Are You Ready For The iPhone?

ilounge is an Apple fanboy website but it's quite honest about the shortcomings of the iPhone (and other Apple products) while not being overly critical or overly evangelical which is quite refreshing. :D

Which pretty much describes every Apple site I've spent time on. I think most of the excessive fanboyism you see in places like JUB is only there because some people go out of their way to provoke it.

Which reverses the responsibility for it and in effect says that other people cause Apple fans to be the way they are and that its not something they 'suffer from' themselves which TBH is BS.

I'd like to bring your attention to a lot of the other threads here where Apple people have stepped in to provoke it first by telling PC users to 'get an Apple' to fix a broadband issue or a printing issue etc. but the one time I got involved in an Apple support question and said get a PC I was told to leave the forum.

An example from just last week with a Windows Defender issue:

http://www.justusboys.com/forum/showthread.php?p=2831652#post2831652

Regardless of whether or not it's true its not helpful and certainly not welcome when there's a Mac support question (and if you look through those you'll see that PC users either don't go near them or else try to answer the question helpfully).

well i always try and help

searching for solutions for them but i would do that for anyone if i could help

It's not BS at all, noelie. Just look at this thread. It was pretty reasonable until someone came along and started slinging insults left and right. The responsibility for that absolutely does rest with the person who instigated it. To claim otherwise is a bit like calling a complete stranger a stupid smelly bastard to his face and then complaining that he can't take criticism when he pops you one in the face. Those obligatory 'get a Mac' type posts can get a bit grating even to a Mac user like me, but they hardly justify the kind of abuse you see on threads like this one.

Regardless of whether or not it's true its not helpful and certainly not welcome when there's a Mac support question (and if you look through those you'll see that PC users either don't go near them or else try to answer the question helpfully). The fact of the matter is that Mac/Apple users come across as being terribly insecure despite how much they rave about the products and this insecurity shows itself in how much they put down the opposition instead of just sitting back and being smugly content that they have the better product (in their collective opinion that is).

Mac users probably rave about their platform for the same reason gay guys go on about how proud they are to be gay. Minorities have a tendency to develop a kind of defensive siege mentality, and sometimes they go overboard with the boosterism as a result. Unfortunately everyone's prone to it, even people who are a minority of a minority - you should see the holy wars that erupt regularly between Carbon and Cocoa developers on the Mac.

Argh motorola kill it kill it now

what is your 3g like up in canada?
AJ, I dont have to kill it. Its just about there now:)

The largest mobile service in Canada is Rogers. For phone service it is GPRS which initially was 2 Mbsec and has been upgraded to 2.5. It is called EDGE. This service covers Canada. They rolled out their HSDPA network in the Toronto area last fall. It has a theoretical d/l speed of 10 Mbsec but is currently operating closer to 1.5. Plans for extension of this network are not public.

Other phone companies are Bell Canada and Telus. I'm not sure who is on the left coast. (It's a 8 day drive from here)

AJ, I'm outta here for a couple of days. When I get back I'll take a pic of my *Motor-oila* and post it...|

Re: It's confirmed sorry Kins123

Cum_Slave your first post in this thread was aggressive, no wonder this thread has turned from a harmless topic about the iPhone to a heated debate.

Why would anyone want to buy such a mediocre phone for soooo much money? It only has a 2MP camera. It isnt even 3G. I use my phone to connect to the net. The upcoming sony ericsson K850i which will be my next purchase will be 3.5G HSDPA with up to 3.6 mbps internet speed, and it has a 5mp camera.

Why should I waste money on a useless phone like the iPhone?

Simply put, and I mean to insult everyone that bought one of these shitty things, the iPhone is for the consumer that knows F* all about modern technology or how to use it. I bet at least 75% of the people that buy the iPhone cant even spell 3G, or realise what they are missing out on buy buying such a shoddy piece of apple's brown faeces. Oh wait a minute.... They were americans. No wonder.

The only way to go for browsing in the UK is via T-Mobile and web'n'walk on a 3G handset.

And before you even bother with the 'But but... it has 8 gigs for all my music OMG!'.....

The 8 gig of memory and the battery are both internal and cannot be changed by the user. If either one fails, something that does happen a fair bit on mobile phones, good luck getting it fixed and getting your 8 gigs of data back.

I don't mean to sound nasty or anything but looking at your link in your sig, do you really believe that crap? It's a scam and I'm not sure you are allowed to link using affiliate URL's which will make you money.

Here is the link which won't earn Cum_Slave money - http://www.wealthyaffiliate.com/

Wow, for only $29.99/month you could make $360,000/year!!!!

WW

Using this thread as an example doesn't work AFAIC - the insults on this thread weren't about Mac/Apple users - they were to do with nationalities. In fact the very first insult thrown was completely about Americans - it was nothing to do with the Apple vs MS debate or whatever.

Sure it does - an Apple product's the topic of the whole thread and the reason for the insults in the first place. It's the same kind of he man Apple haters club whingeing that you can find right before an equally obnoxious counterattack of fanboyism just about anywhere on the internet. The gun might have been leveled - bizarrely - at Americans in general, but the ammo's the same. I've seen enough of it to know.

Erm really? I were told that the iPhone is the best phone ever by apple fanboy A and that there were no reasons to give why it was, and also that its camera takes the best pictures out of all mobile phones by apple fanboy B.

Expect me to get very very pissed off.

I dont regret what I typed at all, nor do I regret pissing off apple fanboys. It made them post their idiotic comments like the ones I mentioned.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. You wanted a fight, so you picked one. You wanted some fanboyism to sink your teeth into, so you stirred some up.

People like to accuse Apple/Mac users of zealotry, but I ask you this - if person A just gets a little carried away gushing over a new gadget he's stoked about, and person B responds by launching into a frothing-at-the-mouth tirade, who's really the zealot?

^ Well, we're going to have to agree to disagree, because the content of his attacks from the start was pretty much indistinguishable to me from the sort of anti-Apple tirades I've seen all too many times. (Speaking of logic hoops, I'd like to see the one you're skipping through to make the case that a tirade about Americans being stupid for buying a 'shitty' product was somehow only attacking Americans and not the product - particularly when he started off saying he meant to insult anyone who'd want to buy the thing, the 'oh right, Americans' bit being tacked on at the end.)

In any case, he was glad for the shit storm he stirred up. Nothing taken out of context there - he said it flat out. I don't think it's exactly making a huge leap of logic to conclude that that was exactly what he was aiming for in the first place, especially when you consider how belligerent and insulting he was from the get go.

actually, from Cum_slaves posts. he is very much a Nokia and SE fanboy and was very zealotry with his post on his inability to understand why ANYONE would actually buy a iPhone.

Apple fanboys use Spin

America seems to miss out on alot of phones due to the networks not supporting global standards
i read the w880i doesn't work on the 3g networks there

then half the phones are exclusive to a particular network which is pretty much non existent here all the phone are released on most of the networks at the same time

the biggest problem for the iphone here is the only network which has the us standard EDGE is Telstra and there phone plans are crap and customer service pretty poor i know alot of people who won't go with them because it is telstra

and if they go with optus or vodafone it would be so slow GPRS data and three is only 3g so no go there

no response to reasonable and calm no way to spin it

What makes you think iTunes upgrades automatically?
The iPhone comes from the factory will only 911 enabled. You need to activate it thru iTunes. Do you have a source that says the phone will deactivate if iTunes is updated? I find this hard to believe. I've done dozens of software updates and my iPod and iTunes music still works just fine.
Try getting rid of IE on Windoze 98. Where did you learn to talk out of both sides of your mouth at the same time? No, I really want to know, in case I become a politician.:^o

100% spin iphone is better than 10 year old software or maybe its so crap it needs to be compared to 10 year old software;)

its called a memory card and i dont know about over there but they are giving away 1Gb cards with new phone purchases here

if you want something with 8 Gb then you would want this one
here
GPD_46202_1516_0_4000.png

no direst response at all but below is the spin ignore the phone that you have been told about because it has this feature and try and attack the one which does not

Hmm, 16MB and a load of cards I need to take with me or 8GB and not ever need to take around cards with me. Hard choice...

well i always try and help

searching for solutions for them but i would do that for anyone if i could help

of course there is no response here why would you even bother trying to spin it you could look through the thread history and see that i have always tried to help people with a mac or pc or ipod if they had a problem

i pretty much never get a response unless i add something for a fanboy to attack which i have often done just so they would respond since reason and logic gets thrown out the Windows© ;)

Yeah yeah iphone. but have you guys considered alternatives? i hate to call it alternatives coz some of it are even better than i phone.

Look here.

the Samsung f700 is the only one i would consider clearly beyond the iPhone and yet i would buy none of them including the iphone because they all have one fatal flaw for me size

yes its true what they say size does matter ;)

my phone, mp3 player and my mini in the pics below

Top #1 reason?

Its soooo pretty.

The kinda phone ya wanna bring home to your mom!

Its sooo pretty ya just wanna lick it.

Forget all reason and logic and just buy it cos its soooo pretty.

That kinda says it all IMO (!)

Sounds exactly like Vista!

*runs*

Ya know - looking back over the thread (and ignoring ww's failure of logic and Cum_Slave's xenophobia) it is actually quite a good thread as it shows how passionately people believe in technology and how rigorously they'll defend what they believe to be a good product (in either direction). IMO it has actually been a good exercise all in all. :)

If you can ignore the gaps in my logic, I'll overlook your blind spot when it comes to Apple, and we'll call it even. ;)

What's ironic is that I don't really feel all that passionate about the iPhone per se... I think it's an intriguing little gadget with a lot of potential, but at this point I have no interest in actually owning one. I think I was mostly drawn to this thread because the iPhone debate seems to be the Apple/PC debate in a nutshell - the iPhone really seems to encapsulate whatever it is about pretty much everything Apple does that inspires admiration from some people and scorn from others.

I still love you wascallywabbit ;)

Right back at you ;)

Hi there all:-)
This thread seems to be a battle between the UK and the US.
I just started an I-Phone vs Nokia n95 thread. See now it was unnessecary.
Think the I-phone is definately innovative but unfortunalety it has a great deal of limitations.
The precious posters are right about the lack of 3g is one.
And ofcourse the camera.
Steve Jobs the Apple President is very clever though.
All creds to him.
He announces that Apple will release a phone call I-phone long before it´s finished in developing and the the rest of the pr is done by Mac-fans on the net in different forums etc.
He gets this pr totally free and its worth millions of dollars.
The other phone manufacturers are green of envy. They do this](*,)
Regards Pat xx:wave:
