cocktail = $30,
less than half glass of red wine = $15 ?

And Discuss.

No chance, what establishment charges these prices Telly ?

As a rule, no, for a novelty in some place I would only go once and that was the choice or no drink at all, I might once.

maybe, depends. I have spent on overpriced drinks if I have the extra cash or if I am at an event and have no choice unless I don't want to drink. which If I am at a special event, the ill be drinking and at the mercy of their prices.

Generally, even high-end cocktails in the United States top off around $15 or $16 ($21 Australian dollars.) I'd happily pay that price at good bars. I can't think of a $22 ($30 Australian dollars) cocktail offhand. Local prices are rising, though, so probably soon enough.

If the place is a 5 star restaurant --with an amazing chef--then maybe----if its a run of the mill bar or restaurant then hell NO.

I went to the Caribbean in Dec and stayed at the Ritz Carlton---fancy beach lounge chairs but still--you are just on the beach. Any mixed drink was 20 dollars---served in a Ritz-Carlton plastic cup---I thought that was bullshit.:##:

Uh, no. Most I ever spent on a drink (beer), was $4. That was back in '93 at a bar in the Castro District (San Francisco).

I believe a paid 30 Euros at Caffe' Florian in Piazza San Marco for an Aperol Spritz and potato chips on three occasions last May, looking out upon one of the most beautiful spaces in the world, with La Vie en Rose playing in the background. Cheap for the price.

Well, here in Mexico the prices aren't that high, but it depends.

I've heard mixed drinks like cocktail are priced high like that anyway ...

It depends upon the venue.

First, I'm not a drinker, so I'd never be motivated to spend on it for me, but I am an avid host, and I have given champagne as a birthday gift, and I'm sure I've paid dearly for wine when taking guests to dinner. I'm fine with that when the restaurant is nice. I'm not fine with jacked up prices that are based on captive audience pricing. I hate that.

Currencies go up and down. Couple of years back and the US dollar was at parity with the Australian. The wage hit feels about the same, dollar for dollar between the USA and places like Australia.

Only place I've spent up like that was in Japan, good times.

If it is a particularly advantageous social gathering then perhaps I would get one and nurse it.

Otherwise, rich or poor you aren't going to find many who will.

Depends on the wine quality but I wouldn't pay 15$ for half glass of any wine.

One time I bought a small bottle of tea at the train station and it costed me 3€, when the same brand is normally 60 cents refrigerated. Since then I swore I will always ask the price first if it's not on the price list and I'd rather die from thirst instead of DONATING money. Heck I can almost get a six pack of 2 liters for that price.

Because especially during summer they take advantage of the situation, and it's easy to see crazy prices even for some water.

Tourists watch out

I don't ever drink alcohol..so no..I wouldn't even pay 10 cents...

Sometimes I have a "thing" where I don't want to pay too low for something..like seafood. I don't want a bargain LOL..

I think the most expensive drink I ever served was a double top shelf liquor which probably would have come to maybe 10.00 at the time.

I drank that wine and it taste the same quality as a bottle of red wine cost about $10 per bottle

Gernerally not....but it would depend on the wine.

If I go to a grocery/convenience store and buy a 20oz bottle of pop (soda), they cost close to $2 after tax is added. If I go to the Dollar Store and buy the same bottle, it's $1.09 after tax is added. One hell of a markup at the other stores.
