are democrats going to seize the moment?

If you ask those populations about policies on the left, like Universal Healthcare stripped of its political jargon, a considerable proportion of the people who don't vote Left agree with it.

Last poll I saw showed that asked this way, 82% of Americans want Canadian-style health care, with those identifying as Republicans or aligning with Republicans came in at 64%. Those kind of figures should be driving Congresscritters to action; since it isn't, that says we have a bad way of choosing Congresscritters.
What have we done on the Left to organize that support?

What have I done?

What have you done?

I'm definitely not on the left, but I've been donating more than I can really afford to groups fighting Trump's actions.

Other than that, my disabilities prevent me from doing much -- at this point I'm not sure I could even join a protest (though I would love to do what I saw proposed as a way to screw with Trump's parade: a massive sit-in blocking the parade route).

I want an aggressive pick who is unashamed of being left, with a running mate that's equally aggressive

I want a ticket that looks like JFK and Eisenhower resurrected, but I don't think we have such statesmen any more. One of the Framers wrote that if the Constitution was going to work, the country needed a steady supply of statesmen; sadly these days mostly we just have grifters.

The right is always the side of caution and control, and when your personal world starts to unravel, the easy inclination is to want a more controlled world.

Are you really calling the right the side of caution and control?

That's absurd.

How the Dems are going to shoot themselves in the face again.

Sometimes I wonder if the GQP has so completely infiltrated the DNC that it is being purposely destroyed from within.

On a related note, three Democratic US House members have died since they were sworn into office in 2024. The margin in the House is very tight and the loss of three Democratic members is bad but two of three members were long-serving members which subject matter expertise. All three men were in their 70s!
  • Sylvester Turner [D-TX], died in January after attending the State of the Union address. The former mayor of Houston, he had been elected
  • in 2024 to replace Sheila Jackson-Lee, who died last year of cancer. His seat has not been filled.
  • Raul Grijalva [D-AZ], died in March. He had served in the US House for 22 years. His seat will be filled in a special election in July.
  • Gerry Connolly [D-VA], died yesterday after a long battle with cancer. He had been in the US House for 15 years.

In the spirit of bipartisanship, three Republican House members should volunteer to die. :devilish:
If Americans voted on that, turnout would be much higher.

Nope. Once againg, they punt. Another strongly worded letter? Why don't they fucking sue?
Jeffries is a wuss.

Dana Bash: What are you doing now that your red line has been crossed?

Hakeem Jeffries: We will make that decision in a time place and manner of our choosing

DB: What exactly does that mean?

HJ: We've publicly responded in a variety of ways, we will respond again if this continues to happen

As usual, the Dems seize the moment and shoot themselves in the foot.

But even worse...the Dems have apparently decided that there is no future for their party in the US.

Electing to stick with their failing strategy of chasing Republican voters and being good little footsoldiers for their corporate owners.

He resigned his vice-chair position. The DNC does need to pass rules to prevent their leadership from operating PACs and meddling in electoral politics.

That said, I hope Hogg brings in some new blood. It's time.

He was forced out though, by the establishment.

And the old guard Dems like Schumer and all the other do-nothings are going to lose the last of the fired up younger Dems to apathy and fringe party voting.

The Bernie supporters also wanted him out. There were accusations that the DNC shafted Bernie in favor of Hillary in 2016, so the Bernie contingent were pissed that Hogg was trying to be both a DNC chair and he wanted to pick candidates to give monetary support to. If I were a Democrat, I wouldn't want that either.

At this point, I don't think the Dems are even able to seize deez nuts.

Seen today:

"Mamdani should win but he's the latest example of the Democratic Party closing ranks to keep anyone young and exciting and full of energy out of the party - and then they spend countless millions on consultants trying to figure out why they're struggling with young voters"

Let's see how the billionaires put Cuomo into the position and further lose the younger voters to apathy and disgust with politics as usual.
