  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Are you a good cook?

I actually am a classically trained chef. I went to culinary school in Rhode Island, did an internship with Walt Disney World in Orlando and had been in the restaurant business for over 10 years as a head chef, restaurant manager and catering director before deciding that it was a much better hobby than career. I now give one hell of a dinner party and my partner eats well every night!

Italian food is my favorite, and I make some wonderful homemade soups...never been much of a master baker, though (say it a couple of times, you'll get it!)

I can cook very well thank you. I used to do the dinner party thingee, the casual brunch thingee, but got tired of doing it. I still on occaison do things but would rather call PIZZA SHUTTLE here in milwaukee.

i`m a good cook.....or at least, i`ve been told so. I love to eat and cook Chinse and Italian food and i can bake a litle.

Sherried Turkey Cutlets (though chicken works just as well). Simple, elegant, tasty.

I'm the cook in the family, and I'm quite good (no food poisoning yet!).

I always cook "healthy"...low fat and balanced.

I season to taste - so my dishes tend to vary...but baking is beyound me. Perhaps because I don't like sweets.

I am an excellent cook and baker. I never took classes or anything like that, I just have a love of being in the kitchen. My mother was an incredible cook and from watching her for years I developed skills and techniques that most people have no idea about.

Although I love cooking in general my favorite is baking. I bake a red velvet cake, and a 7 layer coconut cake with 7 minute icing that people have said are the best they've ever had. I had a very good Greek friend for many years and before she died she taught me a lot of the Greek pastry recipes which I make for all my friends at Christmas and on their birthdays. My baklava is incredible (and I don't make it the cheap way with honey like you get from most bakeries).

If anyone is interested in good online recipe sites, the best one I've found is http://www.recipegoldmine.com/. You can find recipes for anything and everything there and in most cases multiple recipes.

"Simple cooking to my own taste, but you'll never find a dirty plate or fork in my kitchen." In my long list of odd jobs, cook, dishwasher and baker figures amongst them. I have a huge garden but no herbs, they attract bugs. If i can get a property next year, it should be interesting to cook w/ homegrown veggies.

I'm famous for my Christmas pudding. Recipe is here, if you're interested ..... Ozguy's Famous Christmas Pudding
Kewl, i'll give it a try sometime. It had better be delicious *waves fist*

As for me, i'm an Ok cook. If it's on a recipe then i can usually cook it.
I hate to cook when i feel lazy though, nothing seems to come out right on those days. For some reason i sometimes get a sudden urge to cook and i end up making all sorts of cakes and desserts on the one impulse, which i never end up eating. Thank god for brothers.;)
I like to think of it as an art, which is probably why i don't like to eat my art (as corny as that sounds). :P

if i put my mind to it, i can hold my own - but i generally dont have the time, inclination or motivation to spend hours slaved over a stove after 13 hours at my desk.

That,s me. But i don't spend 13 hours at my desk, maybe 2.

I'm told I'm a really good cook. My specialty would probably be Tex-Mex food (Of course I'm from Texas!). Everyone always asks me to make my Tequila Lime Chicken Fajitas so I guess thats the dish I cook best. I've always wanted to go to culinary school but I'm not sure I would want to be a chef for a living more as a very in depth hobby. I don't know about anyone else but it relieves stress for me.

I am an excellent cook! Amateur Chef (hobby) to be more like it. I cooked in the family restaurant for years and have had the privelidge of seeing a good portion of the world and learning new dishes and techniques. I am well known for my asian inspired dishes - but prefer too always try new things. Here are a few dishes that I enjoy to make:

Pad Thai
General Tso's Chicken
Beer But Chicken :-)
Feijao Tropeiro (Brasilian Dish)
Feijoada (Brasilian Dish)
Skirt Steak with Chimmy Churry (Argentine Garlic Sauce)

...and much more. A date with me is an orgasmic sensory overload of culinary flavors and textures that will leave you quivering for more :-)

Alright...I guess.... ;)
Okay then - I've just read Mattad's post - we'll have that instead - he says it's orgasmic - that means that it will be free of artificial flavourings and no fear of crop spray ;)

Yes! I try very hard to keep everything organic and fresh! Enough with the pesticides, chemicals and hormones!

In my family, it's a pride thing about being a good cook. My grandfather was a chef in the Italian merchant marines, and in the Italian navy. His children (my aunt, my dad, and their two younger brothers) are all excellent cooks.

My late mother was a terrific cook, although it wasn't her favorite thing to do.

I have always had a natural talent in the kitchen, (among other places, hehehe). I love to plan, shop and prepare a meal. I can cook just about anything, but I tend to lean towards the Italian style cooking that I was raised with. :D

I am a very good cook, sometimes we cook together and it is fun also

I haven't killed anyone yet...
:dead:

My best dish is Chocolate Cheesecake.

I only make it for special people.

I like to believe so. It seems to come to be intuitively. But I'm terrible at remembering recipes...Improvising I'm splended with.

Today i was cooking chicken to prepare for canned Chicken a la King when I spontaneously changed my mind and added chopped muschrooms, greens, yellow onions, two cloves of garlic, and pine nuts, olive oil and apple juice. It was fantastic.
