Araucaria Appreciation Thread

Today was disappointing. Almost all the leftovers were given away! All that was left was cole slaw and ice cream. Some kind of meal, huh?

Good Wednesday morning Paul, Thad, Frankie, and RM! (*8*)

Thad, I'm sorry you didn't get much in the way of leftovers from that party. It's hard to plan for something like that. If you buy food to make sure you're covered, you're likely to end up with more than you can eat. But if you count on plenty of leftovers, you run the risk of not having enough, or getting odd stuff that doesn't make a good meal.

Well, my mango crop suddenly hit its peak, and I have a bunch of them on my dining room table waiting to be eaten. The problem with them is that they all start to get ripe all at once, and it's hard to predict exactly when that will happen beforehand.

And it has been hot here. Yesterday the temperature hit 99 degrees at the airport, with a heat index of 107. I've lived here 66 years, and I've seen the temp hit 99 three or four times before, but never exceed it. But then again, with this persistent pattern, this might be the year it happens. It gets annoying to feel hot and sticky all the time.,

(*8*) Hi, John

I posted answers to your question about the Big Boy in Rob's thread. It's long so I will not repeat it here.

Happy Hump Day :3way:

Hello Johnnie , thanks for writing .

Apparently , the weather is altered everywhere , let's hope summer 2024 is bearable worldwide

I hope you have a pleasant Thursday later My Friend

Good Thursday afternoon, Gary and Frankie! (*8*)

A strange situation has developed today. This morning I want out and found myself greeted by two large, friendly shepherd-type dogs. They are obviously well-cared for, being happy, healthy, and well-fed. I petted them and went back in my house, figuring they would eventually head on. But I went out a couple of hours later, and they were lounging in the shade in my carport. It's quite warm in spite of them being in the shade, so they were panting heavily. I decided to put some water out for them. The thing is that they're still there, and if their owner doesn't show up to get them before long, I'm going to have to feed them. But I haven't had a dog since I was a teen, so I don't know what dog food to get them, not to mention that it will be an unexpected expense. And what should I do to find the owner? I'd be worried to death if I were them.

Problem solved. One of the dogs had a collar with the nametag Lara on it. Finally, when I was out there checking up on the dogs, I happened to notice a telephone number under the dog's name. So I called the number, and the guy csme over in a few minutes to pick up his dogs. He sounded like he was worried about them, and handed me a bottle of pinot Grigio wine for my troubles.

Hello from Cleveland!

Cleveland Pride was yesterday and the weather was ideal! The parade was over an hour and the festival was packed with people.

Last night I went to the North Coast Men's Chorus concert, "Loud & Proud." Nina West was the guest star and did not disappoint. She brought fabulous wigs and outfits and sang and danced. I'm always impressed with the Chorus' work. They always sound good and have enjoyable soloists and dancing.

I went to Cleveland Metroparks Zoo today! It's quite a large zoo, with a rainforest. I was hoping to see giraffes, and they have two Masai giraffes, the largest kind. They also have rhinos, a bald eagle, ostriches, bison, seals, bears, an Amur leopard (they're severely endangered), snakes, frogs, and toads.

I liked your dog story with a happy ending. Giving them water was nice of you.

The Stanley Cup finals are set, and I'm rooting for the Panthers. But I do own an Oilers jersey so it's not that bad if Edmonton wins. The finals start June 8.

Have a good week! I fly home Tuesday.

(*8*) Good afternoon, John

I grew up on the musical theater as my father worked in movie and stage productions as a singer. If you ever saw any of the Nelson Eddy-Jennette movies, my dad sang for Eddy, all uncredited, here he is singing "Ah, Sweet Mystery of Life" from Naughty Murietta:

Good Thursday morning Thad and Gary! (*8*)

Thad, it sounds like you had a good time at Pride in Cleveland. There aren't too many Pride celebrations in June in Florida, because it's blazing hot with ungodly humidity. St. Pete has their Pride in late June, but I've heard that they moved the Parade to the evening hours to avoid the heat.

Gary, it's great to see the dancing and singing in the old movies. It's a shame that your father was uncredited for having all his singing overdubbed for Nelson Eddy.

I'm starting to realize how some of you guys just don't feel like doing anything. Some kind of low-grade illness seems to have crept up on me. I'm coughing, have a little chest congestion, a bit of throat irritation, headaches, pain in my shoulder, etc. It's enough that I've had to start taking it easy, especially In the heat, so no strenuous gardening. And I also feel like doing nothing mentally. I had planned to call a couple of contractors about getting my front and back doors replaced, but I felt like, is this what my life is going to be like, doing nothing but getting repairs around the house done? So I decided not to make any calls and not worry about it yesterday, and just relax. I was surprised how much better I felt, knowing I wouldn't have to confront that yesterday. Though it does need to get done eventually.

Go Panthers!

Hello Johnnie , thanks for writing buddy . I hope you have a fun Weeekend My Friend

Happy Friday morning, Araucaria!

Hope all is well with you.

That show sounds like fun. To me professional wrestling/sports entertainment has always been homoerotic.

All is well with me. The main thing bothering me right now is my tv remote not working, but I have 1 that controls the TV, but it won't turn on or off the TV so I have to borrow my Dad's TV remote to do that. Going to the store this weekend to get a new remote.

Hope you have a happy and awesome weekend!

Hi John! Did you recharge? Found some energy?

I'm headed to Atlantic City shortly to see Pattii Labelle tonight. I took a promotion and didn't realize how good it was until talking to friends today. I paid $25. Apparently it's a deal. I do great things on a small budget.

Good Sunday morning Frankie, Eaglex, and Thad! (*8*)

Eaglex, I hope you've been able to solve your TV remote problem. It's frustrating when your devices won't do what they're supposed to.

Thad, I hope you had fun at the Patti Labelle concert. $25 for a top-line performer is one hell of a bargain these days. Back in March I paid almost three times that price to see a TRIBUTE act. Panthers won last night, how about those saves?

Actually, I did find some energy yesterday, but only because I had to. I had a friend give me two large rose bushes Friday because he no longer wanted to take care of them. I'm still not feeling my best, but I made myself get out and plant them early yesterday morning before it got too hot to do that. I was going to plant them somewhere in my backyard, but the Bible verse about not hiding your light under a bushel came to me at that time. My interpretation was that it meant I was not supposed to hide the beauty of the roses, but plant them in my front yard where everyone could see them. So that's what I did. I dragged the roses in their pots, dug two large holes, and planted them. And they both had many thorns, which made handling them a delicate matter. But growing roses is going to be a completely different gardening experience than what I've been doing. Roses are delicate and need lots of pampering. It made me realize that most of my success in gardening has been with fruit trees and plants that have proven their toughness by thriving in the heat and poor soil. I know I'm going to have to fertilize the roses, but the fertilizers I use on my fruit trees are too harsh for lots of roses, and I hope I don't have to use too many specialty products to take care of pests and diseases on them.

Hi John! I'm glad you can stop and smell the roses.

Miss Patti put on a show last Friday, and her opening act was the.Commodores. It's a shame they only had a few hits to play...oh, you know they have a catalog to choose from!

I'm watching the hockey game on TV. The Oilers scored first tonight but it's early.
