If are allowed to do some enlightened theorizing, then may we consider that the main character Jake Sulley was born a caucasian human male but self-identifies as a Na'Vi. One might say that while he was made into a Na'Vi male, he wasn't originally a Na'Vi. If a caucasian human male was to self-identify as a caucasian human female and was made into a female, would we also say that this individual wasn't originally a woman?
I have not in any of my previous posts, nor in my current post, said that any person of a race other than caucasian's feelings are invalid because they feel offended by the stereotypes that may exist in the movie Avatar.
I have said that those who are saying that humans are a race are misinformed as human is not a race. Google it. It is, in fact, a species. Not a single character in the movie stated at any point that human is a race. Na'Vi may be a species or a race, I don't honestly know and rather than start a crusade based on facts that I am unaware of, I will say that I don't know.
Now as far as others crying out against comments made by caucasians, you only address half of my heritage. I say that because I am also half native american. My mother's family is from the Fort Berthold indian reservation in New Town, North Dakota. Yes, I'm actually Arikara and my family is of the waterbuster clan. There are many parallels between the culture of the Na'Vi and the Arikara. My mother saw the movie and she loved the fact that the Na'Vi won their land back. She says that there is a ceremony that adopts outsiders into the clan and that they are Arikara after that, no longer considered as an outsider. My uncle Nathan was the whistle holder for the Dead Grass Society until his passing. My great-grandmother was one of our tribe's medicine women.
I don't see that my race(s) should matter in relation to what I post about a movie, but since race is being called into a question by some, I felt that I should clear things up and state that I am multi-racial.
I don't mind the fact that some people are reading way too much into this, however I do mind the fact that other people comment about things that they know nothing about. It's like a straight person lamenting the shit that we gays have to go through. It's very thoughtful, but you will never understand what a gay man goes through on a daily basis. I face it all the time and excuse me for not wanting to hear you talk about it in an effort to enlighten me. I'm sorry, I truly am.
I'm not upset at anybody. Seriously, I'm not mad. I just want you to think for a moment before you start talking. That really isn't a lot to ask for, at least not in my humble opinion.
As for my thoughts about this movie? Honestly, the plot was shit. I will admit that it had it's moments, but not many of them. The visuals were fucking AWESOME.
