Are You Ready For The iPhone?

This thread is really pissing me off now. You've made your point Cum_Slave! We get it, you don't want an iPhone. Please don't insult people who say they want one! Heck, you even insulted a whole country. If that's not reason enough to ban you then I don't know what is.

Every phone has problems whether it is missing features or has some bugs, people seem to take it upon themselves to identify every single problem the iPhone has and blow it way out of proportion! Please remember this is the first gen iPhone, the first ever phone Apple has made. How long has Nokia been making phones for?

//end rant

yes they do

but according to apple fanboy's the iphone Doesn't
I was told that the iphone takes better photos than a 3.2 -5.0 Mp auto focus camera phone the funny thing some people believe it

ok well i got a iPhone the other day as a gift. and let me say....if anything is gonna screw up the iphone it will be AT&T/Cingular's idiocy. i took my phone home and pluged it in and went through the setup/activation system, but because i have no credit it wodulnt finish and told me to take the phone into the nearest ATT store and get a "pre-approved credit check number" so i was like...grr ok.

i walked to the local ATT store half a block from my house (a REAL store not one of those "authorized retailer" things) i walk in and tell them whats up and the kid working there was liek "umm whats a credit check number?" he asked his co worker who also had no idea, so they call thier customer support line and ask, and then tell me "you go to apple.com and get your number" i doubt it but i go home and check...yea NOTHING on apple. so i call the 1800 ATT number and ask one of thier reps. the lady on the phone was like "ok can you hold while i ask my manger? i just want ot make sure i give you the right info" after a min or two on hold she comes back and tells me "you have to go into your local apple store and they are able to issue your number"

soo....then i call the apple store and ask them what the heck is going on. the apple guy tells me (as i figured) "apple has nothing to do with your credit or service...ATT does that" so i grab my phone and drive out to ANOTHER ATT store. where they finaly understand whats going on and are able to charge me a $150 deposit (wich is bullcrap cuz no other service provider wanted a deposit from me)

then i finaly go home, put in the number, and phone gets up and running.....3 hours after i first bought my phone...i dont blame Apple at all, they worked perfectly, they called me at home the seccond thier new shippment got in and did everything they coudl to help me. but it was due to ATT's stupidity that im so mad. the iPhone is the most hyped up phone in ages and still most of thier service reps have no clue how to activate one.

I agree with you 100% about at&t/cingular. the non-franchised store service is almost as bad as the real franchised store service. Another thing i noticed in the switch - at&t is expiring large chunks of my rollover minutes every month. When i signed up under cingular it was under the condition that my rollover minutes would never expire - it seems like a service that was so heavily touted would have been grandfathered into existing contracts.

Apple and at&t are rolling around in the sheets together now - where at&t gains exclusivity to every cellular hardware produced. Limiting choices for consumers and effectively gaining non-competitive enviroinment.

I love apple and wish them the greatest success - but imho they are not out of the woods in this matter.

^^ Well said. I however will continue rambling about how shit the iPhone is, because it is pure shit. Apple fanboys that buy an iPhone really are not high tech Smartphone users, they are just general average joeys that think 'wow! Apple fone ftw' and buy it on impulse to look cool. Obviously they then think 'OMG this is the best fone eva' since they have never had a decent high end phone before.

Anyone that wants or needs a decent smartphone for actual hi-tech use will not buy the iPhone. Anyone that needs a low cost handset for calls and texts will not buy the iPhone, at least in europe/asia anyway. It is seriously lacking in every area in comparison to the SE and Nokia equivalents that exist outside of america. It competly loses out in every area of the market. Oh and if you want a phone that just looks nice above anything else?

Hello Sony Ericsson T650i and LG Prada.

The competition outside of america is too fierce to apple to cope with such a shit product, They know it just as much as anyone outside of America does, hence why the iPhone didnt get a worldwide launch like SE and Nokia and Motorolla etc handsets get.
i think from now on, I will never buy a Nokia or SE phone.

"the cell phone market is so fierce apple doesnt have a chance" :roftlmao:

darling, they are Apple. apart from being a very well trusted company (more trusted than MS) they probably have one of the best advertising teams in the world. they know how to market and wont have a problem when the arrive in the Europe and Asian markets. sure Nokia and SE had worldwide release, but i doubt the went flying off the shelves in a week. they were able to release them worldwide because they knew that they wouldn't have to worry about running out of their phones.

ohhhh you crack me up so much.

i find it funny how i literally own not one apple product, but I am sitting here defending them left and right.

America seems to miss out on alot of phones due to the networks not supporting global standards
i read the w880i doesn't work on the 3g networks there

then half the phones are exclusive to a particular network which is pretty much non existent here all the phone are released on most of the networks at the same time

the biggest problem for the iphone here is the only network which has the us standard EDGE is Telstra and there phone plans are crap and customer service pretty poor i know alot of people who won't go with them because it is telstra

and if they go with optus or vodafone it would be so slow GPRS data and three is only 3g so no go there

So who is going to buy the iPhone? American tourists.
that makes no sense seeing how it is the same price in Europe as in America. Not to mention a few things will be a little different because it is in Europe and not America. Plenty of british citizens will be buying the iPhone. I know dont want to believe it, but they will. And no, it wont just be chavs (arnt they all broke anyway?) normal everyday Brits.

i wont bother with the rest of your post. your impossible with your complete and utter devotion to SE and Nokia. But i do want to talk about your talking about them selling the most phones. Thats kind of obvious seeing how their business is to sell, create, and promote cellphones.

YOU are fiercly loyal to SE and Nokia. Not all of Europe and Asia.

I'm both surprised and unsurprised (if that's allowed) that no one has pointed out that the iPhone is not just locked into AT&T but that it's also locked into Apple and iTunes.

Your activation goes through iTunes and on to AT&T and you have to download iTunes 7.3 to get the phone to work - this is monopolising at its worse. Also if you upgrade the software (which is obligatory as its done automatically) you have re-activate the phone or else all you can do is make 911 calls - all other features of the phone are disabled until its activated and if AT&T don't activate it within a certain amount of time the phone is completely disabled again and you have to go through the activation process all over again.

I foresee some serious complaints ahead if the iPhone gets used for any serious purposes and users find themselves constantly in upgrade/deactivation/activation loops.
Well the company who made it is Apple. So naturally they are going to lock it into iTunes only. Why would they allow their product be used to boost the sells of their competitors?

^lol that is true, gotta admit. but Apple has plans to allow third party apps onto the phone before the release of Leopard so people will be allowed to use other stuff. They will NEVER allow anything other than iTunes though, I am for sure.

yeah, Apple makes most of their money from software and stuff like that. and that is fucked up that you do have to use their headsets, but apparantly they are awsome anyway so it isnt all that bad.

you know, i didnt realize it was you Noelie seeing how you changed your sig and avatar.

Jesus wept - the K850i is being shown on the SE website as having 5mp

And the T650i is just beautiful with a 3.2mp camera and mineral glass screen
What makes you think iTunes upgrades automatically?
The iPhone comes from the factory will only 911 enabled. You need to activate it thru iTunes. Do you have a source that says the phone will deactivate if iTunes is updated? I find this hard to believe. I've done dozens of software updates and my iPod and iTunes music still works just fine.
Try getting rid of IE on Windoze 98. Where did you learn to talk out of both sides of your mouth at the same time? No, I really want to know, in case I become a politician.:^o

yea that is so fair to compare a piece of about 10 year old software to a brand new product

plus back then weren't there only 2 apple users you and the other guy ;)

Everyone that has owned a T610 in the past (myself included) are going to want a T650.

I had a T610 but I do not want a T650, looks quite ugly IMO.

By the way, how much memory does the T610 have? And the N95? Am I reading it right that the T610 has 16MB?

If The iphone had a 5MP camera and 3.6 Mbps HSDPA I would love one. But that is not the case.

I bet that if the iPhone was made by Nokia or SE then you would be saying how great it is. As I said before you are blowing the problems WAY out of proportion. If you are so concerned about a camera then you would go and buy a real one. I'd be more concerned about the 16MB memory the T650 has.

This is way more than you not liking the iPhone you are just anti-Apple. And BlackWolf proved that it isn't just Apple "Fanboi's" defending it. He hasn't got any Apple products but he knows a good product when he sees one.

its called a memory card and i dont know about over there but they are giving away 1Gb cards with new phone purchases here

if you want something with 8 Gb then you would want this one

I dont care at all for nokia or sony ericssons mid line products, they are all junk too. If nokia of SE had made the current iPhone, that is what it would be, a mid line product.

By T610 im hoping you mean T650i. The T650i has 16 meg memory onboard but it has expandable memory which currently supports 4 gig cards. The K850i has been rumored to support memory cards of up to 16 gig.

The memory on the iPhone is not expandable.

Hmm, 16MB and a load of cards I need to take with me or 8GB and not ever need to take around cards with me. Hard choice...

Plus - the headphone socket on the iPhone is set into it in such a way that you can't use alternative regular headphones - unless of course some OEMs step in and pay big license fees to Apple to make 'accessories' for the iPhone and everyone (even Apple fanboys) have admitted that Apple can't make decent headphones (isn't that where Apple made loads of money from with the iPod? Accessories that is...yawn).

Adapters for standard headphones are already available from lots of third parties.

They cost about $10, but certainly will come down in price as the market matures.

This post is like the energizer bunny, it just keeps going and going and going. The iPhone headphone port sucks because you need an adapter, amd it is slower on the Edge service. There, 2 flaws. And anyone who knows anything about Apple should have realized that a phone that includes an IPOD is going to only work with iTunes. I don't think anyone bought an iPhone and was then like "Crap, you have to use iTunes with this?" And even people in America (mainly Microsoft) was saying Apple would do poorly with the iPhone, so people can talk all they want about how it won't sell elsewhere, but just wait and see and I think you'll be surprised. And yeah, not really a good argument ender, but those Nokia phones are ugly as sin. At least the iPhone is pretty.:-)

Re. the 2.5G vs 3G adoption, it's a pity that the country that bought into mobile phones in a big way (the U.S.) has a big investment in older technology. The real winners will be Africa and Asia where their was little infrastucture so theirs will be the most up-to-date. I'm so happy that 3G is so widespread on the island that is UK, the land of impossible to use phone service and also the land of Oz where the inhabitants will no longer have to write out messages and put them in a kangaroo's pouch for delivery;)

I have no doubts that the Europe version of the iPhone will be 3G.

So, from what I understand, Apple has sold about a million phones in a week compared to the MS Zune *being on target* to sell 1 million in the first 6 months.

In case you are interested, the iPhone is not available in Canada and if it was, I still wouldn't buy one as my 4 y/o motorola still does everything I need. It makes and receives phone calls. If I wanna take pictures, I'll take my digital 6 megapixel camera with me.

And no, I am not currently a shareholder in Apple Inc.:(
