completely different language, which is not connected with any of the major European language groups (Germanic, Romanic, Slavic). As it turns out, there is a sizable Finnish population in my area, and they have Finnish-American clubs and even Finnish language publications. I have no idea how they feel about Tom of Finland.

Frankie, I hope all is well with you.

Hello Johnnie , thanks for caring (*8*) :rb: (*8*)
I am alright , I hope everything's fine with you as well

I hope you have an utterly fun weekend my friend
