Happy day-after-Labor Day! I'm headed to Atlantic City tomorrow for a couple days. Jersey Shore towns change radically after Labor Day, even towns with a year-round population. The locals love it.

I'll probably enjoy a breakfast at a favorite place in one of the nearby towns.

My side yard is small, but bursting with black-eyed susans. They're Maryland's state flower, and so cheerful.

Good Friday morning Thad, RM, Gary, Paul, Frankie, and Loner! (*8*)

Thad, I'm glad you had a great time in Atlantic City. Those black-eyed Susans look wonderful. They don't seem to get planted too much in Florida, but I remember seeing them as a kid when we'd travel to Georgia and Alabama in the summer.

RM, I hope you had a nice Labor Day.

Gary, I hope you're doing alright, and all that rain and storms hitting the Southwest aren't too frightful where you are. The Gators had no trouble the other night. They play the South Florida Bulls tomorrow, and need to take them seriously, since the Bulls unexpectedly humiliated Boise State last week. I haven't seen who your Holy Men are playing this week, but I hope they do well.

Frankie, I hope everything is going well with you.

Well, it doesn't seem that a lot has changed in the last week. I'm having carambolas/starfruit and sugar apples/sweetsops for breakfast each morning, both from my own backyard trees. I'm glad they're doing very well for me. The rain and thunderstorms are continuing, and the temps have gradually come down to about 90 for highs. I went out yesterday morning, and it wasn't too hot, but there was enough moisture in the air to swim in it. Hey, it's not much, but it's better than the heat we've been having as late as this past weekend.

 Hi John

The Holy Men are off this week. Your gator.gifs are given an 85% chance of winning. After the shark feast last week, hopefully it will be roast beef this week. Hope they do not get fat and lazy.

The internet has been on and off all morning. I have been trying to send this for several hours.

(*8*) What went wrong? The Gators were heavily favored to win. Just to show you, the experts don't know it all.

Fresno State won too. I saw most of that game (the TV was on as I cleaned) and the commentators were dumbfounded.

Hello Johnnie , I hope you have a Pleasant New Week

thanks for writing My Friend

(*8*) Hi, John

My thumb will get a workout tomorrow. My Holy Men, your Gator men and the bull riders are all on at 4:30.

The gator.gifare given only a 29% chance. My guys - 68%

None of Thursday games where on my TV. :(

I had forgotten about my 2.0 version which popped up a few days ago. I remember you asked if I wanted them combined and I said no. Now that I think about it, that would be good.

The heat is letting up some. But another heat wave is on the way next week though only 108. The mornings are in the high 70s.

It must be nice to have flowers in the garden, Thad. Here everything gets eaten.

Good Saturday morning Thad, Gary, Frankie, and Paul! (*8*)

Thad, those are some wonderful pics of flowers, many of which I've grown, or I'm at least familiar with them. I had four o'clocks growing outside my apartment when I lived in Tampa. Periwinkles grow wild down here, and they often volunteer in my yard, though I don't think I currently have any. We had a spectacular display of zinnias when I was a child one year. And that last pic looks like a trumpet creeper vine. There's a native variety that does well down here, one of the few things that is also native from up north that also grows here (my ex's grandmother had one). That looks like the one in the picture might be a hybrid or Chinese variety that are also listed in a garden book I have.

Gary, I'm glad your heat is starting to let up, but I guess it's relative. 108 is still way too hot. We'll see how the Gators fare against LSU. One thing about this game that I've noticed over the years is that it often doesn't go the way you'd expect. Though during last week's game I noticed something that has been a problem with the Gators over the last several years. They had several opportunities to take control of the game, but they killed themselves with penalties. I hope your Holy Men do well.

Frankie, I hope all is well with you.

Paul, I see that you got down to the beach. I hope you enjoyed a good swim.

I went to help out at the food pantry this week, but the guy that runs it really got on my nerves, with a bunch of needling remarks and questions. I can see throwing out food that is beyond its expiration date, but he was throwing out perfectly good food, including items that I bought for the pantry in recent weeks. And now he's throwing out all items in glass containers because supposedly one fell and broke. So we have 50 pasta sauce jars we're not giving out, when we were doing it before. I mean, let's go ahead and give away what we already have, and if that's really a problem, then announce that we're not taking items in glass.

Weatherwise, it continues to be rainy and stormy, with more deluges just about every day and often during the night. It's very humid, but at least it's keeping the temps below 90 most days. My carambola/starfruit tree is almost done with the current crop, but it should bloom and bear another round for later in the fall and winter. Other than that, everything else seems to pretty much be done with their summer blooming or fruit bearing, and the fall and winter stuff haven't started doing their thing yet. I'll have to go around the yard and take some more pics of things to post.

Hola Johnnie

Thanks for writing
I am doing " o.K " anyway what matters is that I'm alive and I've got a shelter

I hope you are alright and that you have a Pleasant New Week
Take Care My Friend

(*8*) HI, john

Dish Network has been 1080i forever. They now have one 4KHDR channel which carry only football games. Just in time for me to see the Gators bite themselves in the butt continually in glorious, detailed high definition. Wish the game would have been as glorious.

The Holy Men did better, losing by one point. :(

Still just over 100F.

It's 80°f here at 2 PM, and that will be our high today. So another beautiful summer day.
I'm going into town tonight for another Fringe show, "Krampus Gets Cramped." The Christmas ghoul meets punk rockers in 1970's NYC. Should be fun!

Good Thursday morning Loner, Thad, Gary, and Frankie! (*8*)

Gary, I see that your area is due for another round of rain and perhaps flooding. Hope you can stay dry. As for the Gators, I hope they win against Miami Saturday, but with the way they've been playing, I don't think they're ready for a big game like that.

Thad, that Philly Fringe Festival act sounds like fun, I hope you enjoyed it.

I haven't done much gardening because of all the rain we've been having. I thought we were having a break from it the other evening, but wouldn't you know it, a little shower came by just as I started mowing. I finally got the front yard and half the back yard mowed a couple of nights later, dodging the rain and waiting until it was cool enough to get out there. But now the rains are back, but they are keeping the high temps in the mid to upper 80s.

Right now I'm reading The Emperor of Gladness by Ocean Vuong. I went to the library to renew it, and then sat down to read it while still in the library. The chapter I read described the protagonist and a few of his work friends trying to earn some extra money by working in a slaughterhouse for pigs for a day. Suffice it to say that it read like a description of one of Dante's levels of hell, horrifying and disgusting. I'll just say that I was glad I had already eaten lunch. And yes, I had pork chops! And right in the middle of this, the character got a call from his mother. He had lied to her and told her he was in college studying to become a doctor. He told her that he was euthanizing a pig to study in the lab in order to learn to save patients one day. "Be sure to pray for the pig's soul," she told him, which I'm sure was the last thing he wanted to hear at that moment.

Good evening, John.
Those flowers are beautiful. You must really enjoy your garden

 Hi, John

The tropical storm dumped on us yesterday. Lots of rain and lighting. :scaredofthat:No flooding here, but west of here was a lot. No loss of power.

With the HIGH humidity, it feels like Florida. My a/c is keeping the house cool and dry. Outside It's 98 at 2PM. The sun is out today. Maybe the high humidity will be gone soon.

Doesn't appear good for the Gators. They are given a 26% chance. My Holy Men should have no problem with Purdue with a 92% chance. USC (87%) should have no problem with Michigan State.

I get to watch the Gators, ND and USC tomorrow.

Hope you have a good weekend.
