  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Are you fucking serious?

I didn't think so until now...I just thought I found a funny article. Whatever it's stupid, I don't even want to read the ridiculous bitching, is there a way to delete this?

I refer to them as sexy. I don't know what it is...but ever since I saw what a bear Papa Surph was it's been a thing. Once you go blue.....Okay I just spent like five minutes trying to think of a clever way to end that, but it's 5:30 in the morning and I got nothing. so just make up something clever and pretend that's what I said.

How is it NOT a racist movie? They run around in loin clothes with cornrows for X's sake.

Shit, am I such an anachronistic old man that I am the only person left

remembering when sometimes movies were just entertsinment and didn't have to be
fucking social statements? :(#:>:##:
:(

The kids in my family love me because we stop at the convenience store and buy like $10 worth of candy and soda and junk-food before we head to the theater. They think I'm the best uncle EVER. ;)

Food for thought: Wouldn't it be racist to think that people wearing loincloths and cornrows must be minorities?

And the tables have turned, PC mafia.
What now?

I loved Avatar and thought it was a beautiful movie - will be going to see it again before it leaves theatres.

Stupid that people would have to bring up something that was a complete non-issue in the movie.

So which race exactly does this offend? The last I checked, there is no race of 10-foot, pointed ear, blue people on our planet. I hope for your own sake that you were just attempting to be funny.

Right, because there's no anthropological basis for that, especially not in tribal civilizations. Loincloths are always a faux pas. Or in your case, a fox pass.

Okay, I loved the movie. I thought it was extraordinary visually, and several performances, the two leads, made it even more so.

But I don't think we should dismiss the concerns of some minorities who see this as yet another film made by Hollywood that glorifies a Caucasian who saves the indigenous people from his evil white brothers. Time and again movies are made with the same theme and from the same perspective--here comes white man, and he's going to raise up the poor minorities. Have such figures existed in history? Of course they have, but we're still far away from having an equal number of films showing the many minority individuals who advanced the plight of their people. And as the article points out, it is interesting that the major "alien" parts are played by actors who are not Caucasian.

I'm not going to call others "too sensitive" when I don't share their experience and their hunger to see more representation of their peoples in a favorable light. I certainly don't want any straight people to tell me to get over the fact that most romantic comedies being made don't represent me, or that I am too sensitive because I never get to see a gay action hero save the day.

But the Na'vi were shown to be the hero's and the nice people and the "white" human's were the evil ones.

And if all movies were to start having all their main protagonists and heroes black then surely that would be racist too?

Sure, all of us should have equal representation, but it's just not logical to pick out this one movie.

It's things like this that are going to make it difficult for the real racist things to be addressed. It's becoming like "The boy who cried wolf"
