Are You Ready For The iPhone?

The EDGE network that AT&T runs had a significant boost (inexplicably as reported by users) on the Thursday before the launch of the iPhone. While I would have loved to have it 3G, not everywhere in the US has the ability to run 3G. What good is having the technology that you can't use if you don't live in a city that has it?

hahaha, you cant do internet without 3G on a mobile. how funny, cause people have been using full internet without 3G quite nicely actually. and it is working quite fine for them. 3G took off ok here in America idiot. the iPhone, or more likely AT&T doesnt use 3G. Pretty much all other phone companies use 3G, and of course seeing how we designed most of those phones (probably Japan more) I dont see how we are too stupid to understand 3G.

All those phones are no where near the iPhone. NO WHERE! They don't compare what so ever. And its full Google Maps. Not some watered down version stuffed on a phone. Like one of those up there.

Really? Do you mind telling me what the iPhone does better then the K850i?

You fail. Nokia = Finland, Sony Ericsson = Sweden + Japan. Both are the top manufacturers of mobile technology in the world, and the iPhone is shit in comparison to the N95 and K850i.
I like how you so graciously left out my comment after where I mentioned that Japan probably designed them more. I doubt the British designs anything (although i love my Brits)

lol, so true. I wont be buying a iPhone because its too expensive, but it is worth the money. And I couldnt care less for a smart phone. Still, your comments have no merrit calling the iPhone mediocre. But after reading your comments on liking Microsoft (do you like geeks/nerds), I guess your just ranting at Macheads.

edit://and your attack on Americans being stupid. just way too many people america bashing, its so annoying. you have the same problems, but like the rant about how your country doesnt do that (yeah right)

^yeeeeah, that is heavily edited. you can go to London and do that, and it wouldn't be any different. They would just have a british accent.

The iPhone also has WiFi and a full internet browser. It also has a widescreen iPod built into it. Didn't see that in the specs on the N95 + K850i.

I wasn't going to even reply, but then again, when your name is "Cum Slave" and you have an icon of an x-ray blowjob I guess I can only expect but so much. I'm not here on a personal attack like you seem to be. I get it, you don't like the iPhone, you love Nokia. I initially posted because I was excited about the iPhone and wanted to know if other people were similarly interested. You stated many times on this board you do not like it in the least, then you went off on an anti-American rant which is extremely off-topic and un-called for, so please leave this board to people who from now on prefer to talk about the iPhone and not about other phones or "bash boards", thank you.

I had an iPod, I also had a cellphone, and I had a laptop computer, isntead of taking all 3 with me wherever I go I got the iPhone. It is made by Apple, who made the iPod, thus its similarly featured and user-friendly, as well as my iBook laptop. Obiously the iPhone isn't for everyone. A lot of "Mac-heads" will buy it because they want something new or different but still familiar. I've never said it's better than any other phone out there, it was just the phone I wanted. Deal with it, it's not an affront to you or Nokia or anybody else.

This is my last post on this subject because obviously you just like to respond over and over again hoping a different answer. I had an iBook, therefore I had iTunes. If you're going to ask me why I like iTunes, I don't know, it's easy to use and it works seamlessly with an iPod. Now I'm sure you'll ask me why I use iTunes and not Urge or Napster or some other music download service, but i've already gotten myself off track. It was the best option for me. I already had all my music in iTunes and on an iPod, so when the iPhone came out it only made sense to get that and not carry around a phone and an iPod. That may not even be the perfect answer you're looking for, but I'm sure a lot of people's answers would be the same, rather than carrying around an iPod and a cell phone they'd rather have the iPhone. And if you ask me why I like the iPod better than the Zune, or the Sansa or whatever the hell else is out there I don't know, I like what I like, stop getting your panties in a bunch about it and move on with your life. Go pester someone else's board now.

so apple have locked you in then with itunes downloads you can only play them on an ipod because apple won't licence the drm to anyone else which is the whole point to lock you into apple and to buy their ipods and i phones ect. ect.

Buy all your music on cd's and rip them not only does it usually cost less but you have the full high quality cd there as a back up rather then just an encoded song and you can play it on whatever player you want

if you want a music phone check this out

OFC they could. They could just interview all the scumbag Chavs we have rotting up this once great country.

Name a country begining with A - Addidas
Whats your favorite colour? - Burburry
How many sides does a square have? - Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurrrrrrhhhhhhh
i like how you think all your countrymen are intelligent. they wouldn't have to interview any Chavs. they'd just interview anyone at random ask them a bunch of questions and then edit out all the ones they got right. its so simple and easy.

As for the Ipod software, it really isnt anything better then the media player already present on the Nokia + SE handets.

Ever heard of the walkman phones? I bought an Ipod and it was the biggest waste of money ever. So would be the Iphone.

I just remembered reading that neither SE or Nokia actually have sold well in America. Because they obviously dont care about technology (showing that they dont understand it) and would rather just have a phone as a fashion/status symbol.
its so funny how stupid you are. americans tend to spend more on technology than you brits. we care more about technology than you could wish to, and then there is MIT itself. Sure you have Cambridge and Oxford, but are they renowned for their technology classes?

Silly silly brit. Just because we don't buy those crap phones doesnt mean we don't understand them. It just means we don't want them and the company don't know how to market the phones, if they even bothered to.

Re: It's confirmed sorry Kins123

Why would anyone want to buy such a mediocre phone for soooo much money? It only has a 2MP camera. It isnt even 3G. I use my phone to connect to the net. The upcoming sony ericsson K850i which will be my next purchase will be 3.5G HSDPA with up to 3.6 mbps internet speed, and it has a 5mp camera.

Why should I waste money on a useless phone like the iPhone?

Simply put, and I mean to insult everyone that bought one of these shitty things, the iPhone is for the consumer that knows F* all about modern technology or how to use it. I bet at least 75% of the people that buy the iPhone cant even spell 3G, or realise what they are missing out on buy buying such a shoddy piece of apple's brown faeces. Oh wait a minute.... They were americans. No wonder.

The only way to go for browsing in the UK is via T-Mobile and web'n'walk on a 3G handset.

And before you even bother with the 'But but... it has 8 gigs for all my music OMG!'.....

The 8 gig of memory and the battery are both internal and cannot be changed by the user. If either one fails, something that does happen a fair bit on mobile phones, good luck getting it fixed and getting your 8 gigs of data back.

I'm sorry but you are just plain ignorant. There has been so much hatred in your replies and all because you don't like a phone? You just don't realise how revolutionary this phone is. I'm not going to bother listing reasons why the phone is great, you won't listen anyway.

You seen the pics Soilwork posted taken by his iPhone? Best photos I've seen from a phone.

I'm not "locked into the iPod", I chose the iPod just like I chose to use a Mac over a PC. Nothing is perfect, people choose what they like, the Nokia may be one persons preference, the iPhone may be someone else's. But like I said, this board is just too argumentative at this point. But when someone assumes I'm being owned by Apple or I was forced to use the iPod and iTunes, I bought an iBook and an iPod Mini at the same time 4 years ago. So I was still a relatively early adopter, it wasn't a fad. I CHOOSE what I like, apparently some people can't get that through their heads. And I CHOSE it because I like the ease of use, I like the wide selection, and simply put no other online store can match iTunes wide variety of books, music, movies, shows, and podcasts.:-)

I think people who get hung up on specific features are missing the big picture here, just like they did with the iPod, which was also more expensive and had fewer features than the competition. (Assuming the iPhone is really even targeted at the existing smartphone market... Apple seems to want to redefine this market into something much broader and more lucrative, which may explain why they feel like they can be so cavalier about refusing to compete on the terms set by the current players. They may figure that the current smartphone market isn't even a drop in the bucket compared to the other ~99% of cellphone users who might be willing to pay for the Internet in their pocket, but have so far rejected all the current offerings.) People sometimes forget that a product is more than the sum of its features. On paper, gadget 'B' may appear to have better features for the money than gadget 'A', but if A is slick, innovative, well thought out, well designed and a pleasure to use, and B is clunkier than a Soviet tractor built on a Monday, then A stands a good chance of mopping the floor with B in the marketplace. Of course, some people will grasp at any half-baked explanation for this phenomenon - everyone else must be victims of hype, slaves to fashion, just plain dumb, etc - while the more likely explanation flies right over their head: a lot of thinking people would rather have a gadget that excels at 95% of what they want it for than one that does 125%, but does it all more or less poorly.

Case in point - the 'iPod killer' from Sony that ended up committing suicide instead. It looked good on paper, but you knew it was doomed the minute its crappy interface managed to stump a Sony exec during a demo. Did they even try to understand what they were competing against? This is why I think other cellphone manufacturers are going to have various tasty high-end bits of their lunch eaten by Apple - they don't understand how to compete against anything that can't be reduced to an entry in a bullet point list on a marketing brochure. And even if they manage to 'get it' and understand that the problem is a systemic one of overall design and not just a case of this or that missing feature, they lack the skill and corporate culture to address it, because their product design has always been left in the hands of engineers and graphic/industrial designers, rather than people with a background in the science of human-computer interaction. The results are sadly predictable - products that are cool-looking on the surface and technically competent under the hood, but which turn out to be downright hostile to the user in real day-to-day use. (Anyone who finds this topic as interesting as I do [cue sound of deafening silence] might want to check out the book, 'The Design of Everyday Things'.)

I'm seeing the same thing with the iPhone in review after review - it's a bit pricey, tied to a mediocre network, has some perplexing omissions in its feature set, etc... yet the reviewer would still take it over their current phone because the iPhone is so much better at what it does that it's a revelation - everything is so intuitive and obvious that you can't believe every phone hasn't always worked the same way. I especially liked the BBC reviewer who noted that the first thing using an iPhone made him feel was anger toward all the other cellphone makers for having foisted so much poorly designed junk on people for so long.

My lists of warez and torrent sites would disagree ;)

I currently have almost 26,000 songs, 800+ ebooks, 243 movies/shows and 4 gig of mixed 'pod' casts :)

Ya see if you had just made your point and left it at that without going on to brag about iTunes and how 'no other online store' yadda yadda there would have been no problems but typical of many Mac/iPod/iPhone users you have to go on and slate everyone else (by proxy). This is why PC users get so annoyed (outraged even) with Apple users.

The iTunes store was slammed by the EU over its practices (antitrust - sound familiar?).

Heh. And this is why Apple users get exasperated with those annoyed PC users - they have a habit of completely missing the point when they get on their high horse. :p

I mean seriously, dude - you're comparing warez to a legit store. You can get pirated stuff with/for your Apple gear just as easily as you can on the other side of the fence, if not more so. I won't get into details, but let's just say that the helpful conspiratorial cliquishness and ease of use of the Mac extends to that area too, and then some...

See, this is why no one's ever going to catch up with the iPhone - Apple's been working on it since the 80s:
