Are you scared of growing old?

I just read an article in Scientific American on aging...it is predicted within 25-30 years (so I will be in my 40s/50s) humanity will have effectively cured aging and the only way we can die is through disease or trauma.

Right. As if we aren't having any problems dealing with the population explosion today and keeping everyone fed. Should be a real treat if nobody is dying anymore.

Soylent Green, anyone?

Scared of growing old? Hell no! Can't help it anyway!! ](*,)

Looking forward to growing older? Hell no! But, can't help it anyway! #-o

Much to my surprise, I just turned 59! However, unless I do something stupid, like look in a mirror, or skip a few stairs, I still THINK that I'm 25! :slap:

Yes, I've acquired more, and more, regrets. But, it's already too late to remedy any of those. The main one is ... I can't go "back" knowing what I know NOW!! Should I have called it "quits" in my mid to late teens when I did know Everything?
Nope! Not a good answer! [-X

My parents turned 83 this year. Their "take" is that each new day is more of an adventure! You never know what might be coming at you next! And, a lot of that can be quite amusing and entertaining! They are the ones that have taught me to be able to Laugh at Myself! (Which ties into gmoney's excellent sig line.)

I have a friend who is 101! Her main surprise is that she's still here! Luckily she still has all of her "faculties", AND a great sense of Humor!! :rotflmao:

And, that is why I always say ... no matter what ...

Keep smilin'!!(*8*)

Trust me ... You do NOT want to die, at ANY age! However, it will happen when it happens.

I am scared of growing old in away. I dnot know what it could be...

Slips

All I can tell you is that as you get older, time goes faster and faster. You've heard that before but it is terribly true. Get moving!

Indeed. It's all a 'perceived' passage of time.

In Canada and the United States, the average lifespan for men is approximately 76 years. If asked, a man would usually respond that he had lived 'half his life' when he turned (turns) 36.

However, with the 'perceived passage of time' factored in, the 'perceptual' halfway point in his life occurred (occurs) between the ages of 20 and 25.

(I can't find anything about this on the Net. I remember Jay Ingram talking about it on Daily Planet.)

I am not afraid of growing old, just afraid of doing it alone, without a partner.

You're graduating from college soon -- and you're 22. You've got it made. Don't regret anything. Just go forth, young man, and make the most of each day.

You young guys need to man up and quit worrying about things you can change and just do it. It's the things you can't change that will need your attention as you move on in years. Making moves now to change situations that you can will give you experience and self confidence to handle the crap thats coming down the pike. Believe me, there will be crap coming. Outside of a few tragic events thrown my way, it's been a great life and getting older is just part of the game. Nobody gets a pass on this one.

May you be granted the Serenity to accept the things you can not change,
the Courage to change the things you can,
and the Wisdom to know the difference. _ A.A.'s "Serenity Prayer" (paraphrased)

My mom has told me the same thing :P

I mean I'm not scared of dying and I love life but I just can't picture myself growing older and enjoying it. My youth is what makes me want to take advantage of each day that I have. Its just depressing to me that as I get older I'll keep on debilitating. Maybe one day I will see it in a different light but I'm thinking ahead past my twenties, as sad and stupid as that sounds.

Sorry about the cliches, but the thing about cliches is that if there wasn't a grain of Truth to them, they wouldn't be around for so damned long! ..|

Here's one ... "Life is a Journey! It's the trip, not the destination, that counts."

So ... you can pull out all the maps, read all the brochures, do in depth research, talk to those who have been there/done that, and, yet, you still won't know what it's Really like until you've made the trip yourself!

Also ... "If you get discouraged along the road, keep going, and the scenery will change."

"Only hindsight is 20/20."

"Trying to see the Future is like looking through a dense fog."

And, one of my favorites ... "Don't take Life too seriously! None of us are going to survive it anyway!"

So ... of course ... no matter what ...
