The pushback is intense.
Not everyone...in fact almost no one....is on board with this.
This is the most important moment in the gun debate since Sandy Hook. If the US rolls over and allows the militarization of its schools and turning them into hardened prisons for learning, America is dead. In that very moment. Because growing up and learning under this model will make them completely comfortable with state military oversight everywhere.
The very thing that all these right wing guns nuts are claiming that they need to have an arsenal for will be the very substance of their lives....a full military state under an authoritarian federal government.
I know I'm not supposed to say this because [STRIKE]this country is still racist as fuck[/STRIKE] it's not politically correct but I'm concerned for black youth who are already subject to state-sanctioned murder from police and overzealous neighborhood watchmen, what happens when a teacher has an incident with a student and "has" to use their gun because "they fear for their life"? I know I know, "Why we always gotta make it about race?"
When I hear this, all I hear is one more person in authority who will have every right under the law (again, supported by public opinion) to shoot Raekwon because he had a bad attitude or he bucked at a teacher.
And as we saw in Vegas, once the public becomes ok with state-sanctioned murder of brown people it won't be too long until the rest of the population is susceptible to a hail of bullets from an authority figure who won't spent 15 seconds jail.
